The fact that Argentina won the world cup dominating games and we struggle to get that many players into this team shows even hard impressive this win was for Messi and the team as a whole. Not a lot of "big players" on the squad but they played so well.

The funny thing is that Messi played both evra and Ferdinand in 2 CL finals which has been over 11 years now he was in his prime then they were also in there prime, and now in 2022 after all these years they have both retired and Messi is still in his prime and still performing at the top level and he’s making it seem like it’s normal which is not. performing at the top level for over 16 years in this sport is a rarity and he makes it look normal

Messi scored 4 penalties mbappe only 2. And as oppose to what you said mbappe was influencial against England Cos there were at least 3 English players to oversee him all the entire game. I mean I don't remember Walker attacking the entire game as well as Henderson. That's one of the reason why England loose the game. Therefore mbappe wins.

@@samiesta9996 I don't think he was terrible against Netherlands, if you can win 5/10 aerial duels against a 1.95 man and your height is 1.83 you are a beast. The defense went down because Romero was subbed off and Pezzella with 1.90 doesn't win any aerial duel and he did the fault in the 90+10.

Mbappe over Messi in this tournament is objectively wrong, lol. Mbappe may have scored one more goal, but Messi's overall goal contribution was higher. Messi was also a huge reason why the Argentina midfield was able to keep the ball as much as they did. Messi would drop deep, relieve the pressure for his teammates, and then take the ball further into the opposition half.

Theo Hernandez struggled because he had to do the defending for two people as Mbappe gets the freedom of not defending hence why he showed the least defending stats in the whole tournament . Argentina and most teams targeted that side for that reason.

Taking nothing away from Martinez but he wasnt the only reason why they won the game. He did his part to the fullest as many others in the team. He kept the team in the game by that last min save but so did Messi, Di Maria and many others. Imagine that last France penalty came before Messi’s 2nd goal. They won the game because they worked as a team

If that Argentina first non-penalty was correctly called and Not awarded, France wins 2-1 in normal time. France’s penalty in normal time was a proper penalty. Not the Argentine one.

Guys, brilliant show as always, wonderful entertainment. Rio and Ste are brilliant but love it when Uncle Pat pops in. Thank you for all your efforts gents

First of all a big shout to the Rio team for providing quality content throughout the world cup. I think the verdict should be on performance rather then the age. You can flip the script and say it's much more impressive for a defender who is in their late 30's to keep up with this high tempo football we are seeing now. We also hold players of a certain quality to a much higher standard then for example players who are "new" to the scene. Otamendi had clearly a much better world cup then Upamecano. Defensively Argentina and Morrocco were really good. I would say those two teams were the most solid. I think they conceaded the least goals. England had the upper hand against France. With better attacking options( striker or a goalscoring midfielder) Morrocco I believe based on the chances would had gone through extra time or won. France wasn't that impressive defensively as people think because they reached the final. People should check the highlights of the game again... Kind of crazy that you guys pick only three players from Argentina who end up winning the World Cup on the team of the tourmanent while France have three and two of the players were absolute shambless during the final....

Evra picking Mbappe first shows that just bc u play at the top level doesnt mean u know anything abt Football. Mans said Mbappe had 10 goals. Listen Mbappe was brilliant easily no 2 but kinda ghosted quarters semi and most of the final. Messi every game he played was best player on the pitch. Scored in every ko game and even without pens had g/a in every ko game(including 2 of the greatest assists of all time). Messi on the ball was world class as well every aspect, his leadership is underrated. In the end he lead for me maybe a top 7 team in the tournament to world cup glory for the first time in 36 years. It will go down in history for sure.

My only issue with that is that it’s part of the game and that’s like saying we can’t count layups is lebrons point total cause it’s too easy 😂. He is the forward with the least pressing rate in the whole world cup. Argentina dominated France for first 70 mins mainly because of no effort from Mbappe.

I said before the England v France game that if Sterling does not play then France would win and I was right. I said this because Sterling has proved that he is the only English player that can deliver under pressure against strong teams in the England team and until others prove it too there was no point believing they would start in that game. Before the France v Argentina final I said before the game that with Argentina already having been handed an unprecedented 4 penalties in 6 games in the world cup, if Argentina receive a 5th penalty against France to make it an unprecedented 5 penalties in 7 games that would be a consistency of bias for Argentina to help them win the world cup France did not stand a chance of playing against and I was right. What made the final exciting was for me was to watch France nearly defeat the obvious agenda to help Argentina win the world cup through biased referees. That was really exciting to watch and why I wanted France to win which they nearly did. Without the excessive penalties Argentina were handed there is no doubt in my mind Argentina would not have won the world cup. Certainly with Benzema playing, Argentina would have been easily dealt with and it is puzzling, even suspicious, why he was not as he was fit before the knock out stages started and Deschamp the manager knew it. Was he trying to throw the game? I have never seen a less convincing performance of a team that won the world cup of all the great teams that have won it and I do not remember a world cup winning team in history that would not have defeated this Argentina world cup winning team with ease. That is weird af. Some resentment against Argentina? I was delighted that Argentina won, not only did they outplay and outsmart France in the final, but they also deserved it because they have made loads of people around the world happy, way more than if France had won. France played stingy. Argentina played with all their might. Hugely fair winners.

Evra is clearly still grieving. Which is understandable. What Mbappé did in the closing 40 minutes inc extra time, was ridiculous. Been watching football since the Pelé, Best, Cruyff, Maradona, days. Never saw any of them in a world cup final, do anything like that!
