Oh, same! At least in my case she had actually attended Sandy Hook, for one year, in 1994, in 2012 she lived like a thousand miles away. She was more "OMG I WENT THERE SO TRAGIC" about that than she was about the hostage situation that put all of us on lockdown in the city we were actually in or the dead body someone found outside the dorms. Like, girl, I know it's a tragedy, but it's not about YOU. I mean I think I'd be shaken if my old elementary school got shot up but I live across the country and haven't been in elementary school in decades, to me it would feel cheap and gross to be posting all about how this school shooting affected me, a person who is not a student at that school and has no connection to any student or teacher there. All these people died and you want to us to stop and pat you on the back and say "oh gosh how tragic for YOU"? I hate people like that.

YES. A friend from 5th grade was on the news decades later because she sped drunk 75 mph thru a stop sign, hitting an SUV killing a mother & her child & injuring a 3rd. My mom was freaking out, saying "oh my god it could have been you"... Like, both weird way to appropriate a tragedy and plus, WHAT? How? Lol I have never even had an accident and I don't drink. The worst part was she wanted me to feel sorry for this girl. I was going to write letters but she got out on probation and immediately went back in because she decided to violate by DRINKING! How can you pity that. No, could never be me, thanks tho Mom

This reminds me of my mom. I'm tired of this kind of life.... She never felt secure. She believes that everyone who stops in front of our house tried to do harm to us using mystical powers, even someone with an Online Taxi helmet obviously looking for the pickup point. She always find a reason to deny all the logical explanations I gave her... She never confronts the person though, just enough to annoy me. I don't want to feed her delusions, but she said that she felt alone in this and nobody supports her. So I'm in the state of dilemma right now.... I could either play along with her to give her the sense of "You're not alone" or try to snap her back to reality.

I am belated saying this but I truly feel for you. Nobody knows how hard a position this is to be in. My boyfriend constantly believes the neighbors are talking about him and anyone who looks our way is up to something. I know it's tiring for him and he never feels safe or secure. I always try to argue it logically because to me, it seems worse to validate fears that are causing him such distress. But in their mind, it's very real and perception is reality. I've worked professionally with mentally ill people and the hardest part is you have to just listen. Nothing you can say will make it better, and will only feed their anxiety and isolation. You can ask them if there's anything that would make them feel safer, suggest distractions like movies or music, but often they have to just wait it out. Don't ever feel like you need to acknowledge or deny that it's real- give an ambiguous response. "I see where you're coming from (validate her experience). I believe we are safe, but I am listening and making sure it's ok just in case." Reassure OFTEN. The simple words "it will be ok" and "I'm here, you aren't alone" should be repeated often. I don't want to make an armchair diagnosis, but these signs are substantial enough that she needs a clinical evaluation. Therapy and medication may be the only thing that will keep her from becoming a danger to herself. A therapist can work in tandem with you both to give you tools to help not only her cope but YOU cope with the stress. I hope things have gotten better and in my experience keeping the mind occupied is key for most people with paranoid delusions. Playing mobile games, doing puzzles, exercise, arts/crafts, housework, scrapbooking, listening to podcasts, needlework (preferably with familiar background music)... Etc etc etc. Sometimes, though, as agitated as it seems to make her, just understand that nobody wants to feel "crazy". She just wants to be ok. So just listening and biting your tongue (trust me I know...) without making her feel foolish may be what she needs most. Even with meds there will be bad days but trust me it can get much more manageable. I know how hard it is, you aren't alone.

@@LunarEleven Ik its late but thank you for your response. I did read somewhere about how to hande ppl with paranoia and it pretty much alignes with what u said. Mainly about giving vague responses and just listen without saying anything. Though she sometimes dislikes those vague responses because I didnt give the same judgment as she did, lets say to a person she deemed suspicious. About taking her to the theraphy, she believed that these "group of people who hated her" has a huge network pretty much everywhere (but not literally all over the world, lets say all over town) and they follow us everywhere, stalking and what we did or bought etc. And ironically she believed that their end goal is to make her go crazy. So with this, the last thing she would do is going into theraphy or any psych related clinic because that would mean those "bad people" finally won (at making her go crazy). Cuz yea ik that theraphy >< crazy and she even acknowledged this. But she doesnt want those "bad people" think they have won. Idk its just a deep rabbit hole.... and now she started thinking the neighbor besides us is always eavesdropping (she even thought they use stetoscope to listen to us, without any proof of them even owning one of course) and relaying information about our conversation to that "group of bad people". And now even in our own homes, we have to whisper when talking. Or at least most of the time.

My mom did this once, except she made it about me and my siblings. We rode the Verrückt just one week before that 10 year old boy was killed, and my mom made that horrible tradegy about us. She was all like "Oh, that could've been you guys! I should have never let you ride it!" And I was all like "Mom, stop." I just hated how a little boy had just died (at that time) and my mom was feeling guilty for letting my brother, my sister and I go on it as I'm sure that the little boy's parents felt even more guilty since he was the one who actually died on the ride.
