What a nice printer José. This is going to be my next printer sometime next year when I am ready to work almost full time with my analog photography. I don’t print in the darkroom yet (that is another project for later) so for now I am scanning my negatives and will love to print them in different sizes, but spatially in postcards and greeting cards, and for that this printer is going to be just perfect, as it will for my digital photography. This printer is a wonderful discovery to me, and it was through your channel and experience with it. Just imagine if they ever make a version with just 2 more colors (light Cyan and light Magenta) or even 3 more colors (light Cyan, light Magenta and light Grey), o Gosh, that would be something else.

Hello, I am delighted with the precision of your explanations. That's why I just purchased this same ET-8550, but no matter how hard I search, I can't find the ICC profiles corresponding to this machine. Can you tell me where to find them, especially for the Epson papers themselves. Thank you so much

Hello Jose I’m somewhat new to the channel I found it while researching the ET-8550. I was. Canon printer person before, i9900, pro 1, so I was a little unsure about epson. The last time I used an epson printer they were dot matrix. Anyway after your review and use of the 8550 I purchased one at Office Depot. You mentioned putting it to the test and I was wondering if you were going to try to print magnetic or sticker sheets as I have grandkids who love stickers and magnets, and I was wondering if I could print my own. I haven’t taken the plunge and purchased the sheets myself and I know how you seem to enjoy trying new media as I enjoy watching it, so I was hoping you might give them a try. How does this printer compare to Pro-100 in terms of "graininess"? Recently I was blown away that the ink dots of almost all pigment ink printers (including Pro-1000) are much more visible than on Pro-100. Aldo, it corredponds to many other 6 dye ink printers. Surely, the "graininess" problem is not that huge but still the tonal transitions and details on Pro-100 are visibly better. What about this Epson in this regard?

So I got rid of my older Canon S9000, but retained the various Canon, HP, and Epson papers I had collected. I now own and am learning the ET-8550 and Qimage Ultimate. Should I sell the Premium Canon papers? Or can I obtain ICC profiles for the ET-8550 and Canon paper? I understand you, Jose, do lots of printing using non-OEM/3rd party papers and create your own profiles. Since I'm new(er), I want to print and not get derailed into having to create paper profiles. Maybe later. Suggestions anyone? I tried using Epson's Photo+ utility for some small prints. What gives? Qimage kicked its butt.

One question: Using Epson ABW mode in QImage - isn’t it enough in the printer driver to switch to ABW (or Black & White), or do I manually need to change in the QImage user interface to „Let the printer manage color“ additionally? I always thought that ABW always means printing without ICC profile. But maybe the ET-8550 is different from P800/P900?

Jose I have an Epson 8550 and love it. I am considering Qimage for Mac since I only have Mac computers. How many features and functionallity I am giving up with the Mac version of Qimage vs the windows version. In effect is the Mac version worth the advantage over using Epson print layout, etc for printing? thx Mike

Yes. Much better. It provides you with automated correct color management. You cannot make an error. If you do decide to buy it make sure to use my discount likes on all my video descriptions.

Is the Epson ET8550 a Dye ink or a pigment ink! Also I can not find any 3rd party ins for thsi on PCI . It lists it under EPSON but there is no information there

Epson ET8550 has both a dye and pigment black ink and a separate gray ink which totals in a number of six inks.

I thought that the only paper setting that used both blacks was "Velvet Fine Art"?

I think that is indeed the info from Keith, also due to physics of the ink might only work well on certain papers, I think Keith mentioned matte papers.
