I have an 11yro grandson with an interest in being astronomer. It is on me to learn at least the ABCs as he is getting his first telescope in December. Ps & Qs: Purpose and Participation, Questions and Queries. Thank you NASA, JPL ;)

Be sure it's not a department store telescope, almost all are near unusable.

Use realiable sources. 6 inch is agreat starter espically if its dobsonian

Low magnification/ wide field of view eyepieces are my favorite. If you only splurged on one, that's what I would do. Add a barlow and you're golden.
