I got my Advanced Open Water in 2019. It has taken my diving to the next level. I did a deep dive, search and recovery, navigation, peak buoyancy, and a night dive. The best course I had ever taken in my diving career. I am also nitrox certified Since then, I have been on six dive trips and logged 118 dives so far and counting.

Good video. DMC here and loving the examples you show and set. I wish we had wrecks in Monterey to Dow Wreck as an option when I did AOW. The awesome night dives with the octopuses at Breakwater made up for it

I did: wreck, night and peak buoyancy even if I had perfect buoyancy already when I did OWD SSI, but it helps to refresh everything. I should really think about get my night dive certification with you, because if a instructor love something, it's much more funny, secoundly you learn much more. ☺️

OW diver. I’ve got navigation and SDI computer nitrox certs. Doing my deep diver specialty next weekend, finishing dives for limited vis/night and currently working through TDI nitrox e-learning. Next steps are search and recovery, rescue diver, working through to solo and DM, and eventually technical diving. Looooong way to go from where I’m at. Should have the advanced diver cert after finishing the deep and limited vis certifications if I understand SDI correctly

Good video!...I'm an OWD. I'm planning to take my AOWD soon... my plan is to work my way up to Dive Master... stay there for awhile to gain some experience then to OWI... That's the plan anyway. 🙂

I certified as an Open Water diver. I considered doing the AOW but other much more experienced divers said don't bother just dive with someone more experienced. Save your money.

I wouldn't agree but to each their own! Plus, without the certificate dive operations shouldn't allow you to go beyond 60ft. A lot of cool stuff beyond that point.

@@FullySubmerged who needs a dive centre. Anyway there is plenty above 18 mtrs. My wife has been an AOW diver for the last 10 years. She has only ever gone below OW depth once and that was by accident. You use your air a lt quicker the deeper you go so what's the point.

Do I get 5 PADI specialty certificates upon finishing the Advanced Open Water course?

  • @FullySubmerged

No, 5 specialty certs is called Master Diver with PADI. Not to be mistaken with Divemaster, which is the first level of professional diver.

@@barrywilson3811 No worries. It's a question I get a lot. I just don't personally chose to give out that information. I'm not that close to Michigan but your lessons shouldn't take that long. If you're not long done before your trip I'd be surprised.

That's the problem I drive a truck cross country and my wife stays home and takes care of her parents so my time home limited and the cold weather will be moving in shortly. Kevin at the dive shop in flint said he could send me and my wife with a referral to the Bahamas to get our certified I'm not comfortabl with that we have family in sunny isle's by Miami looking to get certified that way if we have too any suggests would be great

  • @FullySubmerged

As long as you find a reputable shop and instructor then a referral is actually a great option. It's usually way easier to do your open water dives in the ocean than in the cold dark murky waters of the Midwest anyway.

Owd in 2004. Broke all the rules for the next several yrs ! Dove all over Thailand and the Andaman Sea. Ha Long Bay in Vietnam and countless places in The Philippines. That lasted until late 2019. GET YOUR SIGNATURES ! LOG YOUR DIVES ! JUST DO IT ! YOULL REGRET NOT DOING IT. You can "buy experience" from the right instructor but I promise it's expensive ! AOW and DD is only mandatory in US ... (in my experience). One final thought .... if you can travel to dive ..... DO IT !
