Years ago...we stopped doing shows and only sell on eBay. As you get older you will appreciate ebay more. Also eBay gets world wide customers...shows are local. You are definitely a “font” of information. Thank you for sharing your expansive knowledge with us!

I do appreciate that aspect of it a lot! I know I will eventually age out of the shows, but I really enjoy the in-person aspect of it so much. They're also great places to source!

I don't do auctions at all on eBay. I'm just a seller that would rather wait for the correct price... sometimes my item will sit there for six, seven or eight months but eventually I do get the price I want.

That's a good strategy for most people! I sometimes do well at auction and sometimes not so much

For anyone wondering, I've just had two return requests for precisely described, accurately photographed items within the last 24 hours. Buyers abusing the SNAD returns strike again. That means the seller gets to eat the return, eat the return shipping, and takes a return strike to boot. Because the buyer was cheaping out and expected an antique item to be perfect. Enough already.

I have a small store on ebay and sell everything for buy it now however every once in a while I will put something on auction and most times I am disappointed in the results. Thanks George, that was very interesting & informative! I always wonder the whys & hows of what sells for you. I enjoy listening to the whys of buying & sourcing & most of all the history, but really need to know what sold & how much. Checking ebay's sold comps doesn't tell me the when's, so to speak, such as you learned about the ticket & button. As usual, got my antiqucation fix 🤣

Selling vintage at auction will frequently hit the single bidder, even if it's a fantastic piece. People aren't searching daily or weekly for specific items that only show up a few times a year or less. IMO that's kind of the problem with running ebay auctions for vintage.

You do have a good point, and it's why a lot of people aren't doing it anymore. I'm realizing my sales are as good as my promotion of it is, I can't just rely on the right people to see it in a ten-day period

Very good information. It helps to see what these items sold for. Pricing is always a challenge. My take on shipping is that as a customer I pay shipping on just about everything I order online and consider that a customer expense. Thank you for the analysis George.

"Etsy vintage" is a descriptor that's none too flattering. (i.e. vintage 2001 ... seriously? ) As for me, I'm quitting eBay this year. Besides messing with taxes and medical problems, it's a case of being nibbled to death by ducks. Abysmal customer servivice for sellers (who are their customers, not the buyers) and what has become an actively hostile work environment, they're chasing off good sellers. I no longer recommend the platform to anyone selling electronics, sneakers, or higher valued jewelry. Or much of anything else.

I'm glad you got my "Etsy Vintage" comment in the spirit I intended it lol! eBay is sometimes the only place to go though, depending on what you have to sell...it is the biggest vintage market in the world, so I think we're stuck with it
