Thank you for the info on what to look for in feeding your dog. We recently adopted a 3 year old Boston terrier mix. Started with dry and added wet to the mix and it's a good combination. Will check on all the nutritional factors as well. 👍

Hi Charlie! Thank you first and foremost for making this content for all of us eager learners. I recently became a pet parent to a (now 3 month old) standard poodle. The breeder was feeding him Dry puppy kibble from the Blue Buffalo brand. I decided to continue feeding him that, but I am willing to transition him, if you tell me that the first few ingredients on that Blue Buffalo brand are not the best. Those are: Deboned Chicken, Chicken Meal, Brown Rice, Oatmeal, Barley, and Fish Meal. Furthermore, Crude Protein analysis is 27%, Crude Fiber is 5%, Omega 3 is 0.75% and Omega 6 is 3%. Thank you so much in advance for your opinion and helping me get my puppy in the right nutritional path.

I enjoy your videos so much, we are adopting our next pup in mid-December a beautiful Cavalier. We are thinking of trying a homemade food diet. We will only have one dog in the house, so we won't have to make much. Do you have any BARF or home-cooked recipes that you like? Thank you for all the helpful videos.

When I was feeding raw, I found a butcher in my area who sold 2 pound tubes of ground meat, bone, and vegetables. I would cook up a large batch of oatmeal, and add it to the raw mixture, and I also added a commercial dietary supplement.

I feed Royal Canin to my puppies, and their specialty foods to newborns, pregnant and lactating bitches. I used to use RC for my adults too, but they've had distribution problems with the large bags I need, so the adults are now on Merrick - with ancient grains. I only use special foods for seniors if they are very old and have special dietary needs, but none of them now are in that category.

@@chaskat35 I've been watching your very informative and fun videos for a few years. I'm going to be switching my 9 mo old cavalier from her Royal Canine Cavalier Puppy food to adult food. Sadly, I can no longer purchase the Royal Canine Cavalier Adult. I noticed you feed your babies Merrick. I've been looking and they have several options w/ grains. Which specific one to you feed your Cavaliers. Thanks so much for your help. - Alisa :)

I used to use RC for my adults too, but they've had distribution problems with the large bags I need, so the adults are now on Merrick - with ancient grains. We fed raw diet for a long time, but it was simply not worth it. We have a local butcher who ground up meat, bones, and vegetables, and packaged it frozen in 2 lb tubes. I purchased it 100 lbs at a time, so I needed a special freezer just for the dogs. Because I am concerned about micronutrients, I had to mix in a dietary supplement every day, and because our dogs were not holding their weight on this protein-intesive diet, I had to cook up oatmeal and mix it in as well. With all that trouble, I didn't see any benefits. Of course, if you have only one dog, it's feasible to buy a prepared raw food, but make sure it has everything the dog needs.

I feed my Cav (8 mos. old) the kibble recommended by the Cav AKC (plus a TBL of pure canned pumpkin) but she scratches and bites her skin constantly. She is on Advantage topical flea/tick prevention and I never see fleas on her. I bathe her once a month in very diluted Oatmeal dog shampoo. Could her diet be causing the itchiness?

Some dogs have food allergies, but it's not all that common. If you want to be sure, you can make changes, such as adding something other than pumpkin, or changing brands of dog food. If you change brands, find a brand that is based on a different meat than what you use now. I've known one dog that had a chicken allergy, so he went on a salmon based food, and did fine.

Do Cavaliers have stomach sensitivity? I’ve noticed that there’s a couple of small dog breeds that have stomach issues. My dog has minor stomach issues and it took me a while to find him a food that he didn’t vomit.
