What's Missing? 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 | Full Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

If you’re shopping for a luxury EV, you’ve got plenty of choices: the Cadillac Lyriq, Lexus RZ, Audi Q8 E-Tron, and Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV, but few of these vehicles offer everything the 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70 does. This SUV is a well-rounded package, even if it has one significant weakness.

I think what makes Hyundai/Kia/ Gensis better in the EV market is that they are giving you an EV without compromising the aspects of the car that made you like it as an ICE. Tesla doesn't give you physical controls for everything. They want you to be satisfied with a touchscreen. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis give you standard car parts mated to EV and it's more than the sum of its parts.

Exactly, which is why the interface options are a definite plus. The two dials appear very simple to me, in that the one is simply RND, so not used often, and the other an excellent interface to the car within easy reach while driving,, Also the different options may well work, if the other one breaks. The only downside is the range, and so this is perfect within that range, as long as you have another vehicle for traveling. The warranty is pretty nice as well. ( I do agree, a warm brown or ocher interior would be a nice option.)

Nice detailed review. In the past five years Genesis has won more awards than any automotive manufacturer, domestically and internationally. The press has been so positive I included Genesis in my short list (BMW X3 M40i, Audi SQ5, MB GLC43) and after a test drive in a 2022 GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige I bought it on the spot. November will be two years, I got one of the first GV70 3.5's and I would buy it again tomorrow. The EV wasn't out yet but I personally think EV's are a generation away, charging stations are way too few, and today's battery technology will be obsolete in a few years. Not sure my next vehicle will be an EV, maybe, but it will be a Genesis, they are that good.................

Electrified or ICE, GV70 is the pick of the segment.

If only Hyundai/KIA actually made enough EVs, releasing new cars like this would make sense. The waitlist for an EV6 or Ioniq 5 is over a year in Canada.

You're right! The Hyundai Motor Group's EVs are easily some of the best in the automotive industry, but they are difficult to get. I had no idea the waitlist in Canada was more than a year, though I'm not surprised. Thanks for watching and commenting! - Craig

@@richardb9591 Ah, London, Ontario… When I worked at AutoGuide, I'd occasionally have to drive to Canada. When I did, I’d ALWAYS make a pit stop at the gas station near London, shortly after where the 401 and 402 highways converge (I always entered through Sarnia). Getting a cup of coffee and a snack at that place was tradition. I’ll always remember the Husky House restaurant and gigantic Canadian flag. Thanks for commenting and I hope you enjoy your Genesis! - Craig

They should not be using the word "electrified". That word has been stained forever by those who attempt to deceive. This is a real EV and should be advertised as such.

I think Genesis has made a big mistake by eliminating heated steering wheel and Lexicon Sound sytem from the "Advanced" package, forcing you to pay the extra $6,800, or go with another manufacturer, if you want or need these features. I would have also like the option to get HUD and heated rear seats without having to go with a "Prestige" package.

*It would be fun if the Indy 500 race was turned into an electric engine-only race. How many 18-minute pit stops would they need?*

The GV70 EV is a great looking vehicle, no doubt, but it's range is way too low and it's price is simply too high. Nothing can touch the Cadillac Lyriq. It too has a gorgeous exterior and interior bit with considerably more range and all for a lower price.

I've driven both and I found the the Lyriq ride to be busy and pitchy (if that's a word ). The seats to me were more comfortable in the GV70. The Cadillac had some nice features but overall I liked the Genesis more and it was a lot quicker.

I would argue that Genesis is BETTER OFF DESIGNING EV than they are designing gas cars. Their styling is radical enough to fit the futuristic promise of EV, but doesn't really make them stand out in the ICE market because their engines are nothing special. EV eliminated the engine-transmission mating characteristics.

The problem with the EV market is two -fold. #1 PRICES ARE TOO DAMN HIGH. Once you pass $50,000, you're basically in "luxury car territory" because the interest rates effectively double your monthly payment. People talk big behind the keyboard but VERY FEW are buying these cars in cash. #2 The cars are TOO SMALL. EV Trucks offer the interior space and cargo capacity we need, but until the market gives us a full-EV truck the size of a Jeep Grand Cherokee at a price lower than $60,000, most buyers won't bite. The GV70 is about the same size as my new Cadillac Lyriq AWD. Sport 3.

The GV70 is definitely a bit more "legacy luxury." If you want a Genesis that appeals to a younger set, check out the GV60. The interior looks like Nike designed it. Here's our full review: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dYhota6weKy-mZs.html
