What to Expect in a Hiatal Hernia C&P Exam | VA Disability

In this video Leah explains the intricacies of a hiatal hernia and the associated VA disability compensation and pension (C&P) exam. She defines a hiatal hernia as a condition where the upper part of the stomach bulges through the diaphragm into the chest, potentially leading to symptoms like acid reflux, heartburn, and chest pain, particularly when it's large. She discusses how hiatal hernias can be connected to military service, either diagnosed during service or as a secondary condition exacerbated by service-related factors like obesity. Leah outlines the VA's rating system for hiatal hernia, with ratings based on the severity of symptoms like pain, vomiting, and weight loss. She then walks through the C&P exam process, detailing the Disability Benefits Questionnaire (DBQ) used by examiners to assess the condition, including medical history, symptoms, and the impact on the veteran's life.

Unfortunately, my 1 inch hiatal hernia raises my blood pressure, which caused a stroke, because the medication didn’t work. Horrible disease.

I am currently rated at 10%, but it definitely impacts my health considerably, so I'm trying to get it raised to 30% - any ideas? Does your company have success with submitting DBQs in this situaion?

Well that is a great question. If you need help with the filling process you may want to seek assistance with your local VSO or another legal professional

So if I get a DBQ from a doctor does that mean no C&P is required?

Not necessarily. The VA reserves the right to request an exam

I have an EKG coming up. I plan on filing a claim secondary to pain in my knees which they gave me meloxicam for. Is this a good route to take
