What Secrets Swedish Marine Navy Hides From Us?

Ғылым және технология

The Swedish Navy is facing exciting times which looks set to seeing it recover some of the strength that it has lost due to defense cuts over the last few decades. While the number of vessels in the fleet has been significantly reduced since the 1980s, it possesses modern ‘stealth’ corvettes, updated mine hunters and is looking forward to a new class of submarine. Through its industrial partner Saab, the construction of two new A-26 Class submarines has already begun and designs have already been drawn-up for the Swedish Navy’s next generation of a stealth family of ships.

I can understand the upgrade to go ahead and identify and work out any future issues u may encounter with the a26 I believe it was called but why didn’t they just go ahead and do the third sub in the class as well?

    The picture of an aircraft carrier - why in the world would anyone want to take a carrier into the Baltic? It's like having a yacht in a childrens pool in the backyard. A carrier in the Baltic would be wounerable as heck, since there are a)not that much are to move in and b) a fair amount of the waters are quite shallow. All this mean a carrier, with escorts and supply ships would be unable to move freely and stay out of range from land based anti sea missiles.

  • @michaelpettersson4919

    Swedish submarines are no nuclear very quiet vessels for costal defence in shallow water. They can hovewer operate on the open sea if needed. US navy got worried that something similar could sneak up on them and so they needed to test how effective such a submarine would be against them. It is better to train with someone just shooting simulated tornadoes at them then a hostile nation doing it for real at some point.

    @@AndyWoohoo666 yeah, but the fact still stand: an aircraft carrier in the Baltics are nothing but a gigant target for Nato, Russia and their allies or even the subs of a country like Sweden. Because whatever else the Baltic region is, its very complex. Lots of places with shallow water, and allways within easy striking range for 1 side or another. And the politics are even more complex with a very real threat of World War 3 if Russia or Nato should make a go for it with violence. It is where west and east grind together, and anyone who holds a grip on the Baltic sea can air-strike places like Moscow, London, Berlin, Paris etcetera. Wish is maybe one of the reasons no one ever tried to do much about countries like Finland and Sweden. Becuase it is better to have a few fairly neutral countries in region to mix things up, then not have them. And yes. I know. The neutrality thing is very, very, very much in question. And as allways, it's complicated.

  • @AndyWoohoo666

    @AndyWoohoo666

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@erikgranqvist3680 Yes it is, but an aircraft carrier is very powerful, for example Gotland is comparable to an aircraft carrier and some that is why it is so strategical and why it's so big of a threat to Russia and their plans of the Baltic region. For example in 2020 the Russian sub Orel went into the Baltic Sea and it more or less had to be submerged all the time. So Russia do this foremost to flex their muscles but for them an aircraft carrier is an important addition for when they are doing a "Crimea" on Gotland. Gotland by far the most strategic and important spot in the Baltic Region both for NATO, Russia and neutral countries like Sweden and Finland. The American expedition force in Norway have as a part of their mission to aid Sweden in case an hostile act against Sweden and particular Gotland hence the more active exercises past years.
