If someone use my hair system as a tool to offend me, Ill just say this is a disability I have and at least I am doing something about it to make myself feel better. Because at the end of the day this is a disability that effects your self esteem and self perception in a negative way. In fact, making fun of a man balding is worst than making fun of a fat women since she can at least lose weight with time, but hair loss is forever and little remedy to ease the journey.

Amen! I'm considering a transplant for now, because my hair is making me look 10 years klder than I am in reality and it makes me cringe everytime I see myself in the mirror. I stopped taking photos of myself like 5 years ago because I can't stand looking at myself. Making fun of balding men is just cruel. Hardly anyone choses to be bald, Hardly anyone looks good without hair. It's not a choice in the majority of cases and as you said - it's a disability which can make a Deep cut in a man's self esteem.

I have a friend that has this and if he doesn't totally stay on top of his true hair color below it's totally obvious that he has a piece on top his head. He also won't go swimming under water with it, won't jump off my boat when it's 110deg out. He won't do anything that involves getting in the water. That has to suck.

As someone that has been using hair systems for over 25 years, there is a con... Well for me at least, its hard to find someone to cut or service your hair.. Yes you can go to any barber or any salon but you can't just have anyone cut your hair.. It takes a special sort of cut to make sure you can't see the edges. Trust me i learned the hard way.. A lot of people on here preach doing it yourself, but honestly, its nice to find someone to take care of that for you. To clean it, to cut it in, in make it look blended with your natural hair.. Thats been my biggest con. I wish there was an updated forum with Hair Replacement Specialists listed

As a woman, i get nail extensions, dye my hair pink, wear makeup, shave much of my body hair, pluck my eyebrows, etc. When it comes to these physical alterations, it’s best to approach it less from the perspective of whether or not people will be able to tell you’ve altered your appearance, and more from the perspective of just trying to achieve an aesthetic that you personally like. I’m okay with going out with and without makeup, it doesn’t matter that people know it isn’t real. It should be the same way with hair systems. I just feel like men should be able to be as nonchalant about cosmetic products as anyone else.

I would even hesitate to change the looks and length due to what ppl would think. 🤦🏾‍♂️ I had to realize that I’m a hair stylist and changing my look is within my artistry. I started doing my thing and get so many compliments! I wish I had started wearing units sooner. At one point I went from a 2” short cut unit to 22” long dreadlocks and people couldn’t figure out what was different. Atp I realized ppl aren’t paying as much attention as we think. I just told them I added extensions to my hair and they bought it without question.

I got a hair system and I love it. It makes me feel and look like I am 15 again. I had a really hard time when I was younger when I lost my hair. It definitely affected me in a bad way. I started to recede and lose hair at around 20 and I wore hats everywhere until now. I'm 35 now, but look like 20. I am like ralph maccio lol I age really slow. Anyways, it's amazing how much better having hair makes me look and when I went outside without a hat on it was so refreshing and liberating. It was your video and some others on KZread that helped me come to my decision. I don't feel bad about it and I feel fine if anyone asks me. I feel like guys shouldn't feel bad about this at all. It is no different than getting braces, contacts, etc.. It takes a little bit to get use to wearing it, but it is doable and having hair is worth it. I like how I can feel thick hair on top now instead of thin wispy hair and playing around with the styles is fun. I kept my system longer because I had longer hair on the sides so it blends perfectly. I honestly thought I would never have hair again. It is really cool to see myself with a full head of hair again. Hair is really an important part of who we are as humans it is how God made us.

@@samnectar When I sweat it doesn't really matter too much with the hair system I have as it is a French Lace. The lace base is more breathable so it doesn't irritate or make my scalp itch as much. I haven't gone swimming yet with it, but I can tug on my hair with quite a bit of force and it isn't coming off. There are videos showing people swimming with hair systems and they won't come off. Ultra Hold tape by Walker Tape is very strong and also waterproof. You can also use glue, but I prefer tape as it is easier to put on and clean when taking it off. If you have a medium light or medium density hair and someone runs there hand through the system they will feel a lot of thick hair. If they try to feel your scalp then they will feel the base of the system. They may also feel the edge of the hairline depending on how it is on your head. I don't believe these are big problems though because who is going to put there hand through your hair other than a girlfriend? The easiest solution is just be up front and honest with them and tell them you have a hair system. If they love you they will look past the hair system and support you. Problem solved! 😉

Video is spot on with regard to what your saying. Don't have the hair loss thing going on yet but you never know. Your reasoning and advice can be applied to so many things in life. We are all our own worst enemy and harshest critic. Life is too short to live it based on what everyone else thinks or might think of the decision you made to look better for yourself if that's what you want. Besides, it's 2022. I think the biggest thing to me if I ever lose my hair is the whole stigma behind it. We see it in movies where there might be a comedic scene of a man losing his 'toupee' in the wind or in a fight scene. Also part of the stigma is if women judge the man wearing a hair system. We need to get over the stigma because at the end of the day to me it's just enchancing your already existing beauty just like when most women use make-up. If someone is going to judge you for it, then they are not worth your time and are insecure themselves.

Great video bro. I’ve got my first consultation for a hair system next Saturday. I’ve been wanting and wishing for awhile now, but held back because of some of the cons that you talked about. I’m finally in a place where I feel comfortable doing this for me. I’m using a salon since I’m going to be a newbie at this, but eventually I would like to be able to order my own systems and just go for cut ins to save money. In your opinion, what are the best systems you’ve experienced?

Good for you man! Exciting! And as for systems to DIY, I’d recommend anything with a poly base. For most of us it seems to be the simplest to install on our own, easiest to clean up and reapply, and gives a very natural hairline. Learn as much as you can at the salon, but you’ll be ready to install it yourself after that session. Take photos and videos before and after too!

I worked for a company & the CEO tried to embarrass me in front of the team in multiple socials with comments about my bald patch & receding hair line. I’d respond by asking: “Conner, are you ok?” I never bit or gave him the reaction he wanted. Before I left the firm I noticed his hair was thinning, he always wore a cap so I never noticed before & he was 10 years younger than me. I never said anything, I just knew his time would come.

Me personally I don't have a hair system but I take finastride and rogaine for my hair every day. But I think it's important for man and woman to talk about other options for hair besides the medication side of it or hair transplant because Balding is different for everybody. And sometimes the side effects or the cost isn't worth it for somebody from for where they're at in there stage of balding. So having hair system or micro pigmentation is just as good if you do you're research and find something that works for your lifestyle.

Congratulations! 👏🏽👏🏽 In my case, it has taken me several years to actually have the confidence to wear a hairpiece. Now this year of 2023, I am ready! However, my approach is very very surprising, even to me. I honestly wouldn’t hide the fact that I’d be wearing a wig. I’m single, I’m a Rocker, I love fashion, photography, and I do all kinds of arts and crafts and fantasy Halloween and Día de Muertos makeup, and I’d take wearing a wig as a mere accessory and nothing else. I’m also thrilled about owning different styles and colors. I want mine to be shoulder-length and parted to the side or through the middle a la John Lennon/Kurt Cobain. Who ever I date will have to know and they will decide whether they like me for who I am and see me past the cool wigs. Anyway, thanks for this video man, it helped to boost my confidence even more. 🙏🏽

I'm not exactly balding yet but I'll keep this in mind in the future if I do start balding, this is a good video and what you have said here will definitely make me consider getting a hair system if I need it and want it. As for what you said about what other people would think, yeah people are more focused on their appearance to really notice any irregularities in other people unless those irregularities are highly noticable or just look unnatural (which doesn't seem to be the case with you because if I just saw your face and never reached this video I wouldn't even know) and most people wouldn't even find out unless you told them, even then like you said other forms of making your looks shine are considered socially acceptle despite people knowing they aren't natural, like I live in an area where people are cognitive of women wearing wigs and extensions, and we don't really care about it, I believe videos like these help reduce the stigma around men enhancing their looks.

Been wearing a system for nearly 30 years now... took awhile to find the right system, but zero regrets, and really no "cons" from my perspective. My system stays on for about 3 weeks, and I jump in the shower every morning, or after the gym or yard work... and just shampoo it like it was growing right out of my head. No issues, ever. It can be hard to find a stylist to do the cut-in, but a tip would be to connect with your local theater, and inquire if they have about stylists who may have their own salon, or work at a salon, but also share their talents at the theater. Those people have experience with wigs, and are also kind-hearted and empathetic. I remember early on, when I confided in a friend about wearing a system, I used the analogy that if you were in a car accident, and knocked out one of your front teeth... you would replace that tooth with a faux tooth. Now, you don't need that tooth to eat, but you wouldn't like how you looked with a missing tooth. You do what you need to do to feel wonderful about yourself.

The way I see it, wearing a hair system is no different to wearing a hat or a beanie. It's also Ironic that those who proclaim how they'd just shave their head are actually the insecure ones for having to constantly declare how much it doesn't bother them. Almost like they're trying to convince themselves. Also, the assumption that men get these things solely for the purpose of meeting women is pretty shallow. It's about self-esteem, confidence, and seeing yourself as you want to in the mirror. I think if transplants were more affordable then more people would get them and the class stigma of hair and even hair systems would be greatly reduced, but being backed into a corner when you are already feeling trapped will lead to overaggressive defensiveness.

Good video! I wore a hair system for 2 years when I first stared to realized I was balding. He looks amazing, but I will say this, if your hair is dark, it probably won't look as natural on you. The first day you put the system on, it usual looks ok, but as the days go by, the glue starts to accumulate dirty, making the hair line looks darker and faker (that happens quicker than you imagine, basically by the second or third day). The hair starts to dry out, and look unhealthy and different in texture that the rest of your hair. When the sides and back of your hair star to grow a bit, it won't longer blend with the system, because it doesn't fit the style it was given when first installed. It really doesn't look great on daylight. You don't really have that much control on how it looks from other angles. From the sides you can always tell is a system, because even with the lace front, nobody has a perfect line (or curve) as a hairline, and they are very difficult and time consuming to maintain looking half decent. You spend a crazy amount of money on products. You need to replace the system every 4-6 months, which is not cheap. Everyone is always looking at your forehead (because your hairline looks suspicious, at best), and you're always stressing over how your hair is looking. They are uncomfortable to wear and kind of hot, you fear people touching your head, and overall it never ends up looking natural for long. I was planning to leave a more neutral but insightful comment, but as I'm recapitulating, I just can't, I can even say it was a traumatic experience, honestly I think it played a big part in me developing social anxiety. Save your time, your money and keep your self from having this negative experience. Embrace baldness or go other rout. When I freed my self from the hair system, I realized I was on time to save my hair, started medication, minoxidil, and had a hair transplant (which was cheaper than changing system every 4 months + maintenance + products). If you're on time to save your hair, is better to invest your money on keeping it on your hair for as long as posible, that investing it on wigs that eventually you have to throw away. Or embrace baldness, I rather be bald and normal and blend in with the general population, that having my hairline stared at and scrutinized every time I'm in front of another person trying to have a conversation. It sound like I'm exaggerating, but it's mentally taxing over time.

So glad that your hair system is working out so well for you! Really like your positive attitude and energy. With that said, as somebody who's worn a system for nine years now, I agree and disagree with your points. I've been detected and "called out" five times, all when I wasn't making effort with my hairline, so in my experience, your hairline does play a significant role in how realistic a system looks. That and choosing an appropriate density. ALSO. No matter how well maintained a system is, it WILL be detectable in certain lighting and at certain angles, there's no way around it. But the biggest takeaway here IMO is "people who mind don't matter and people who matter don't mind." Whether people can tell it's a hair piece or not, as long as you're happy with your look and feel confident about your choice, that's what matters at the end of the day. But to be completely transparent to anyone considering doing this, yes, people are gonna know, even if they don't say anything, and I do wish someone would've given me a heads up about that because I was totally caught off guard when I realized some people were noticing. But ultimately, if people judge, that's their problem and not ours. Wicked video, Michael!

People actually called you out? Unless they were close friends or family, that's weird.. Also, up until a few months ago I had no idea hair systems even existed, and on top of that, until I started noticing some minor hair loss, I never paid much attention to anyone's hair or hairline. I think you would have to be a stylist or a barber or someone who knows hair systems exist in order to actually spot one.

If it’s a good system, if the thickness is appropriate for your age, if it’s blended properly with your existing hair, if the hairline is maintained properly then it is not true that most people know. Actually if you do these things most people don’t know. And most people aren’t looking at you and certainly aren’t up in your face an inch away with a magnifying glass looking at your hairline. I have noticed that bald guys will look at me, but none have ever said anything and they would be the first ones to say something and call you out. They look because they’re jealous of good hair-ironically that most of the them don’t know it’s a system,

@@Jake4G Sorry for the totally late response lol. They were co-workers who I worked with for a while and would banter with, so they probably didn't think it would be totally inappropriate to start making comments about my hair. Also, this was at a restaurant with very bright lights all over so you could really see EVERY detail of my head. The other time was when I was at the beach and my date asked why there was a line in my hair. In other places, I don't think it would have been quite as noticeable.

@@HRCISASKNK It depends on the environment in my experience. For instance, in places with bright lighting or in the sun, the light shines through the front of the system at the hair line and you see through it. I use to think "well who is gonna notice that unless they're staring at my head" but it just kinda sticks out to people. I even found out that people who I never told and who never seemed to have noticed really did know all along but didn't want to be rude. Can't speak for your experience though, only my own. In most places, I do agree that it is hard to detect as long as the density and blending is properly handled.

The best way is use a company like Top Lace, order couple pieces; cheaper and good quality. The front you should have less density and widow’s peak. Use tape around back perimeter and middle; white glue that clears up all over the shaved area. Take off once a week; shave, reapply. Daily you can use tooth picks to add white glue to frontal area. During workouts; use a headband and during sleeping.

I think this is valuable advice for me to hear because I am trying different methods of coping with my hair loss. I tried maintaining a shaved head but didn't like that. Now I use Toppik, and I also use drugs to prevent my hair loss from getting worse. I'm paranoid because I either think I use too much Toppik, or not enough. People are probably looking at me and wondering why my hair used to be long, and then shaven, and then short but with Toppik. It looks good in dim lighting, but in bright lighting, it's easier to tell that I have thinning hair. I obsess over it every second of every day. Maybe other people don't think about my hair loss as much as I do, but it's a fact that your hair is one of the main features that define you. When people talk about you behind your back, they are definitely talking about your hair loss at least once in a while.

I get that DS. Been there for YEARS with thinning hair. You’re right when you say others don’t think/feel it the same way, but we do - and that adds a lot of pressure and undue stress. If you’re in the position to try a hair system, do it. It’s been awesome for a lot of us.

That's good advice about wearing a hair system, but I don't think I need it yet. Now I'm more experienced with using Toppik, which is cheaper and requires less maintainance than a hair system. It makes me look and feel 10 years younger. I use dutasteride and oral minoxidil, which should prevent further hair loss for a while. The problem with drugs is that they probably aren't a permanent solution. I know from experience that finasteride buys some time, but it doesn't continue working forever. I'm trying to decide whether the right long-term solution should be a hair transplant or hair replacement system.

I have more good news. I am finally getting results from my hair loss drugs. Two doctors recently told me that I don't need a hair transplant. One is the dermatologist who agreed to prescribe dutasteride and oral minoxidil. The other is a hair transplant surgeon. The surgeon basically talked me out of it. He could have made a sales pitch like most surgeons do, but he gave his honest opinion. I will definitely consider a transplant or hair system if the drugs stop working, but it turns out that I'm a good responder to them. I don't have to use as much Toppik as I used to, and it's getting to the point where I don't need any Toppik on some days. I used to feel embarrassed about my diffuse thinning, but now I don't. As long as my hair is clean and dry, it looks thick, even under bright lighting.

You can usually see from the sharpness and fullness of the hairline, if the texture , colour and fullness of your facial hair and the hair growing on your scalp is too great then it most likeley is. And let’s face it as we get older every cell in our bodies like our skin age as well and this includes our hair which would be more likeley to look less vibrant in colour and less thicker as we get older. It’s very rare to have youthful looking hair on someone that looks 45

While I personally don’t enjoy the way I look after removing a hair system, the work it takes to remove, clean, and reinstall it actually is my favorite part of the process. I get to clean it, shave my head, massage and itch my scalp, and moisturize it too. Feels amazing AND I get my system super clean. If I can, I’ll even go a day or so without it so my skin gets some extra exposure. But here’s the thing… you’re not really removing it before it needs to come off, you’re removing it because it has loosened in the front, back, or both and it’s time to come off anyway. It’s not a big deal at all, it’s just that time to make it all brand new again.

Great question! And the answer is yes. What I’ve found is that I sweat, the bond loosens, then when I’ve stopped sweating and cool down then the bond resets. With sweating consistently you’ll probably see that the adhesive has seeped out into the hair before it dries and sets, which may be a bit uncomfortable for you. But tape with a lace system would give you a solid chance at best results!

No matter what tey tell you my opiinion. Not ever gonna happen it is still not like your birth hairline. So i never fullu expose even with. Sorry for the delay! And I go to a barber. They’re more experienced in blending and fading. I apply the unit, he does the fade and the cut. That’s pretty much it!

I wouldn’t mind going full bald but I don’t like the shape of my head at all. Definitely want to try this out.

I've talked to some women in my age group (47) and more women say I should do it than not. I think it depends on your body type and image too. A tall, broad shouldered super masculine man might pull off a shaved head better than a hair system, because of social expectations. I've always been more more beta with a fairly petite frame so baldness doesn't suit me. Anyways I've written too much, but just wanted to share my surprise that many women are more open minded to it than we sometimes think...and I suspect much more open minded toward it than other men

Great insight here. And I completely agree. I did a video with my (now) fiancé and she says the same thing. You’ve written the perfect amount! Thank you!!

Man, don't bring up the physical stuff like that. I'm a taller dude but I'd rather wear a wig or hair system than go bald and I feel more "feminine" even though I don't swing the other way.

I would say 90 percent of women in any age group would rather have a guy with hair even if it's fake as long as she never sees you taking it off.

Thanks for the vid. Here is my intake from my own experience. For me I stopped for three primarily reasons: 1. Scalp skin was not appropriate and eventually I had some sort of an Infections spots. 2. Traveling and this makes its Mantinance difficult ( self Mantinance is not alawys ideal ) 3 being hesitant and self conscious about what if it's not probably fitted or starting to break. However, I can not dismiss how good it felt and how much of a positive impact it can have. My best advice is that people give it a go and see if it's for them.
