What to Expect in a C&P Exam for Heart Conditions | VA Disability

In this video Leah shares insights on what to expect during a Compensation and Pension (C&P) exam for heart or cardiac conditions for VA disability claims. She emphasizes that understanding the process can alleviate anxieties veterans may have. Information about the exam is available on the VA website, where veterans can download the Disability Benefit Questionnaire to review or have filled out by their doctor, potentially aiding their VA claim. Leah highlights that the exam can assess heart conditions on a primary or secondary basis, including conditions caused or aggravated by service. The process involves receiving a packet with details about the provider conducting the evaluation, which could be a variety of healthcare professionals, not necessarily a cardiologist.

As an 11 bravo serving in two of her former units (82d and 101st) I can tell you how appreciative I am of her very informative videos for which I have subscribed to a long time ago ..very useful and on point with her knowledae of everything concerning veteran disability the only real problem I personally have is having to watch each video at least 3 times because the first two times I don't have a clue what she is saying because I am lost in how gorgeous she is...not VA permanent and total but permanent and totally in love with how she looks

I learned that the METs levels determine whether a person has a disability. I have had heart problems for 30 years, starting with a widow maker that caused me to code twice. Since then, I have had more heart attacks or symptoms requiring numerous interventions with stents placed, Open heart surgery with a quadruple bypass, more need for stenting and a failure of the right main bypass. My latest heart attack occurred in January. After each heart attack or intervention, I was sent to Cardiac Rehab which is a heavy workout that enables the heart to recuperate, allowing one to raise the METs to a normal level. I am currently completing my last week of exercise since my attack in January. I push myself to work hard to be strong and I'm quite sure that the Mets test would not enable me to qualify for disability until my next need for a stent or bypass. They don't care that I have had numerous serious interventions over the years, that bypasses have a short life span and another event could take place at any time. Apparently, 30 years of interventions, stents and surgery don't count, only the MET test!!

Ty for this video. I had C&P exams in December and my conditions were deferred and I have to go for a second round of C&P exams in 10 days. A-Fib, hypertension, sleep apnea with CPAP and they added left ventricular hypertrophy, cardiomegaly and valvular heart disease. I am not sure if this is good or bad but not sure why they would defer and do more exams if they were planning on a denial but I hope it works out. Thankfully I live a reasonable distance from the QTC location.

Hi, I just wanted to update about the outcome of my claim. Hypertension, arrhythmia and left foot pes planus with plantar fasciitis were granted bringing me from 79% to 91%. They didn't grant sleep apnea however now it is a recognized condition so maybe I can still get it granted with a supplemental claim. Thanks again for all of the great information. Building my 3rd claim now which hopefully will bring me up to 100%.

I just had my C&P exam for heart conditions last weeks and only had my B/P and pulse taken. The examiner did not listen to my heart or lungs and we did not discuss the METs or anything at all. Did ask about what testing I have or had. I have yearly echocardiograms which were scanned in with my claim but she couldn't find them. She did ask about medication that I take. Kind of frustrating, but if I am denied for this claim, do I have recourse because she didn't go through the DBQ? Thank you

I am not sure about that. They do not have to do interview based METS if they have METS testing available in your records
