I had a mastectomy last Monday 13 Feb with no lymph node surgery. I’ve gone flat. It is mire painful than .I expected, it feels as though my chest is being ironed at the highest temperature. I’ve been told this is due to nerve damage. It really does take my breath away when the heat pain strikes.

Hi Dr Tasha - I just stumbled on your podcast. I just had a mastectomy last month though i belive I could have opted for a lumpectomy instead. My surgeon is fantastic - incision looks good. I'm now struggling with seroma! Biopsy result showed the specimen consists of 4 cores of tissue measuring 0.9 cm to 1.6 cm. MRI result was "...core measures approximately 24 (CC) x 23 (L-R) x 20 (AP) mm. The spiculations, which are seen as areas of faint non-mass enhancement, together with the mass, cover an area that measures approximately 56 mm (CC) x 23 (L-R) x 40 (Se 815/61, 815/68). The spiculations extend approximately 1 cm superior and approximately 28 mm inferior to the central core." The post op lab result showed the size of the invasive tumor is 13 mm in maximum dimension. The whole size of the tumor (Invasive & DCIS) is 26 mm in maximum dimension. I'm really disappointed to note the vast difference as i may not need to opt for Mastectomy. Imagine if I had opted for a reconstruction which wasn't necessary at all.

Thank you for this video. I had a double mastectomy and lymph nodes dissection in the right side. I initially had numbness underneath my arm but now after 3 month the numbness seems to progress around my upper arm and side of what use to be my breast. Not sure if this is the beginning of lymphedema of something else

If the cancer is already stage IV (large tumors, lymph node infection and other organs with tumors) at the time the doctors confirm Cancer, is there any point to removal of the breasts?

Does “phantom pain” exist after mastectomy? Like a limb amputation? Will the “breast” itch or anything?

I've had terrible nerve pain due to the sentinel node biopsy & the drain. I think it was resting on at least one nerve: but it felt more like 10.

@drtashag I've had searing pain. At one point, I got stuck on the bed, and even my husband's movements were agony for me. It was 2:30 am, we didn't know what to do, so we called an ambulance. Nobody warned me how painful it would be. I later found out that the drain was probably sitting on a nerve. I still have shooting pains & wound seepage almost three weeks on.
