Too bad Nascar doesn't understand what Rick was saying. Driving ability has been pushed to the bottom of the priority list in favor of how much money you can bring, online popularity & how Nascar can use you for marketing purposes. If they'd get behind a female driver based on their performance on the track and not how many followers they have or how much T&A they're willing to exploit themselves with to get attention, they'd find that winner they're looking for.

I think Hailie needs her dad to be coaching her again. He always pushed her hard, didn't put up with her bullshit and always held her accountable. I think her downfall started when she turned 18 and pushed him away. I've been following along since she was 15 and I totally noticed that shortly after she turned 18 suddenly her dad was barely around for a few months and she didn't speak about him. I think they got into an argument and she told him she was grown, and for him to back off and let her live her life how she wants. When he was coaching her, he had her in the driver's seat of something.... anything..... all the time. When she was running Arca west and won two races her dad was right there pushing her hard. She used to be up at 5 am hitting the gym, training hard and focused as hell. Now she has put on a bunch of weight so clearly she is not as focused on training hard and being her best self as she used to be. I'm not saying she's fat, she's not, but she definitely is not as fit as she used to be. I think her boyfriend is a good kid, but I think he is a yes man because he doesn't want to argue or fight with her. He doesn't call her on her bullshit or hold her accountable just to keep the peace. That's just my two cents, I could be totally wrong but that's the vibe I've gotten for a long time now as a long time follower of her career.

Rick brought up an excellent point. There are several people in NASCAR that will never accept a woman in the sport. We all know one of them is Kyle Petty, and another is Jeff Burton. Hell, Burton described her, and her alone, as being "afraid" to drive faster at Iowa.

Correct but Am racing is not a development driver team. The team it’s obviously still seeing if their equipment is up to standard. If she’s a FORD driver, FORD needs to find a team that they can pump resources to develop her. Look what Toyota does to Bubba, to Bell, remember Joey coming up the ranks. Chevy did the same with Danica, Dale Jr and SHR also did the same and backed her because at the same time they knew they Danica came with big money & resources to develop her.

I could only take so much of that and left the channel but, still always hope to see her do better when I see her race. On the other hand I can't root for her brother or father because of what happened to a kid who tried to claim Haiden's bike at Lorretta Lynn's national race. Do a Google search on that story.

It has been said that Lagono said the 15-car was getting worse the longer the run and the crew chief asked if they needed to up on air pressure or down. It sounds like they were grooming a new driver and a crew chief at the same time. You need to go down on air pressure if your car is getting worse on the longer runs. Haley knows the lingo and is capable of telling the crew what she is feeling. The crew needs to know the adjustments to make.

You have to love the double standard applied to male and female drivers. How many male drivers have had careers that lasted many years in NASCAR without ever winning a race? How many of them raced for several seasons without ever being a consistent top 10 car? Fun fact: Michael Waltrip was in the Cup series for 33 years. He ran 784 races. He had 4 wins. But Hailie Deegan fails to get a win in the first half of her first season of this series, and everyone says, "See? No talent. Never should have been given a ride." Funny how they don't say that about all the male drivers who haven't won a race yet.

I'm split on this. 1- I totally understand why they are giving up on her, she simply hasn't done anything to justify keeping her around. 2- On the other hand, she's young and inexperienced. There used to be a time when drivers had the opportunity to learn and grow in a seat before a decision was made on them. Unfortunately, those times don't exist anymore, and if you don't produce in your first year, there is always the next big rookie ready to fill your seat.

Love you Rick Mast from a Fellow Virginian, What I have seen With Hailie Deegan is that in ARCA in good Equipment she was as good as the Boys, She has had a Tough time in Trucks which I think is a Different Beast with all the Wrecking in which she was taken out many times, AM Racing even though Supposedly Supported with Stewart Haas Alliance was new and needed to get kinks out, I say look at how Good she Ran Against the SRX Boys Finished 2nd to Smoke in 1 Race top 5 in several others, She can Drive when in Comparable Equipment, I say give her a Race or 2 in the Jr Motorsports 88 or Gibbs 18 or 20 Car if She Brings Sponsorship, I know the Ford Deal is A Problem but she is Racing 4 Her Career, I think she could surprise people in Top Shelf Equipment with Experienced Crew Chief. Let's Face it, The Guys do not want a Girl to Whip their Ass so they do not Drive her Clean, You can see that in alot of her wrecks they cut her no slack.

I think Hailie and her Fiance Chase should start their own race team in the Micro and Midget series as they are both good racers in that series. Although Hailie does it more as a hobby Chase tends to keep to a schedule doing it. One thing people fail to see is Hailie is extremely marketable and brings alot of sponsors to the table. AM motorsports are going to find out in a big way that losing her means losing a lot of sponsorship. I know I will catch a lot of flack for that last remark from all the La-Z-Boy race car expert drivers but I stand by it.

Nascar is a mess and while having a supportive fan base from social media helps to win most popular driver, it can't help for long until a driver starts being committed, toughens up and starts getting results that are consistent with what they say that they want. Her problem has always been to think like a winner.

I think her young personal life became a factor where she grew too fast. I believe once she started to get big with KZread, she lost focus on her real focus on her racing career. Additionally, I think she became more fearful after a big crash at a KZread Cleetus and Cars event at Bristol. She had a bad wreck during that event but also I believe that the COVID shutdown period was a factor because she lost a lot of in-car practice compared to when she was racing in lower NASCAR series, where she did so well but had a lot more track time instead of just weekends and simulator time.

My opinion on her is that she is quite aggressive on dirt where it is assumed you will wreck. Stock car racing on asphalt is another deal where if you are perceived to cause a wreck (and take out multiple cars) everyone will jump down your throat, especially if you are a lady. She only passed someone when it was an absolutely clear path. I also believe she lacked practice time and she has mentioned this multiple times. This has definitely been an influence on her poor qualifying times. I'm with Kenny too, I believe she is a racer and loves and respects racing but big-time asphalt racing may not be for her.

I grew up watching racing at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola Florida, starting in the late 60s when I was about 8 years old so I've seen a lot of great drivers most notably Rusty Wallace who owned that place whenever he showed up. I never had the money to race, but I do think after years and years of watching from the stands, you get a pretty good idea who is going to do well. In my humble opinion, I don't think the talent is there as far as Hailie Deegan is concerned, at least not at the NASCAR level, especially these days, whereas if a driver isn't improving they're not going to be around very long unless someone has very deep pockets and a willingness to stick with that driver. Kinda like GoDaddy did with Danica.

Wonder how she would do in say a JGR or HMS car with crew chief's who can read the driver and the car. Not saying she would ever get a ride there but it could totally weed out the question if its the team and equipment or has she hit a plateau and cannot excel further.

  • @kermitforseth7711

She was a middle of the pack racer in her first season at this level. This should have been expected. This could have been a decent career and she would have gotten better over the years if the team had a good crew chief, though maybe not a contender for a win every week. This should not have mattered and she should have been treated like any other middle of the pack racer. For Joey Lagano to take her seat is not a fair comparison, as Joey has always been good, and has gotten better with experience the last ten years. Her race team should have been happy with where she was at in experience and maybe another girl might have gotten an opportunity as well, making it more interesting. The Naysayers and meatheads that cut her down or claim that there are better drivers who could have her seat ... all that does not matter. It was just nice to have a girl (or two if possible) in the mix. It was good for the fans and she was better than maybe half the guys out there. Danica Patrick was also not treated well by these same negative fans, but having her in the circuit was also good for the fans and she also was better than half the guys so it does not matter that she was not a contender to win each week. If either of these girls got lapped 5 times each race, then maybe that would be a different story, if the team had provided good cars. Besides all this, her team should have been loyal for the entire season and beyond for at least 3 years. Bringing in another driver to test the quality of the cars is OK if there is any question there, but it should not have affected her place with the team. Very bad form. And to make a judgement based on a street race is bad form also, because street courses are less about the car and more about the driver and his skills at road courses. AM racing should be ashamed for shortening her tenure with them like this. Midpack racing is not always about getting the overall win but is a race within a race against other midpack drivers.

I think she should try the Michelin pilot challenge and if she is competitive there for a couple years, maybe gets a spot with their IMSA GTD pro program. If she also wins there, then maybe she gets a couple cup starts. But it’s a hill to climb in her position and I do wish her the best. She definitely has talent but definitely needs a driver coach and she’ll have way more track time in IMSA than nascar right now.

Race fans paying substantial money to attend a NASCAR race deserve to see the most talented drivers. I don't blame Hailie for racing in NASCAR. I blame ford. ford used her for publicity. That publicity has backfired. She played in the mud on 2 wheels to entertain social media too much. Mark Martin worked his ass off to become one of the most successful drivers of all time. He hit the gym, gave up the Twinkies and beer, etc. He was dead serious on what to do to succeed in NASCAR. Hailie has not shown that level of devotion. Fans deserve better. I'm not against female drivers at all. I just want to see the devotion and not just some social media popularity contest that is unrelated to racing. Hopefully, ford will learn from this.

Also she needs to disassociate with the people around her because they are putting in her head that she is better than she really is and it’s causing real problems. For example nothing is her fault it always is someone else’s. She needs the right people in arca to guide her and won’t put up with her b.s. then she will start to succeed.

She needs her dad to be coaching her again. He always pushed her hard, didn't put up with her bullshit and always held her accountable. I think her downfall started when she turned 18 and pushed him away. I've been following along since she was 15 and i totally noticed that shortly after she turned 18 her dad wasn't around for a few months, i think they got into an argument and she told him she was grown and for him to back off. When he was coaching her, he had her in the driver's seat of something, anything, all the time. When she was running Arca west and won two races her dad was right there pushing her hard. She used to be up at 5 am hitting the gym and focused. Now she put on a bunch of weight so clearly she is not as focused on training hard and being her best self. I think her boyfriend is a good kid, but I think he is a yes man because he doesn't want to argue with her, and doesn't call her on her bullshit and hold her accountable just to keep the peace. That's just my two cents, i could be totally wrong but that's the vibe I've gotten for a long time now as a long time follower of her career.

But with the next round of young talented female drivers coming up the Toyota and Chevy pipeline Hailie might get put on the back burner. Everybody feels like Jade Avedisian has a shot at being the first woman to win a race in the upper tiers of Nascar. When Jade is not racing in the midget series or the Toyota GR Cup Series, shes turning laps somewhere even if it's in a go-kart. Or she's at Toyota's TRD headquarters spending hours on a simulator. When you go on Jade's social media platforms all you see is a racing post, no pics of her posing in a bikini trying to be a model to attract fans. She's fully funded by Toyota and has a boatload of sponsors already onboard and I'm sure she will attract more as she starts racing in ARCA. Jade is like the All- American girl that will be a magnet for sponsors. Hopefully Toyota takes their time with her and lets Jade improve on her already phenomenal race craft.....

I was surprised when Brooke and Paige didn't continue as well as their cousin Nat who does limited venues. The MAJOR THING is that NO MALE wants to be "OUTSHONE" by a female, which...in today's society...is VERY chauvinistic but true. I personally have no problem with a woman "outshining" me but then that was just my upbringing. Hailie has lost that "edge" because of all of the naysayers and boo-birds that she's come across but she DOES have that DESIRE to race. She needs to QUIT listening to all of the "boos" and surround herself with PMA folks. Last year, when she was driving in that series with Schrader; Stewart; Newman; etc. was GOOD for her because she was surrounded by RACERS, NOT snot-nosed children who wants to play demolition derby instead of actually RACE their car. Years ago, the quality of racing was more of a thinking game with tracks that were more "finesse" driving instead of "groove" driving but NASCAR has all but closed off going to these places because they're losing money. I mean gosh!!!! Guys can't even "suck up" to each other anymore and how is THAT NOT racing?!?!?!?! NASCAR in GENERAL NEEDS a COMPLETE overhaul BEFORE the interest in the sport is there no more!!!! That INCLUDES MORE FEMALE; FOREIGN; & DIFFERENT ETHNIC BACKGROUNDS to race in their series WITHOUT having to settle on an inferior ride. In closing...at least Hailie NEVER lost her dignity NOR respect from other drivers around her, even THOUGH she SHOULD HAVE "BODY SLAMMED" a good MANY of them, which defines her as a RACER and NASCAR NEEDS MORE RACERS!!!!!

Good take Rick, you gotta be a good race car driver first. I don't care if they're black or female. Caitlin Clark is a good example of this, people follow her because she is an amazing baller, not because she's an attractive female. I never watched the WNBA until I hard of the NCAA all time leading scorer then I was amazed, she plays like a man. Hailie needs to step it up.
