What SOUNDS Do Turkeys Make?! | How To CREATE AND USE Turkey Vocalizations!
Ойын-сауық
What sounds do turkeys make in the wild?? Matt Dye of Land and Legacy goes over the sounds a hen will make and how to replicate those. While being able to replicate these sounds is important, it is just as important to use them at the correct time. Matt describes vocalizations that hens will use from tree talk in the mornings to mid-day activities.

One of the better videos I’ve ever seen explaining calls properly. Nice job buddy!

Appreciate that!! Good luck the rest of the season!
Great stuff. Love the natural approach and mimicking what they do. Thank you.
Well done Matt.
Thank you for sharing
This spring is going to be my first steps and attempt to learn turkey hunting. This video has been an amazing source. Thank you so much.

Good luck! I started 4 years ago and have had some pretty good luck. There's nothing like getting a gobbler convinced and listening to him hey closer and closer. Until he's in your face, hammering, and you can feel the gobble in your chest. So much fun! Hope you have some awesome experiences. This year will be my daughter's first year turkey hunting and I've never been so excited.

@deanrodriguez5067 my first year I didn't get even close until the last day I could hunt of the season May 29th. I ended up calling in a Jake to 5 yds with my 6 yr old daughter with me. Every year has been a great experience since. Good luck, keep after it!!!

The first sound to get turkey to gobble is to slam the door to your truck.

A lot of people don’t know about the fly down cackle. The best sound is box call. But most realistic is mouth call and a wing
Really good

They can hear that on a clear day with leaves on probably 150 to 200 yards away and further with no leaves on the trees. Tree yelps that is.

Thank you. Very informative. How does someone master the use of the mouth call? In my case, the actual use of it. Pretty much a rookie, but I so much want to learn more about this sport. Ty

Our suggestion is just practice practice practice, and try different cuts and brands of calls. Don't spend hundreds of dollars, but buy a few different ones and see what fits best in your mouth and which one you are making the best "turkey sound" with. Everyone is different, mastering volume control and tempo of your calling is just as or more crucial that mastering the calls themselves. Hopefully this is somewhat helpful and best of luck if you're still hunting this spring!
Thank you very much for you time and help. Which cut of diaphram and make were you using ??
@Whitetail_Properties

Rolling thunder - money maker which is a batwing call!
When another hen comes in the picture I always heard to mimic her exactly. Same number of cuts and yelps or clicks and purrs or whatever calls she does. And the same amount of emotion as the hen. If she is very aggressive you can get more aggressive.

Great video! What’s the brand name of the pot and friction calls?

Slate call was a zink anodized aluminum and the box call was walnut from David Halloran.
This video helps a ton. How do you purr with a diaphragm call?
@Whitetail_Properties
Жыл бұрын
Try rolling your tongue without the call in and the replicate that with the call in.
If I'm working a Bird on the roost my first calls are roost chirps. Chirps are low volume calls but if the Bird responds stop calling go silent this will keep the Gobbler from flying down in the opposite direction. Too many times i have hunters say" the Turkey answered and Gobbled on the Roost but flew down and walked away gobbling. Too much Gobbling is not a Good thing when the Tom is on the roost.

Just have to read the birds body language in each situation.
Thanks for the video.! I am curious on what brand of diaphragm call you are using. I'm constantly looking for what I feel is a better sound. I have found diaphragms that are nice and raspy and others that work well for purring. But I have been having trouble finding one that sounds right and is responsive when you do some aggressive cuts and clucks. The tone on your video sounds spot on for cutting. What brand and style are you using?

Dave Holloran makes great calls, but there are many good call companies out there. Just have to try a few and see what works for you.

That's a wing off of a turkey. You can hit your hat on your leg to mimic a fly down.
You left out the thumping sound that a tom turkey makes. It's hard to find anyone that will post that sound but I've heard it. I don't think it would be called a 'call' yet it seemed to be more like a deep throbbing sound of contentment that the male made. It was exquisite to hear.

Yes that is called drumming, male turkeys will make that sound when they are in full strut. It is a very unique sound and very cool to hear in the woods!

@@Whitetail_Properties I was in Pennsylvania and there was a large male layi against the glass by a downstairs window that was on ground level. I keep hearing the sound like this low deep drumming sound and I thought what the heck is that so I followed the sound. I could see the turkey laying outside the window but it couldn't see me and I stood there and listen to it for an hour. It was just echoing in the cement basement. One of the most lovely sounds I've ever heard. That turkey was just laying there very content. Later I caught pictures of two males fighting, ripping their necks apart. Wow. I've never killed an animal but that was a sight to behold. I now love turkeys.

I accidentally discovered the drum sound on my first Tom. Called him down and as soon as he came within sight of the hen decoy he began strutting and thumping his chest as he approached . I never had a clue they made that sound but I knew it was him. Some sounds I don’t think are necessary and I’m probably gonna let that one go until I master the rest.
Shut my eyes I should loose my ass if I was betting that is a live Turkey
Why can't you look into the camera doing your calling...lol
