What to Make of Charles Cross

In today's film breakdown, we look at Charles Cross - the Seahawks left tackle entering his third year. He has had plenty of ups and downs and has actually outperformed the other top 10 tackles that he shared a draft class with, but he certainly hasn't fully developed into a franchise-caliber left tackle.

    Loved this video. Improvement in OLine (and your video out our defense learning how to stop the run) will be the keys to an improved season imo. Also still really nervous about Tomlinson, Olu, and Bradford working together. The OLine coach has his hands full for sure. Go Hawks!

    Thanks for the kind words! I am curious about how the interior offensive line will shake out. I think that Christian Haynes is almost certainly going to start at Right Guard so I’d probably say it’s going to be Tomlinson and Haynes. Still a shaky group but I think the depth is pretty decent for a change and I have faith that it will be fine. Getting Cross and Lucas to be strengths at tackle will be more of the challenge. Thanks for watching!

    Cross was thrown to the wolves from his first games when he had to match up with some of the best DEs in the league. He did well, and we were all looking forward to him taking the next steps, except he didn't. We lost Cross and Lucas to injuries for a long enough time that most teams would be considering replacing both tackles.

    I think you have to give each of them this year but yeah if things don’t go well you are going to have to start thinking about replacing them. Last year was mostly just a mix of unlucky and a lack of steps forward but hopefully this year can be their breakout.

    Thank you! I've added Abe to my list. If you want a spoiler, he was really bad last year, even once he got "healthy." I'm hoping that it is just the fact that his knee was bothering him still and he didn't have his full power but if he plays that poorly again we might see George Fant sooner rather than later. But I'd probably focus on his 2022 tape because from what I've seen of that he was pretty great. Thanks for the suggestion!

    He isn't a bust. But the best i thought he would ever be is an above average pass blocker. He will be great for the hawks in the regular season in favourable match ups. But If they want a guy who will be able to shut down premier pass rushers in the playoffs he won't be the guy.

    Cross's anchor is in constant peril even when he wins. And he's on the wrong side of the ledger, at year's end. NFL defenses know this and will continue to bullrush him. By career end, he may find that playing in a smaller space (guard) is his true NFL position. The Seahawks need to figure this out. Staying healthy for an entire season wouldn't hurt either. Good luck Charles!

  • @The_Legion_of_12s

    @The_Legion_of_12s

    Staying healthy is certainly a must. I will say I don’t think that moving to guard would work for him. There he’d have to face even bigger and stronger guys. I think with his movement skills and better coaching he has a much better chance to figure it out at tackle so idk if guard would make sense. Hoping for the best for him this year!

    @@The_Legion_of_12s You make a great point, but drafted 9th means the Hawks need to develop him at tackle or find a new position. I see it this way, he'll be in the weight room either at tackle or guard, so he's going to get bigger. So, play in space or shrink the space? Seattle has to consider all possible options here or concede the pick as a bust. And you know Schneider won't let that happen. 🤔

    I can almost say that I regret us using a 1st rd pick on this guy. He was supposed to be at least a top OT by now. He should be a pro bowler by now. HE’s NOT THAT. This guy is a bust. IF he was a 3rd or 4th rd pick I could rationalize him underperforming. But he’s a 1st rd pick! This year is the year we see what we have. He’s either an average OT or he’s what we envisioned him to be, a dominant OT.

    Dude, just wait and see what the hell happens. He's got a new OC, new Oline coach. You have no idea what is going to happen this season. AT LEAST wait for pre-season. I really hate all the takes based on the previous staff's production. This is the offseason where you don't know isht until you see what changes this staff brings. I.e., it's empty speculation.
