What's it like living on a remote island? | Auskerry, Orkney Islands

Ойын-сауық

What's it actually like, living on a remote island?
Last summer my wife Lizi and I returned to Orkney for an extended working holiday on Auskerry, the remote island where I grew up. Over the course of our stay, and this three part series, join us as we get stuck into a range of island tasks and adventures. To find out more about the sheep, and the wonderful range of wool products produced by my parents visit www.isleofauskerry.com
This is something a bit different for my channel but I really hope you enjoy this series.

Rory, how nice to meet you after watching the videos Hamash has recently made on the current happenings of Auksberry. It's also very nice to see your dad at this time, to meet his true self. Thank you for this. ...now I'll enjoy the rest of your series as I sip coffee on a chilled East Texas morning. Thank you, sir, for sharing your own perspectives of this wonderful place you call home.

What a fantastic series. I'm just sitting I'm my kitchen having a coffee watching it. 600 sheep too sheer using a pair of clippers WOW now that's some hard work. It must be hard living on the island in winter time it would be nice to see it. Thank you for sharing this video. Can't wait to see more.

What can I say that hasn’t been said already? These videos are absolutely fabulous. So professional and informative and your way of presenting isn’t one jot self-centred, as it could be, for you were brought up on Auskerry. We lived in Kirkwall for 20 years (me working at KGS) and we return every year - so to see island life portrayed in such a lovely manner is wonderful. Thank you!

Excellent video Rory as usual, there is nothing like taking a walk back in time. I'm betting when you finished school you were more then ready to stop the solitude for a while and see the world. You decided to do it from the air, good choice mate! ;-)

dick moore thank you Dick, I’m glad you enjoyed it! It’s funny really because I didn’t really see it as that solitary as a kid because it was what I was used to. I would struggle with that level of permanent solitude now but I love going back.

Must be very a very wholesome feeling to have access to this sort of life, I know it’s not without its trials as with any life but I sort of yurn for the escape from the life in south yorkshire. It can be a little bit soulless in my area but we are still well off. Not sure what i’m trying to say lol, anyway thank you for sharing.
