    Incorrect. By owning a TV and having access to other channels you inherently have access to the BBC. You have to have a license no matter what.

  • @IfISpeakBigTrouble

    @IfISpeakBigTrouble

    4 жыл бұрын

    Martiansfromthemoon literally isn’t the truth. As a recently graduated student (the biggest target for tv license spam letters) I had to research this as to not get fined the majority of my student loan. You do not have to pay your licence if you don’t watch or stream BBC content. The other channels are independently funded and don’t require a licence.

  • @Martiansfromthemoon

    @Martiansfromthemoon

    @@IfISpeakBigTrouble that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is the BBC's logic is if you own a TV and can access the other channels. You can also access BBC meaning you have to pay for a license. I'm not saying you need it to watch ITV or Channel 5. But if you are watching those channels, then you can for sure watch BBC which is all the care about

  • @IfISpeakBigTrouble

    @IfISpeakBigTrouble

    Fun fact about the British (myself included). We have November the 5th, where we celebrate the failure to overthrow the government. Why is that interesting? - well, most cultures celebrate a great revolution (independance day, Bastile day, etc etc etc). But the uk celebrates quite the opposite. It explains a lot about the British Psyche.... Another way to look at it is that we celebrate the failure of the plot that would have resulted in a great deal of death and a far-from-democratic change of government.

    +Ryan Pugh You would be thinking of the Wars of the Roses, a quite different era. Also, while GRR Martin took some parallels from this conflict (e.g. the names of Stark and Lannister: York and Lancaster), he says he was most inspired by the series of novels Le Rois maudits, which cover the 14th Century in France, the end of the Capetian dynasty and the rise of Valois; a period with a very similar feel of dynastic rivalry.

    +goofy goober Fun fact: That is because Irish still holds more to the old Gaelic than English does... and the Gaelic was formed by the Romans giving the entire UK area (called Britannia, Hibernia, etc) an alphabet, and the Britons (as the Romans called them, at least in the first century AD/CE) making up their own language, probably without allowing the Romans to help them. So, the fact that a great deal of Gaelic does not sound as it looks, is not surprising at all.

  • @andrewlwatts

    @andrewlwatts

    8 жыл бұрын

    +adrianloveslucius There's no Gaelic in English except for a handful of loan words. English is a West Germanic language, Irish is a Celtic language. They're totally separate branches of Indo-European. English developed from the languages of the Anglo-Frisian (think: Aenglish) tribes from what is now The Netherlands who came to Britain starting in the 5th century or so. And was later influenced by Scandinavian (Vikings - also Germanic) and Norman (French - Romance family speakers) invaders. The various native tribes on the islands of Britain, Ireland, Man, Guernsey, etc. had their own languages (the Celtic family) before the Romans got there. The Irish had their own runic-descended writing system (Ogham) before later picking up the Roman alphabet.

The strength and training required often resulted in skilled longbow men having disproportional muscle mass on their right arm. It sometimes even caused the shoulders to be uneven. Kind of like those joke drawings you might see about a guy who masturbates all the time, except it actually happened.

    You need a licence to watch live TV. Whether it's BBC or one of the others itv channel4 or channel 5.

    @@cholland67 It has been a couple of years since I've seen the actual wording of the TV licencing forms so may have changed, however it explicitly stated that it was for the BBC in the info pack I saw, despite all advertising suggesting otherwise. Interesting fact same info pack specified different prices depending on colour or black and white TV's. (which would suggest that it was longer ago than it was can't have been much more than 3/4 years now) Also had a section on only radio licenses, which I had no idea was a thing until then. So going into specifics everyone's TV licence is technically speaking a TV and radio license. And yeah when I get bored and have time on my hand I read shite most would ignore.

    Also by what is stated if you try and watch anything on the BBC's website. It is no longer just watching BBC live that you need a license for but anything on their website. For about a year now the website's reminded me I need a license to watch the BBC.
