We have few resources and ability to do good things like Jane had been doing, but we have the same perception that a program like Jane had done should last not just for her life time but continue forever.

Why is it, that the people that care the most, about the most important things on this planet..... Have literally ZERO power to change things... I mean... it is just so FUKED UP ... even if someone who cared MASSIVELY about the ACTUAL important things in the world do get into some sort of power.... they soon realise that, towing the status quo, the established rhetoric, the party line... is the only way to move up in their careers. I cant stand it. People in power move so so slow. Remember William Wilberforce..? That's what we need!

Inspiration is fine, the need of the hour is not just inspiration alone, but some tangible, effective output in practicality. More than admiring her talks (which i am not disapproving), I would urge you to admire and inspire the true functional values of the ecosystem and do some thing so as to sustain a small portion of it's ecological services. When this is taken care of, then all other things surrounding it will fall in place.

Jane Goodall has been my idol since I was a very little girl. She is the woman who inspired me to follow my dream of creating a career with animals, while continuing writing my blog. We need more women with her intelligence, compassion and humanity. Love

I too cry for shame at what we humans have done to other species, the jungle, the forest , the insects , the birds, the fishes, reptiles etc , etc. In the last 50 years UK we have killed off with pesticides at least 60% of insects and birds in what we have left in the country side. Mammal numbers are almost wiped out in 50 years, to say nothin of previous uk extinctions. Bears, wolves, red sqirrels , lynx, loads of various small mammals.

In what ways have you transformed, now that you know as humans, what we have done to other species, the forest etc etc. That would literally translate your crying for shame. You don't have to cry, just transform and help and strive in what ever way you can, so that the world also transforms for the better

More than wisdom, I would say that you are drawn more toward her beauty than wisdom. No use, My Boy, pick some thing from her wisdom and see what you can do. See! you have already diverted from knowledge, wisdom towards beauty.

When I lost my freedom/was in a locked facility I heard Jane Goodall speak on Oprah. It made me feel peaceful. I really appreciate the work she has done and the voice she gives our ecosystem and other species’/organisms.

Fifteen years later and her words are still so relevant.

Why do most people ignore the so-called "environmentalists": like Goodall, just plain depressing.

I agree - especially now - heck our president not just ignores but outright tries to destroy anything that's good for our environment (especially if it had Obama's approval). Also a lot of people are in denial because to not be requires them to do something different - starting with what we eat every day. It's hard to understand that people don't realize our very survival as a species depends on this - how can they not care about leaving their children and grandchilren without a home? Without water? In climate wars worse than anything we've ever seen? We need a grassroots movement on a huge scale around the world so we can demand that the politicians and corrupt corporations change. Anyone know of such an organization? I'm thinking I may have to start it myself!!!!

physiodude2 Sadly, the enemy is ignorance which has become a very strange...badge of courage. Ignorance is a human right according to a specific swathe of society. Their vigor and inspiration when it comes to spreading their ideas is simply frightening and sometime life threatening and yet they are the most resistant population to considering alternatives to their rock solid, narrow, harmful views.

30 minutes ago I lied in my bed scared of depression slowly catching my hearth again. After hearing Jane's words of wisdom that nature and love overcomes everything, I got new hope, because I believe that I am a part of the life circle called nature. Thank you Jane ❤️ Thank you Ted for bringing the content to the public

I like her voice, i could hear her for hours, whatever she would like to say.

I’ve been struggling with burnout and it’s made me bitter and cynical. This video has given me new hope and inspiration.

I grew up in the woods and left to live in LA, to work. After doing so, I've experienced the effect of cities- I could feel the smog in my mouth, and my mood became morose. I get headaches all the time and I have a hard time sleeping. I understand her concerns about concrete and hopelessness. I feel her shame and hurt for mankind because we are unable to work together and create a sustainable world. I hope it changes.

"Are you gonna come in, and drag me off?" -ahahaha, such a strong, steady and determined lady, still very kind, emphatic, and speak in a way that everybody understand. i love her so much!!

i'm a french guy doing a subject on you and your work and i almost cried while watching your video, when you wanted to stay a bit more to show people your work trying to convince them to change their way of living and to make an action to save the world. Your work is very ispiring. That's beautiful ! :)

Yes we do, but it never seems to help. I'm just one person trying to fight a battle in my small town to save the last of our woods here. Nobody else cares, nobody listens to me. One day squirrels, skunks and such will be endangered. Animals we now think are pests, but they're not. We need to protect every single wooded area, waterway and open fields we can. There should be a coming together of people in every town that want to save nature and our wild creatures. If we all get together as a group we can save our natural world little by little before it's too late. It's important we save land everywhere not just the rain forests. I'll continue fighting the local politicians and try to save what I can. I hope others feel the same way. 🐾

that was absolutely amazing! i've watched many of the TED talks already and this is one of the best. it's also one of the best speaches i've heard - moving, frank, engaging, and full of hope.

My professor had us watch this video for a discussion but I found her speech so captivating. I listened to every word and the message is powerful.

Some people I could listen to for hours. She is one of them.

jane goodall's a shiny example of what martin luther was saying in 1517: “A man does not live for himself alone in this mortal body to work for it alone, but he lives also for all men on earth; rather, he lives only for others and not for himself. To this end he brings his body into subjection that he may the more sincerely and freely serve others.”

I am chinese ,I appreciate doctor.Goodall very much ,because what she did . We should love and protect our land like mother take care their children.

My first introduction to Jane was when I was in the third grade. They had us doing a lot of really cool independent study projects. We had to read her 1988 book, “my life with the chimpanzees.” I remember it was a lot to process as a boy: a beautiful young woman going into the heart of Africa to live among apes, just to study them? Chimps and gorillas can rip a normal man in half on a bad day. It wasn’t until I became an adult that I realized how significant this woman’s contributions to society are. She is an OG, who lived through World War II as a young girl; who would go on to become one of the foremost and respected ambassadors for animals and biology. She speaks with a level of wisdom, warmth and optimism that we all need more of.

Jane Goodall was the first public figure that I looked up to, in a sense a hero or an idol for me when I was a kid. She still holds this roll for me. Thank you Jane for your work, your care for the world and your hope for the future. Human brains and hearts, like ours, are rising to love problems, and we like nature, are resilient.

Much love to you Jane. I often feel desperate and so very ashamed of humans, it hurts my stomach. I have mental issues that make it very hard to utilize my potential, but I keep on trying. As long as I can educate myself and eventually lead a few people to a better consciousness and understanding of "our" Earth (our = all living beings), I'll have done good. Meanwhile, I hope to develop my inner peace with the help of nature and all my animal cousins.

Now can you list down few of the transformations in you, after having learnt from this video and perhaps few similar such. Do you have a list? If not, what ever you have heard or learnt is a waste. It is as good as not knowing, not seeing at all. It is good to be an uneducated fool than an educated idiot

Incredible Jane Goodall, life work and views. A true inspiration in the field of ecology and biology. Sadly the people coughing and making noises constantly should have been immediately removed from the Ted Theater! It is embarrassing on Ted's behalf that the company cannot secure a respectful situation and environment for someone as incredibly inspiring and professional as Jane Goodall.

Could it be possible to insert Portuguese subtitles on this video? It is amazing and more people would be able to learn from Jane’s wisdom.

Perpetuated financial greed corrupts and threatens our own future. But we seem to defeat our own purpose. We no one to blame but ourselves. The wealthy elite ccontrol the economy, consumers and life as we know it. We aren't powerless but have disavantages which require more action by the from everyone to make any progress conceivable, acheivable, measurable and constant sustainability. It requires such effort to from the majority of the it's inhabitants, whom are less fortunate then the mongers of capitalism. One day at a time, each seed planted will make a difference in our lives long term. God bless Jane Goodall! She's so easy to admire and love because she has integrity, intelligence, honesty, compassion, grace, bravery and resolve! I likely didn't include a dozen more or so attributes describing her? For all her lifetime achievements & sacrifices made for positive change our own humanity.
