It's always good to remind everyone that Chelsea played city twice before the CL final. On the first game, city played with 2 DMs -> lost. Then city played 1 DM -> lost. In the final guardiola played no DMs -> lost. Guardioa had no answer to this Chelsea side and to Tuchel mastermind

This is out of context. Pep's usual midfield consists of 1DM, and 2 CMs (in which Bernardo has a key role) He didn't use this midfield trio in any of the 3 games you mentioned. I agree with the last part though.

CDM might not massively impacted City's game, but this doesn't tell the whole story. City didn't play their usual midfield in any of the 3 games, two CDM's was the reason they had less goals than Brighton until January, and playing with ONE midfielder in the 2nd game was the weirdest thing Pep has done this season imo

They are not very mutually comparable iirc: Different tournaments, different players eg timing/resting, different priorities/objectives etc. The "Whatever formation City used was going to lose because..." argument is not very informative either. In fact it's more useful to consider what City's best formation and selection IS and then consider how that might have impacted instead: Because what Pep did do was atrocious and allowed Chelsea to excel - in addition to already being a consumate team. Kante destroying in the press and Jorginho play-making, meant Chelsea could destroy City build up and start their own successfully. Equally Guardiola ALWAYS underestimates the requirements of Defence in big games to fit his pet philosophy of ball-players everywhere. Aguero not playing... nuts.

Fernandinho, Walker and definitely Aguero wouldn't win the CL again in city, Fernandinho and Walker wouldn't, most probably as teams are getting better and when they had their best chance last season just after winning the PL convincingly and fucked it up, I don't think he'll ever win it with City.

Good analysis. My view is that people thinking that Chelsea's win was due to absence of CDM is lazy. Man City were threatening all throughout the match and it was the best defensive performance by defenders and midfielders that effectively nullified city's attack. James, chilwell, Christensen, azpi, kante, rudiger, made top defensive saves which was extremely important. Still it was one of the most entertaining game of the year. From both side. As a chelsea fan I hope we win this season too. KTBFFH!

Don't forget the last game of last season where Rodri was burned for another loss.
This is what i call quality content
Chelsea does not play a CAM. Mount and Havertz started wide so I guess Pep thought a central defensive midfielder was not required. He would not have someone to mark. The wingers could be dealt by the fullbacks and CBs. Especially since Sterling and Mahrez playing wide were blocking their attack. This comes to show why the CDM is so important. Even he does have someone to follow, you should have one as he operates as an emergency wheel and covers his teammates when they miss an opponent. In a perfect game this wheel would not be needed of course, but..
Quality content 💯💯

What. Mate you’re too good, glad to found you before you blow up
Here's a summary of what Pep's thinking... Played Rodri at Cdm = Lost Played Fernandinho = Lost Now what else he can do or thought, let's go with no Cdm at all. No Cdm still = Lost So in conclusion it's not Pep that overthought, it's Tuchel and his masterplan that titled Pep like that.
Ngl when i watched the line up i was scared knowing that pep wwas going full on attack but our lineup was solid so i wasn't worried
I honestly feel man city played a very good squad....sometimes you win sometimes you lose painfully.....but that's football and that's life
“It was like I was in a tunnel. Not only the tunnel under the hotel but the whole circuit was a tunnel. I was just going and going, more and more and more and more” ~ Senna. After he crashed at Monaco. Pushing his car to go faster and faster whilst sitting comfortably in 1st, a full lap ahead of 2nd place, Alain Prost. Prost later claimed, "he never wanted to beat me, he wanted to humiliate me”. Pep is the best, as Senna was. I just think sometimes he can get caught up in his own tunnel, and wind up spinning into the barriers of reality. Play the bloody CDM.
You deserve to be famous
Fernandinho was about to be redcarded because of the some play and latter on substituted . otherwise repeating that it could have been worse so Pepe was right it's just that it didn't work and they need to more because if Chelsea manage to get a world class striker it will take some time for man city to win them.
Upload video on euro Manger tactics
If city won this would have been the line "Pep played without a DM. Had all six attacking players in the pitch. What a tactical masterclass from Pep Guardiola." Give Tuchel the credit he deserves. He's Toocool.

The past encounters between Man City vs Chelsea in that season prompted Guardiola that they were playing against 12 men whenever Chelsea fielded Kante. They had to go on the offensive and of course possession, taking charge of every action of that game. To Guardiola, the only way to do that is to kill the game early by bombarding Chelsea with attacks. Obviously it didn’t work out as Chelsea was organised behind the lines with veterans Azpi and Thiago Silva organising the back. The downfall of this in my opinion is that City had too many similar players with no specialist they could rely on. They did not had a contingency plan to stop Chelsea’s counter Attack. Only a plan to keep hold of ball possession. The only 3 specialist they had were Aguero, KDB and Fernandinho. Guardiola left 2 on the bench and fielded KDB as a false 9. It is a lot of mistakes to begin with, and they were lucky that the scoreline was just 1-0. Anyway great analysis and great content! Keep it up!

I did not get what you said on having fernandinho compared to gindogan. On what causes the goal
@FootballMeta
3 жыл бұрын
Essentially I think for the goal gundogan was caught too far on the right, ready to press kante if the ball moved out wide to the right, but with Chelsea quickly moving the ball to the left, gundogan didn't have time to cover the center, leaving it exposed for mount to pick a pass. But with fernandinho I think he would've been in a more central position and could have (potentially) been closer to mount to stop the ball into havertz
I’m a city fan and I knew we were gonna lose to Chelsea. Tuchel pressed us recognizing that our offensive style is predicated on passing and building from the back. Only way we were going to win was if we played like we did in the 2nd leg against psg, where we counter attacked everything and sat back, disallowing strikers to make open forward runs. This is why city are signing Graelish, because they need someone to create something out of nothing and no one other than maybe mahrez can do that on the squad
A video of Scotland Dominating England in the 0-0 draw would be great.

Dominant? 0-0😂
MC lost because they messed around with the ball in the offensive 1/3 instead of shooting! Shoot the ball! Especially from dead center at the 22. Why pass? Shoot, shoot, shoot.
I don't disagree not having a dcm was a mistake. Possession is a form of defence. Tuchels counter team is not your ordinary team. I do disagree starting sterling and playing de bruyne so high. Aguero should of start.
You people talk too much . The 4-3-1-2 is a formation that doesn't not require a CDM . Chelsea players were just passionate to win that is all. Pep tried to exploit the spaces between the wing backs and the righ and left centre back, which could have worked if sterling had scored the first goal after getting the better of Reece James first half . Pep's tactical approach was brilliant . Teuchel just told James and chill well to close in on mahrez and sterling , which was tactically brilliant , that is all . People should stop whining that pep didn't play cdm. Chelsea beat man city 3 times with 2 cdm's .1 cdm and no cdm . It's a pathetic excuse from people
There was no way city were gonna beat chelsea...they were unstoppable that season
Might be irrelevant but I appreciate that you know that wingbacks are midfielders. People call them defenders and this pisses me off.
@suckyurmum4646

It often depends on the formation they’re playing and the role they play in the team, but yeh if they’re attacking they’re technically midfielders
City starting no midfielders that actually defend was a joke and disrespected Chelsea. Pep gave them game away asking gundogan and foden to press in the midfield
Chelsea beat city with cdm 3 games in a row
I think you should do a video on what to expect from England in the Euros.
The problem was having Gundogan pinned back when he was the the main goalscorer in the season
Leta see new season how tuchel plays PEP
I think the previous two losses in PL and FA cup semi final against Chelsea urged Pep Guardiola to overthink. Similarly, in one of those two matches pep even started with both Rodri and Fernandinho but still lost. Maybe he wants to surprise Tuchel and go with something new but his plan backfired. In my opinion Pep should've gone with the XI which he played against PSG. The game gone into Penalties would've been better option for City than lost the game with regrets and not playing their best XI.
Yeah totally wrong game to try new tactics; Chelsea already won Man City (2 times or 3?) before UCL-final. (Maybe this is the reason why Pep changed tactics? Maybe stronger defense instead would've been better option?) Idk why tf Pep tried it.. 20/21 season Manchester City pretty much dominated every game possessionwise and created more goal scoring changes than opposite. (Even then when they lost the game) Chelsea also is very dangerous at counter attacks. In that sense those changes just looks ridiculous. E. Subbed!
KDB's absence was the main problem... otherwise things get better I guess... Overall that season was a masterpiece from Pep... winning PL, EFL Cup, UCL finalists that's a great thing as a City fan.

@@FootballMeta Good point But still won't do anything vs TuChelsea. I'm not sure how much better a 19 year old Foden would do vs a resolute Chelsea defense. And playing with a CDM doesn't necessarily neutralize Chelsea offensively cos neither DMs are agile enough to catch up with Chelsea's counter attacking transitions. Look at the chance created between Kante - Pulisic - Kai - Pulisic. Pulisic should have confirmed that IMO.
Can Pep just lose UCL matches for once with his strongest 11. I mean seriously! It frustrate me the most as a city fan. Just trust your players than going for counter approach of what the opponent have to offer. I think pep was a genius in that game. But Kante was the big problem for them
Just noticed a lot of people pronounce it as “Two-shul.” And “Gun-Duh-gun”?
He emphasized on his weakness's not his strength.
What is the big deal...we played them in the FA cup semi final and the league with CDM but end up on the loosing end. What is the big deal if he tried no CDM in the final? . Pep did some weird things becuz of Tuchel system....he played 3 3 3 1 formation in the 2-1 defeat lol lol just to stop Tuchel build up play. He tried ...but he would have fail even if Fernandinhno played. Why can't we give Chelsea the credit for winning the CL, everywhere I see its the same thing pep made a tactical error,pep did this pep did that. Why can't we agree that Chelsea was the better team, Chelsea won that's the end of the debate we don't need another video explaining why or if pep made a mistake instead how about a video of Tuchel being a genius and outplaying pep not just once but three times.
No cdm and natural 9 I knew he was clapped
meh, if City won the final, there will be little-to-no ppl will care that City didn't play with CDM anyway, just like how Spain won Euro 2012, Most of the minutes played, Spain didn't even bother using pure striker
The fact that he played de bruyne up front should have been covered, we saw him drop back to make his usual world class passes, and by doing so, city was completely striker less, giving sterling and mahrez no one to cross to
@rickynetogoat5769
2 жыл бұрын
Sorry but you're way wrong on this. De bruyne is playing as a false 9 and he dissapeared that game because of kantes master class. Sterling and Mahrez arent crossing wingers they play more like inside wingers and mostly like the main attacking threats in peps system so in reality city was kinda playkng a 4-3-1-2 as the 2 wingers we're supposed to cut inside and make those runs in behind off the shoulder of the defender. Citys goal is never to cross the ball and if it was why would you play a right footed player on the left hand side and play Mahrez (left footed) on the right? That de bruyne false 9 brought a lot of success to city
