I think Seattle is talented and deep on both sides of the ball. On defense the biggest question mark is the LBs and how quick the players will pick up the scheme. We should have a strong DL and the DBs gotta be one of the deepest positions on the team with all types of players that can matchup to different offensive Playstyles. On offense the big question mark is going to be OL and how well players can adjust to the new scheme that grub is bringing. They have the peices to be a really good team if the team chemistry is there year 1 of the new regime.

@@The_Legion_of_12s I personally think the safety position is very deep. We have Love and Jenkins who can play either spot which gives us big time versatility and the ability to disguise looks because you never know what the safeties are going to do and they can be interchanged on any given down. Behind them you have Cobe Bryant who like love can play some nickel or even outside CB and has shown himself to be a very versatile player with great physicality and a lot of upside as a cover guy. Kvon Wallace is a guy who also brings plenty of experience and versatility to the team and graded out pretty well in coverage. Then you round out the group with last year's rookie Jerrick Reed who is the biggest unknown but definitely has upside and showed at the least he will be a special teams contributor. To me it's a super solid group, 4 guys with plenty of starting experience in the league, lots of versatility that McDonald will be able to use as he sees fit to matchup with opposing offenses from week to week. The LBs definitely gave potential but they are the most unproven group of the defense and depth is a concern considering the 2 projected starters will be coming off of injury and have yet to participate in team activities.

You could absolutely be right. I would say that Macdonald has a bunch of advantages that those other coaches didn't really have. Firstly, Seattle already has a great culture and a great GM which makes Seattle one of the better landing spots for a head coach in a long while. And also, his scheme is obviously wildly respected as there are now 4 DCs in the league who worked under him - all getting hired this year. So I think his situation is special and his scheme is special so that's why I have more faith in him - but we'll have to see. :)

Taking Jimmy G to the Super Bowl probably is still one of the greatest coaching achievements of this decade. He is an excellent coach and really his only rival is McVay. Nah it was the Ravens players that tipped those passes. Wasn't cuz they got lucky. Ravens have a great defense roster, that's just good players making plays. Hamilton picked 1 in the end zone, Stephens tipped another, Humphrey blocked another & Hamilton picked that one off too. Williams is a top 10 safety and picked off another end zone pass at the end of the 4th. The only 1 that was mildly lucky was the one Humphrey blocked. Lamar & their offense dropped 33 on an elite 9ers defense without their best RB, with a mediocre WR room, with a 1st year OC, and without Andrews. Give the Ravens credit, they have 1 of the NFL's best defense rosters and dominated an elite 9ers offense that went to a Super Bowl.

The kid's ability to adjust and grow after every game is also extraordinary. That ability allows him to make throws including the one to BA between 4 defenders where Purdy threw to a spot that wasn't a part of BA's route (basically throwing him open) in the same game against the seahawks that you show in this video.

  • @The_Legion_of_12s

I'm not going to deny that Purdy has tons of highlight throws with great anticipation and accuracy over the middle. But I think that where you attribute that to Purdy you could just as easily give all of the credit to Shannahan for designing his WRs open and telling Purdy exactly where to put the ball. I guess we won't know until these two are separated but I am of the opinion that it really isn't processing but is just putting the ball where Shanahan said it would be on time. What Purdy does bring is his elite play making and improv abilities where he is able to be productive even when the play breaks down and is (usually) safe with the ball. I disagree with the "that wasn't part of BA's route". If you know when that was I would love to go watch the film of it but I think most of the credit should go to the best offensive mind in the game. Again I could be wrong but we simply don't have the answer to who should get most of the credit for this produciton. Obviously it is split - I just think we split it differently. Don't get me wrong the marriage of Purdy and Shanahan is special - but with Shanahan's track record going back to Washington of getting MVP level play out of RG3, Matt Ryan, Jimmy Garopolo and now Brock Purdy, I am hesitant to say that this is something special about Brock. He is productive but Shanahan has always been productive. I would love to see them separated so we could really answer this question but I think the real threat in San Fran is Shanahan more that Brock. If Purdy was a top 10 QB San fran would have taken the Lombardi this year because their roster was miles better than KC. Thanks for your comment and I can't wait to play your 49ers next year because these matchups are going to be so fun!

Seattle has better DL & edge depth than the '23 Ravens, but there's also a massive dropoff between their LB & safeties. MM's whole scheme relies on those 2 positions for the disguises, there's a pretty big gap from Roquan/Williams/Hamilton and Dodson/Baker/whatever LB is currently healthy + Love/whoever's at safety. Ravens have a top ILB + the best safety, that makes a big difference. Hawks will be better but the roster isn't there quite yet. '24 will def look better but Hawks need better LBs & safeties to really maximize MM's scheme.

@@The_Legion_of_12s How many teams really have an elite defensive roster besides the 9ers though? Ravens had a pro bowl DT, a top nose tackle, 3x pro bowl corner, the best safety, a top 1-3 ILB plus a lot of good depth. MM took a top defense to #1, but they were already top 5-10 before him. That's an elite roster. They also had Calais in '22, he's a future HOFer. Clowney sucked in Seattle, but he was always a good player- 3x Pro Bowler, #1 overall pick. Talent was always there, his problem was work ethic & injuries. MM always had a good roster on the Ravens, they always dump all their resources into defense. That's why they were top 5 in 2020 and top 10 in a bunch of other metrics before MM. Pro Bowls aren't a great metric of overall roster talent, a lot of great players get snubbed when they have the talent to make a Pro Bowl. Queen made a PB in '23, but that was cuz of Roquan. Queen's just a worse version of Brooks that got carried by a great team around him. Armstead & Greenlaw are hugely important to the 9ers defense but neither's ever made a Pro Bowl. 9ers were noticeably worse in the SB once Greenlaw got hurt, but he's not a PBer. Greg Newsome's never made a Pro Bowl, but most people would agree the Browns had 1 of the best CB duos. Bengals lost both safeties this year & their defense nosedived, it does matter. I do agree they're generally less important positions, but for MM's scheme they do matter a lot. Even with MM, Ravens' defense improved a lot after they got Roquan. I do agree on some stuff, but you have to look at the NFL as a whole- most teams don't have a ton of defense stars on the roster. It's not about big contracts. Elite rosters are about good depth, not just Pro Bowls. Good defenses have a lot of good players, not just top-heavy rosters that rely on 1 player to function. Steelers are a great example- they have Heyward + Watt, but their defense still sucked cuz they had bad LBs + bad corners. But if TJ Watt's out, Steelers lose a ton of games- they're 1-10 if he's out. Elite rosters are about overall depth, not just accolades.

9ers will keep Purdy no matter what imo. They're in win-now mode and can't afford to waste the last couple years of their window. Purdy's average but has proven he can take them to a Super Bowl. Plus the last time the 9ers drafted a QB before Purdy was the Trey Lance fiasco, which was a disaster. They'll either have to way overpay Purdy and lose players, or they go on the QB carousel and risk becoming like a better version of the Broncos- talented roster, but won't go anywhere without a QB. Either scenario is a win-win for me lol

Ravens got lucky with some tipped INTS.. But the 49ers made it to the Superbowl tho...😂😂😂

It’s not just the picks tho. In the footage I purposefully only broke down one of the picks. Sure some of them were lucky but that offense got shut down notwithstanding the 5 INTS.

@The_Legion_of_12s The 49ers offense did not get shut down... TE Kittle had 126 receiving yards, WR Aiyuk had 113 receiving yards, and RB CMC had 103 rushing yards. The 49ers had more passing yards, rushing yards, and yards per play. Ravens got lucky with those tipped INTS and the 49ers penalties which resulted in 103 yards.

A lot of that came in garbage time. End of the day the ravens forced punts, got a fourth down stop and not all of those picks can be explained away as lucky. Excited for the hawks to play the 49ers next year!
