@Tridhos I'm sure with 2,500 guests there were a handful of them. Not as many as today. I wasn't looking for any dishes with health on my mind, so I would have skipped anything labeled to appeal to folks on special diets.

Food is at the very top of my cruise needs. If the food isn’t just right, it kinks up the entire cruise for me. The last sailing I did with Royal Caribbean will be the *last* sailing I do with them until they can get the included food scene back up to snuff. Until then, it’s HELLO NORWEGIAN! 👋 Last time I sailed with Norwegian, I was on the Encore, and the food was *right* on par. Unfortunately, I skipped O’Shehans, figuring I’d try them another time. I was much more focused that sailing on the buffet. Mind you, the MDR was not up to snuff, but I forgave that, because I literally could have eaten at the buffet for every meal. If a cruise line gets their buffet right, then I can overlook other details. The pretzel pub rolls were fabulous, and I had one or two every lunch or supper. I love your “play-by-play” style with the food scene, Grant!!! Cruise food is serious business for most of us!

Thank you Grant! We cruise only on NCL. We like O’Sheehans quite a bit. Favorite food - hubby’s are the wings and mine are the nachos.

I think I’ll have to try the nachos on this trip. We have sailed on a few different lines, but have chosen to stick with NCL now. 😊

Russian dressing is a piquant American salad dressing consisting of mayonnaise, ketchup, and other ingredients. Russian dressing is similar to Thousand Island. The Reuben sandwich is a North American grilled sandwich composed of corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing or Russian dressing, grilled between slices of rye bread Sounds like they nailed it by your description. Maybe you jsut dont like Reuben sandwhiches..

Very much looking forward to my cruise on Norwegian Jade for 32 nights next April. Your food videos are wonderful - easy to watch and very informative - and very much appreciated!

I was addicted to the pretzel bites and got them every day on my last cruise. I liked the spinach dip but some days it was kinda watery which was hard to get on the chips. Also really enjoy the chicken salad too!

I'm mostly an MSC cruiser but this Summer I'm going to try the NCL EPIC so i find your food videos very helpful. Thanks

Just came back from the Escape July 30th. I ate at Sheehan's twice. I did like the Pastrami Reuben although I had nothing from before to compare. I also had the sweet chili wings which I liked. I didn't find the food in the main dining rooms to be that great. I never did get to eat dinner at Garden Cafe as I was in the Solo Group and wanted to eat with other friends which was at usually Savor, once at Taste and once at The Manhattan Room which had the best ambiance.

Thanks for this informative video. Do you have more information on healthier choices? A lot of these options seem very heavy foods and it would be great to see healthier options with less carbs or more salad/veges etc?

@@genx_jen , I think the most traditional recipes use Russian dressing. But thousand Island is a way better improvement!

Honestly I feel bad that Grant had a bad experience with the Ruben. It may be one of my favorite things on the entire ship.🛳️ It’s in the top 3 Rubens I’ve had all time. But I do agree with Grant on the oatmeal…. It’s less than good.

Hello Grant, hope all is well. New subscriber, I love o' Sherman's and Local . My favorite for lunch is the chicken wings and the loaded nachos. I have chosen these Venues for breakfast, lunch and dinner many times when cruising. Menu offers many choices . I use to visit the buffet alot , now sense I have been introduced to these eateries I do not frequent the buffet. Highly recommend. Another great video. We are actually going on the Bliss this weekend. Yay! 🎉 I absolutely love the pretzel bites. I think that was my favorite snack on my last cruise. I have always loved Rueben sandwiches. For years, when I was a vegetarian, I would leave off the corned beef and put lettuce in its place. Most Reuben’s are wet not only because of the dressing, but also because of the sauerkraut. A lot of places don’t drain it enough before putting it on the sandwich. I actually tried The Local’s Reuben on the Bliss last year and it was pretty good. I haven’t tried the carrot cake, but I am planning on it this time. Oh and the artichoke dip is good, but not as creamy as an upscale restaurant.

The local has been our go to on crusies. We may do garden cafe once or twice but mainly go to the local. The bugers, wings and fish & chips are amazing. They also have gluten free bread and buns if you ask.

Fish and chips me, my husband loves the blue cheese buger as well, with kid loving the pretzel bites.

I love that pork and plantains dish! I think I ordered it three times on my last cruise 😂

@@CruisewithGrant it’s so good, I want it now 🤣 i’ll have to wait for my next cruise in October. also, I find it to be the perfect portion size. Years ago O Sheehans used to have the most perfect grilled chicken sandwich on their menu, so disappointed when they removed it. by the way, thank you for the tips on buying Norwegian stock, I bought it before my last cruise, but missed the 15 window to get on board credit. Still glad I purchased it when I did because it has been on a steady gain.

The spaghetti at the Buffet is the best. I had Steak and Eggs for a whole month on the Prima . Do the whole fleet have that now.

Hoping NCL gos back to frying the wings. Was on March, July & Joy in October. PLEASE NCL fried wings

Hi! I noticed a picture of you with a Christmas tree in the background. Could you please point me in the direction of any videos you have with your experiences on NCL holiday cruises? My family (nine in total) will be spending Christmas aboard an NCL ship, and I wonder what suggestions you have. Also, how are the holiday meals and decorations?

Hey Grant great video as always. During my time on the Bliss, I went to the local twice it was good, but the wait times were borderline excessive, which was a little frustrating. I love that they have a dish with plantains (bit of a plantain snob here). I'm half Nigerian, and if there is one thing I love to eat, it's a good fried plantain 😋

@tammystreasures8766 the first time was just bad planning on my part since it was sail away day and it very was busy; the second time though I think I may have just fallen through the cracks the person seated next to me and ordered the same thing as me got their food first despite being seated 20 minutes after me. Food service is hard, probably even more so on a ship, so it wasn't the end of the world, but it was frustrating all the same.

Hi Justus 👋 Sorry for the delay in getting back; just recovering from a little cold. I saw your follow up and boarding day is always a bit of a zoo. I hope that you get to give it another go on your upcoming cruise. I also agree with you on the plaintains, I'm a bit of snob too and so these weren't the best, but I've also had Cuban chicken in the main dining room with plantains that have been perfect; it's a hard thing to get them exactly ripe. I hope you get the best when you try them!

We absolutely loved the wings at O’Sheehan’s on our March 2020 cruise on the Breakaway - delicious! Unfortunately, the wings at the Local on our February 2023 cruise were quite different. The ‘new’ baked wings were almost slimy, not good at all. Another passenger told us he ordered them well cooked, and they were only slightly better.

My experience, too!

On my first cruise last year on The Joy we ate at The Local a lot. I liked the fish & chips, the chicken salad and the Reuben. The Reuben was so big it was hard to eat so maybe having less isn't a bad thing! I had a Caesar salad as a started pretty much every time. I was on the Prima in April and we only went to the Local a couple of times. The fries were awful but it wasn't exclusive to the Local; they were bad at every place on the ship including a specialty restaurant. Cold, chewy and just awful. I'll be on the Escape in October and I'm hoping the food is better, but the food seems to be going downhill on every cruise line this year.

There was no Rhythm Jive on our cruise! We had a great Alaska cruise but there was no O’Sheehans on Norwegian Sun!😢😢😢! We will be going on Norwegian Gem in October and they have O’Sheehans onnthe ship and I’m looking forward to it!🙏🙏🙏🙏

I'm trying to figure out which wifi package to buy? I also have the free at sea unlimited drink package, which doesn't include water bottles, is the ship water alright enough to drink a ton of?

Hey Grant, you are better than NCL's marketing department! (Or are you part of NCL's marketing department (suspicion emoji) lol) A am a foodie and I love to cook as well. And with the task of cruise operators to be able to offer food that the biggest percentage of people like - NCL has a lot of variety!

My go tos are always nachos or fish and chips

Would any of the buffets/restaurants allow you take food back to your room? Or sneak it out? Sailing next month and need to have food in the room for my toddler. Trying to cut back on additional costs and room service delivery fees.

I tend to skip burgers on cruises because they are everywhere where I live. I usually get fish and pretzel bites. No fries for same reason. Fish is harder and harder to come by here. The apple pie is weird. I won't get again. It was edible and I refuse to waste food unless super full. I didn't have to cook it so every thing taste better for that reason! I will have to try the new wings in October in London.

Just got off the Bliss and found the Local to be very hit and miss. The spin/art. dip is more like queso dip. My wife had the chicken wings once and they were just terrible (fatty.) Her nachos were not very good either, but later, I got them and they were good. She got the hot dog once and it was ok. I got the fish and chips once late and they were ok but after having fish and chips in Juneau, they were kind of meh. I thought that the Reuben and the bleu burger were very good. My favorite was the Hot Fudge Sundae.

I loved the chicken salad sandwich on the bliss. Heading on the escape 2 weeks today! Would they allow me to wrap up a sandwich and I can put in my back pack to take with me on an excursion? I love sandwiches on the go and being free too.. LOL

I will be on the Escape in two weeks also. Been in the Escape alone 11 times. However, they won't let you take food out. If you ask they will tell you no because they want to make money off of room service. I bring zip lock bags and just sneak my food in there. Sometimes I wrap it up in one of their cloth napkins.

Also, the buffet is an option to walk food out. They don't care if you take food out of there.

Classic reuben sandwiches have 1000 island!

I had the Coney Island hot dog and on the Norwegian Epic my husband son and I went there for breakfast as I felt they had a better selection there then at the main dining room or the buffet up top.

Hello, I have a question about port days. I read that guests are able to get off the ship about 2 hours after arrival in ports. Is this accurate? If we arrive at 7am, how soon can we disembark? I may want to schedule my own excursions. Thanks for all responses!

It depends on if it's a tender port or walk off port.......if its tender you might need a tender group number and on NCL you can get them the night before. When it says 7am usually you're off the ship around that time if you're walking off, the cruise director makes announcements when you can walk off. It also depend on how big the ship is and how many people are getting off. We had a tender port in Ireland and the latest boat was about 1.5 hours from when we were starting to get off.

Also on NCL if you're a gold member and above you may not need a tender port ticket. And you might be able to just walk off

Definitely not 24/7 on the Eurodam, which we experienced this past August on our Alaska Cruise...
