Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

See all my family members and anyone I talk to about my bunnies, make fun of me for being so strict with my bunnies diet and everything I give them. I’m always making sure it’s fresh or high quality or just healthy for them. Everyone always says I’m being a helicopter bunny mom and being too picky about what they eat and the hay they use. In reality I’m just caring for them and want to make sure they’re happy and healthy and don’t get sick!!

O my gosh my family does that to me too! It's so annoying 😒 you know if someone was like that with a dog or cat nobody would say anything.... That goes to show you people treat rabbits like chop liver...☹️

@@Kopiii123 honestly if anything I’d be more concerned about my bunnies food intake than my dogs or cats bc it’s a lot more dangerous for bunnies if they are not fed the appropriate diet. Sometimes with my dog we’d give him treats and human food off our plates but bc of GI statis it is very important that rabbits are fed exactly what their bodies need no more or else so good for you.

Horse and bunny person here! What you want to ask for at the farm store is 2nd cut hay! 2nd cut is generally the most expensive, highest quality baled hay. Good 2nd cut will be green, fragrant, full of soft grass, not sticks, straw, leaves, or plants. It depends where you live the "type" of hay that will be in your bale (timothy, orchard grass, ect.) Where I live in New England almost any 2nd cut will mostly consist of timothy hay. When you get over to California you might run into more alfalfa, because it grows better there and therefore is cheaper and more wide spread. Make sure your bale of hay is not hard packed or excessively dusty, both of those are indicators of a possibly moldy bale. Just thought I'd share what I know, hope it helps someone!

They're actually working on a vaccine to help with pet allergies. It might not be for everyone but it's a great idea. The first week I had my rabbit I thought I was gonna die from the the hay and the "new pet" allergies I always get when I adopt a new animal. That and I'd rescued a new cat. A week or 2 later I was fine. Weird but that's how it always goes for me. I'll happily tolerate it though. Love wins out!

I think you forgot that young rabbits need alfalfa to help them grow. Thats why "young rabbit" pellets are made. They have higher protien to help them grow. Like i have goats, cows and horses along with my house buns. Young animals need higher protien feeds for energy and nutrients for growth.

@@nevaehvlogs5899 it's highly recommended. Alfalfa when they are young allows them to build strong bones and joints when they are young. It also helps prevent arthritis when they are older. Alfalfa has more protein and calcium and actually has less sugar than Timothy or orchard. It's why I can feed it to my horse who has equine metabolic syndrome. She has to eat soaked hay but I can give her alfalfa without soaking it. Sugar can cause her to have a laminitus flare up.

I also hand-feed a small amount of pellets and it has been amazing for bonding with my bunnies. My male has always been friendly but my female was rescued from an animal shelter and originally came from a hoarding situation, so she was much more nervous and scared. Handing feeding pellets (since the bunnies LOVE them) has really helped her to become a lot more social and friendly) and helped us bond with her. I guess treats would work the same way, but you would need to cut them up into VERY TINY pieces to allow for the same "bonding time" I get from hand-feeding just 1/8 cup of pellets.

That’s the same thing most vets say about dog kibble, and we know it’s just not true. I strongly believe animals need a natural diet and that processed food are the easiest option for us, but not the best for them. That’s just my opinion, ok? I’m not a veterinarian and I’m sure you know what’s best for your own animals!

  • @littlekitsune1

    @littlekitsune1

    2 жыл бұрын

@@incanusolorin2607 It's honestly pretty case-by-case, imo. Like my cat had gross fur when she was on a raw diet, but now she's silky smooth with high quality (I use Orijen) kibble. I'm not sure why a more natural diet didn't agree with her, but it was the case for her. But I think it's important to also remember that domestic animals of any kind are not wild. What's "natural" for them by this point can be completely different than that of a wild species. In fact, that's usually the reason they live so much longer with us than in the wild. The most important thing is to do your research and find out what works for your specific animal.

my rabbit is super active and when i started cutting out pellets he lost 10% of his body weight really quickly. he gets pellets still but about half of the "recommended" amount. he still gets a big handful of greens twice/day plus a small sugary treat each meal (carrot, blackberry, strawberry, bell pepper, etc.) plus a hay-based treat or two for crunchiness. He's been maintaining a healthy weight for almost a year now. i think i have a weird rabbit though because NOTHING seems to phase his gut. He got into a plate of cookies and chocolate (he broke out of his enclosure when we were retraining him for a litterbox) and he was completely fine. he eats soooo much and then burns up all his energy sprinting around the house and up and down the stairs.

I got a plastic kiddie pool and filled it with soil and planted lots of different plants they love. Wheatgrass, dayflowers, cilantro, mint, lettuce mix and more stuff that I can't remember the English name for. They also have access to several water and pellet containers.

my rabbits is 4lbs exactly. His diet consists of unlimited high quality 2nd cut Timothy hay, 1 cup of mixed leafy greens in the morning, a small chunk of banana/apple or a couple blueberries in the afternoon, and then another cup of veggies at night. This^^ is a great possible diet for people curios on the basics of feeding their rabbit. Great video Hayley!!

That's really helpful about the cecotropes... I have noticed my female does not eat the cecotropes a lot of the time. I am doing veggies and dark leafy greens along with a scoop of what she's been familiar with from her other owner, which is she loves the "gourmet" pellets with dried fruit and these gummy things. Its basically supplemental... I think its sort of like formula for infants, like it's way more nutrients because it cannot be absorbed the same way and perhaps it has detriments but at the same time it might become a "necessity" under certain circumstances if there is no other option or education or both.

I use a stainless steel dog dish with a rubbered base so there is no problems with the bunny spilling it. It's called Sunbleached on the grass. I have one staple veggie they always get and change the other two out regularly.

Hi there, I just wanted to mention my water supply for my rabbits. They are a bit more expensive, but I use a Drinkwell Ceramic Pagoda water fountain for my rabbits. It's heavy, rectangular and provides fresh, filtered water for the bun-buns at all times - really worth the extra cost. The replacement filters are inexpensive and provided you don't drop them, the fountains last forever. The rabbits love them, and tend to drink from the falling water flow.

Your hay feeders are very cool. Also I get what you're saying about hay cubes but here's the thing, what's the lesser of two evils? Someone who's allergic to hay feeding hay cubes or yet another rabbit having to go to a shelter because their human couldn't get their allergies under control. Dental issues will be something to keep an eye out for but they're manageable and not the end of the world. I'd rather find ways to help people keep their bunnies in their home than say "oh you shouldn't have the rabbit" and then that rabbit ends up in an already over crowded shelter. Just something to think about. Great video btw. Also to other viewers I understand many of you with allergies have figured out ways to control them. That's awesome but there's going to be someone out there who can't get a handle on it. Maybe they've got some other issues that made a medication not work for them like they have to be on a med for an unrelated issue that doesn't react well with other meds. We should always strive for ideal situations but I believe we also should be showing people how to make things work in a less than ideal situation. Of course that's a personal opinion.

Thankyou so much for this video! I had no idea why my rabbits were not eating there cecotropes. (don’t know if I spell that right) It would get so Disgusting in there cage because they would smash them into the floor 🤢. But now I know why. I knew it had to do something with lettuce and pellets because whenever I would give them boath at the same time then they would have issues. So now we are going to try just lettuce. Hopefully this is better!
