Or would it be better to just plant them in the ground when they arrive in early June...? & water them often....? i want to add 3 Dunstan Chestnut trees in early October...

I think the new research is showing that just because it’s a heavy arrow, doesn’t mean it’s going to penetrate. I would look into testing some arrows that have stiffer shafts compared to those full metal jackets. Yes the fmj is heavy, but it bends quite a bit on impact resulting in the loss of energy.

The ground cloth is more effective at keeping grass and weeds at bay. You can remove it once the tree is established.
@MasterKenfucius4 күн бұрын
@@Whitetail_Properties That's not a question of effectiveness. Roundup is effective too, but you don't want it there. Mulch provides continuous nutrition, enhances the soil fauna, and keeps it cooler. Black plastic cloth does the exact opposite of all that and is not recommended.

I liked what the guy had to say about briars loosening the soil. I am starting corn this year and considering corn is a “grass” and trying to find a margin between the grass that grows and the wild flowers and plants in the field is doing good so far. The objective is to make the plants “happy” by suiting them to their environment. A good contrast is something like Indian Paintbrushes or morels or anything that only grows with a certain companion plant. You have strictly companion plants and strictly scavenger plants like the briars that seize the opportunity to grow were nothing else will… and everything in between.

Im pretty late to the party, but I accidently did a one two punch approach to cool season grasses and lespedeza. I was working on a prairie restoration job. I mowed then it was time to spray. I found lespedeza scattered through the project blooming. I needed to spray the cool season stuff there and it was late septemeber.so i did 2 quarts of gly per acre and an oz of escort for 100 gallons. Totally killed the cool season grasses to the point there was no cool season grass the next year. Tons of forbs came up and the lezpedeza was gone for a while too. I wouldnt be spraying escort willy nilly, but it seemed to be very effective with the round up.

That way, if you ever have a massive rainstorm, the excess water simply flows over the top board and you don't end up with a berm/damn blowing out.
