    These are the postseason rules for OT not just the superbowl. So yes it does matter the clock situation, because wind can and does play a factor at other games. Also the clock matters because if for some crazy scenario the 2OT period expired, there would have been a second half time break and each team would get a new set of 3 timeouts.

  • @CrazyCranker

    I thought I understood the new OT rules but, the more I hear about it the more confusing it is. Each team getting a possession is good but, the team that is ahead at the end of the 1st OT 00"00 should win the game. The way their describing it, the game could drag on forever. What would have happened if the clock struck 00:00 before the Chiefs score? is the game over? I'm missing something here, feel free to chime in on this. I'll bet Kyle knows the rules now-lol

    That’s why Tony Romo comparison is great: the clock, field position and timeouts are exactly like another game with four quarters. Now, what happens after an entire game of four Overtimes has passed and they’re still tied?

    You have to allow each team to complete their first possession no matter how long it takes. Suppose the team with the first possession takes the entire first 15 minute without scoring or losing possession. They would still have the ball in the next 15 minutes until they have completed their first possession. Then the other team will be given the ball and after their first possession if their score is greater than the first team's score the second team wins. If less the second team loses. If the score is the same as the first team's score then the other team gets the ball in sudden death with the first team to score wins. This is what the 49er coach meant by wanting to get the ball third.@@CrazyCranker

I finally began to educate myself and understand 2 days later (Feb. 13), that it wasn't an end of overtime issue at all. When the clock expires, there is an automatic two-minute break. That is the purpose of the clock - to note when the two-minute break will occur. If each team has not finished its first possession at the time of the break, play will resume with the same down and distance in the same place on where it ended, except on the other end of the field.

    KYLE, You don't erase the clock, because after 2 quarters of overtime it goes to sudden death. If there's no clock how do you when the quarters are over?

  • @oubrioko

    @oubrioko

    3 ай бұрын

    It goes to *sudden death* if the game remains tied _after_ both teams have had an opportunity to possess the ball. If there is no winner at the end of the 2nd overtime period, the team who _lost_ the coin toss at the beginning of overtime gets to choose whether to kick or receive. They essentially start another _Half._ If the game reaches the end of the 4th overtime period, there is another coin toss. The game continues in this format indefinitely until someone wins by scoring. No postseason overtime game has ever gone into a 3rd OT period _...yet_

    Lasting impression of the SB is that Mahomes is the guy. Refuses to lose in that situation. It's championship clutch. It's the difference between Allen, Jackson, Burrow, Purdy, and Mahomes. Mahomes is, and has been up there, with Brady, Montana, Bradshaw, and other greats. This turning out differently meant something here, yet here we are, with Mahomes and another championship. Sure he has help but so did all the others. Just when you thought Brady was going to be the GOAT forever, here comes Mahomes and it's going to take it to another level. This is not Lebron and Jordan. This is Jordan and another level of Jordan. Once in a generation, and now, once in a century. Records that will NEVER be broken. Mahomes will destroy all the records and make the NFL meaningless as far as championships and records go. As a Chiefs fan, I do not take for granted what's happening., This is special, I'm blessed to be a part of it. And I'll relish every second of it. Can't wait for the endless conversations about it.

    The purpose of the clock is to have more stoppages in play. The purpose of more stoppages in play is more commercial time, so bottom line it’s about money. That… and it makes sense. You never make players play non stop with no clock in any other scenario so you shouldn’t do it now.
