What's Your Money Personality? | October Budget | Aja Dang

I'm Aja Dang and here is my October budget! One piece of good news - we have less than $30,000 left in my student loans! I'm hoping to be debt free before December but that's all dependent on whether or not freelancer payment life is kind to me.
I definitely found the Money Personality test from Empower to be very eye opening.

I got The Hedonist - "who ever says money can't buy happiness needs to spend more time with you". Definitely work hard for my money and like to spend it, but also am the type of person to never look at my bank account because I'm scared of the damage I've done. Still learning to stick to my budget, but sometimes that impulse buy gets the best of me!

I am a Nurturer and that is so true. Being a single parent for 19 years to two children has given me that financial mentality to always make sure my loved ones are taken care of. And as the older sibling, my childhood was always taking care of my brothers while my parents were addicted to their habits. So my financial definition was accurate.

Everything was on credit cards, then my parents divorced when I was in high school (during the recession), and my brother and I helped pay for things (bills, food, etc) and they would pay us back when they got paid. So. Stockpiling money “makes sense” for how I saw money growing up. I always look forward to these each month! We have just under $15k left of $46k, so we both are ALMOST THERE!! Phew!!

I am 5 months late...but I am a new subscriber so I have a reason. I took the Empower test and I also got Stockpiler. Very, very accurate I must say. I agree with you so much on the frustration of having all this money thrown to debt when you could be doing so much more with it. Last month I paid off a 4 year long personal loan - final payment was over three grand. Before paying it off I was so excited that this loan that cost me $400 a month was going to be gone, and it was exciting while making the transaction. However, immediately after I felt anger. Anger at myself for putting myself in that situation. I started thinking that if I didn't have that loan that three grand could have gone towards a down payment on my first home purchase or I could have put that towards an emergency savings fund, but no, instead that money went to a bank. Although I am grateful for how far I have come in my debt payoff since I started budgeting about a year and a half ago I can't help but feel like it is never going to end. Anyways congratulations on paying off all your debt! Watching your budgeting videos has been great so far, even though I am years behind/latw. Looking forward to seeing how the rest of this year will go for you being debt free!

I do check my balances and credit card daily and input them into the every dollar app , I update my excel sheets often , I scribbled on my notebook with lots of numbers and plan to retire hopefully in 10 years (44-45 years old) Finance is all I think about and though I wish I can enjoy life as it is but I’m so afraid that time is not on my side as I wish I knew what I know now 10 years ago. Aja, i know you have heard this but hear it again you are a beast at slaying this amount of debts. If you are able to invest the same way you will be able to retire very soon :) . If you like Empower high-interest checkings you should definitely check Wealthfront, they have a higher APY. Used to be 2.65% at the beginning of the year but with the federal cut they are down to 2.10% which is still pretty good. It's what I use for my emergency fund. They dont have bill-payment features or a debit card, these are future features, so thats why I consider it a savings account for now, and since it's my emergency fund I don't touch that money anyway. Wealthfront is also a great company to have your 401K or a personal investment account with if you want an AI to do the work for you and not having to stress about choosing what to invest in.

You can apply for bc of status changes like lost of a job, got married/divorce, had a child, loss of insurance d/t loss of job, etc. I got laid off in September a few years back so I applied outside the annual renewal time frame (usually Oct/Nov). Then I got married in October and qualify to apply again 🤣

That quiz was so off. It said I'm idealist, and that as a kid I never had to worry about money. I grow up dirt poor and many times homeless as a teen. I'm decent with money but it's not everything to me. I watched my father slave for it and snobby rich people judge me because of it. Money a lot of times determine people personality. Not all the time but as a kid that's what I saw. I never wanted money I just want to be okay. What's that called?? To be fair many of the questions didn't have a response for me to choose my true feelings. Thanks for the video tho!!🤗

It may be cheaper for them to pay you with interest if you threaten to take them to court. If you win, THEY have to pay court fees and additional fees, etc.

I’m having MAJOR anxiety and stress because I have waaay too much to worry about and can’t figure out the best route to go. We have about $25,000 in debt (which includes $15,000 in credit cards, $8,000 in a loan from my pension, and $2,000 in student loans), plus I’m going to have to sink $3,000 into my car (which is worth around $2,500), plus we have to work on buying a home, due to the fact that we may have to leave our rental. All three money concerns are related, and I wish I could just focus on one concern, but I can’t! All three are equally important, and therefore our money issues will take longer to fix, because I can’t just focus on one issue and get it out of the way ☹️ We can’t get a home or a car until we are debt-free, but still have to save money for a home and car...I wish I could just put all of our money to our debt, but in case my car dies, or we have to look for a new home ASAP, I have to contribute to savings. This is so frustrating, and it keeps me up at night ☹️ We’re truly not in the hole as others, but I feel like we’re so far away from being in a comfortable financial spot.

My office has united healthcare for our health insurance. It is $700 per month for a single person. It is over $2000 per month for a family. My office does subsidize this but for my family i do pay about $250/paycheck for our family coverage. Health insurance is just a ton of money.

Idk if this is possible, but please do another run of the 'Support your Girls' tees. I got a bit bigger so my tee doesn't fit that well anymore. And I have friends and random people who ask me about the shirt all the time! You could donate some of the proceeds to breast cancer research since it's breast cancer research month!

Hi Aja! I know you use a journal to track your expenses and your payments on bills. Would you mind doing a video of what you created in your financial journal and what are some pages you would like in a budget/financial organizer if you had the perfect organizer/journal? Having an excel sheet is great but having an organizer/journal is even better to carry around with on a daily basis.
