Idk why. Electric with a piezo sounds good, but faux acoustics with piezo and a single pickup sounds meh.

The empty plug on the PCB looks like a mini USB. They probably load the firmware on through the USB port. That also means these things could technically get a user upgradable firmware update

Gotta say austin, you played the feedback really well from the distortion. You seem more inspired with a lower tuning and some noise. Well done my man. Sounded great

I have always wanted an Acoustisonic ever since they first announced and I'm glad they have a more affordable option, so when they make a Player version of the Jazzmaster I'll get one. Also a really cool example of these guitars being put to good use is Alex Melton here on youtube, he does a lot of country versions of 2000s pop punk songs.

good thing that 9v batteries are more often than not, sold in packs of 2 or more. always a good idea to toss your fresh spares in the case with your acoustisonic or emg/fishman equipped guitars.

It's actually a pretty great idea on top of having a rechargeable just keep some fresh spares in your gig bag or whatever and always have your rechargeable going

It's strange, you'd think Trogly would be clued in to rechargeable 9V, got mine on Amazon, for pedals etc. it's a no-brainer.

In 5 years these will go for 300 bucks used. Most insane hype train since the Taylor T series. If i saw someone playing a coffee house with that I'd have second hand embarrassment.

My old man just bought an American made one, Wish i knew these were coming out earlier so he could have waited.. But he is pretty happy with his. He wanted something he could play plugged in early in the morning when he gets up, but not disturb anyone, but also didn't want something chunky like an acoustic (he gave me his Maton)

Coming from Andertons review where they ran thru an interface, and Austins where he is running thru a normal amp I gotta say... the US versions sound like they're worth the extra $800, but these don't sound like they're worth the $1,200. Tbf I haven't heard one thru a traditional acoustic amp, but these just don't sound all that great to me. Idk if that body sensor adds an extra element to the tone or what, but it sounds like a cheap full laminated acoustic. Really flat, cut mids. Idk, I think it's great that they're offering one that's " cheaper " I just think it'd be a better deal to just buy the US model.

In my opinion the Mexixan acoustasonic is Not for playing through a Tube amp. It’s for acoustic amps or playing it right through the pa. There are Reviews on KZread describing that. And they all say, it Sounds Not as good as it can be through a normal Guitar amp.

My main thought is I am very interested in the Acoustasonic instruments for their versatility and the size/feel. I've never got along with a normal acoustic guitar but like the sound and ability to play without an amp. This intrigues me in that regard and at 40% less than the MIA version, the value seems about right. If the USB port inside allows you to change the acoustic simulated sound to a different size or wood type, that would be a bonus. Count me in! The white is by far the best looking color IMO

I have the American tele acoustasonic and they look very similar (mine's in the green, though). Neckwood looks different too but that can vary so much between guitars anyway. I've got to say, I do actually like the idea of using a 9v battery over the rechargable built-in like on the American. Because at some point, after time and/or so many charge cycles, the lithium battery will need to be replaced. Doesn't look like it'd be too horrible to change it but it's not completely easy...some may not feel comfortable doing it yourself. And why oh why did Fender use the micro-usb on that pricy of a guitar instead of usb-c? So yeah, that's a big plus in this player version! Nice review!

I think that sound hole works a lot like a subwoofer port does. That’s why it’s so long and almost touches the back of the guitar. The sound hole is also smaller than the regular acoustic is. That’s because for the port to work properly the length of the port has to be proportionate to the diameter of the port. So for instance if you want a wider opening diameter for the port the depth of the port needs to be larger. Too large an opening and the port would have to be too deep. It most like has something to do with the tuning frequency they are going for and internal volume they have to work with. Just my guess. I haven’t heard anyone else talking about that aspect of the sound hole/port. Thoughts?

i liked it ! Fishman does a great Job modelling the Sound of different acoustic guitars!

I bought one of these and I love it. Even though it doesn’t have the resonator pickup, you can still do that rhythmic thing using the piezo pickup and it sounds just like it does with any other acoustic guitar.

The choice of voices on this guitar is fascinating. Position 1 is the same as position 1 from the regular Tele model, position 2 is the same as position 2 on the Jazzmaster and position 3 seems unique to this model. But it is similar to position 4 on the tele where you can blend a parlor guitar with a dreadnought. With the blend in the proper position you can get an amazing fingerpicking sound by blending just enough of the dreadnought body to fill out the parlor setting. Position 2 on the Jazzmaster is awesome so I can see why they chose it. What you're really missing here tone-wise are two things: no body sensor so no position 3 from any model, and a position that lets you blend acoustic and electric tones like position 2 on the strat and tele model. FYI, I own all three but my favorite is the Ziricote strat. The extra $1,200 buys you a lot in build quality.

I have the USA Tele and really like it a lot. Interesting that you tuned down to C#. I put 10's on mine and tuned it down to D. It's a lot easier to play and, to me, it sounds more like an acoustic than when tuned to E. I was at Sweetwater last Saturday and they really seem to be pushing the MIM one.

i know this is an older video now, but i have to talk about my experience with these. i have loved the look of the acoustasonic range since it was first announced, but i was 16 at the time, so i definitely couldn’t afford one. when the player range was announced, i was really excited to see a version that i’d actually be able to afford, with a few months of saving up, of course, but for whatever reason, i just never picked one up. however, i was at my local guitar shop the other day, and there was one hanging on the wall, so i had to give it a try. i loved it. the neck felt really nice, though i prefer slightly chunkier necks, the satin finish felt great, and while i didn’t plug it in, it sounded really nice acoustically. my only problem was the butterscotch finish looks really strange to me. i’ve got a birthday coming up soon, and i’m really tempted to pick one up in the arctic white color-way

Bought a used one in butterscotch and I got used to the color. It sounds great though, and I love the versatility.

The port labeled "P3" on the PCB board would be for the programming/debugging interface used by Fishman.

I like it .... Perfect review ...

I think it looks like a woodgrain sticker on a hunk of wood. I always use a piece of cut up tights to check for fret sprout.

Use the micro-tilt to adjust the action.

I can see why people like these guitars. I'm not one of them, but I get the appeal. $1200 is the most anyone should pay for one of these regardless of where it was made. Great, comprehensive review as always.

I love the idea of the Acoustisonics. I have a late 70's Guild Songbird Super Thin Body Acoustic Electric that I love for this body size. Would love some more of these with better finish options (American and Mexican versions both)

This tbh. I love the idea I just...can't get over how ugly they look sometimes.

I run a PCB assembly and rapid prototyping lab (not as much lately but still) and the mini usb jack is almost certainly for programming. I'm surprised they didn't use a 6 pin jtag header but its most likely to make it easier for users or techs to update if they ever needed to. A jtag header would require an external dedicated programmer which would be a pain. If I could see what DSP chip and other ICs are on there it would provide more clues. Especially if there is an FTDI chip somewhere.

USB C port is for plugging into your computer for software mods/updates

The mini usb b could be used to program macros for the tones . That's why that "plug" is there on p3.

Sounds weird but workable. With the right app settings that might work. I’m not certain the testing it in the dropped tuning is the best way for us to get a feel for it. But I could be wrong. Because, you know, it sounds kind of flubby.

Fender is going to sell a billion of these things at $1,200. The MIA version was nice but was definitely more expensive then what most of the market for that kind of guitar wanted. Even then Fender still sold a bunch of them. I think the switch to the battery was a good choice. It's a little cruder and not as fancy but definitely more practical for most gigging musicians. I wouldn't be shocked to see that change happen on the MIA models as well at some point.

Makes a lot more sense too as a rechargeable battery can only be recharged so many times and eventually needs replaced, which with these things looks like it could be a pain to do.

Best bet for the battery is to do sort of like youd do with strings. If you got regularly you might get a couple uses out of it. But nine volt batteries don't always last for to long so I'd test it before another gig or after the gig you just played. Maybe that unused connection port is the plug a midi or synthesizer. Heavier strings and you might get some of them grunting growling tones Ted Nugent used to get out of his semi hollow in distorted mode.

Don’t know if you pointed it out but my Mexican has a USA truss rod in it. Same Allen wrench I adjust my American standard with!

Thank you for the Fender Acoustic. Good for hybrid big or small, it's good to anything else but Gibson's stuff for a day.

I bought a Dave Murray sig. series which was a MIM for $1k but it was loaded with Seymour Duncan hot rails in the bridge and neck and jb junior in the middle and a Floyd Rose. It plays amazing! I never played an American fender but, I probably won’t cuz every MIM I’ve ever played plays great.

You can still buy a good acoustic and a good electric for the price of this thing.

@@spark-e The point is, it’s a great acoustic guitar option for an electric player, especially in a live setting! It’s much more comfortable to play and you have access to the entire fretboard. Conversely, it’s a great electric guitar option for the primarily acoustic player who may need an electric for a couple of songs or whatever. It’s also great for recording if you don’t have a great sounding room or decent mic. If you play solo or duo acoustic gigs, this guitar sounds better than any plugged in acoustic guitar! And at $800 to $1000 cheaper than the US version m it’s absolutely more affordable! In fact, here in Australia, it’s over $2000 cheaper! You need to open your mind more.

The acoustasonics add a depth that (to my ears, at least), is lacking on regular strats/ teles. I’d love to hear what one of these could do in the hands of Billy Gibbons.

Pretty sure that the USB on the PCB is for uploading the firmware for the DSP at the factory.

Good review. IMHO this is an electric guitar that also has an acoustical sound. Without being plugged in, it really doesn't compare with a real acoustic. However, with a good amp, this guitar performs rather well. It does fit an acoustic/electric profile, but you can get close to the same sound by buying a acoustic "slip in" pickup. All in all, not bad and the price is finally reasonable.

I have a usa stratacoustic in black with only the fishman which was $350 and has the rounded back edge fibreglass back which makes more sense financially to me

I'm more amazed by the fact that the electronic of the guitar seems to be totally analog, like all the circuits instead of being digital modeling stuff seems to be just analog cicuitry processing the pickups signal.

I think some of the better ones were MIM, you can probably get a kit to make it the $2000 one for about $200 , and you should consider your association with them, a friend of ours got one for free and one to give away as a prize, love the endoscope views , great review 😎😉 love this guitar and have so much more input, but I wanted to keep it short 😎

Use the neck tilt to adjust the string height.

To lower the action a little, why not just tilt the neck slightly? You did mention the micro-tilt adjustment.

13:10 Looks like a mini-USB connector. Maybe for loading or updating the board's firmware (if there is any)?

The boards look very similar, but they are different, even the mounting points are different, most likely on purpose so people don't swap the parts, because it's just an added cost for them to make another board. If someone had some time and a 3D printer they could probably just make a bracket to make it work and just move the input jack location which wouldn't be too difficult considering it would fit.

And one remember the Kramer Ferrington? It seems they just brought it back.

I kinda like it. If the action is a problem for you shaving the saddle is sort of basic setup stuff for a tech

The USB is most likley to update the firmware on the chip rather than an input (would probably be too slow for pickups)

Does anyone knows, if there is a possibilty to install the firmware of an USA acoustasonic on a mexican one. I know there is only three way switch and so on. But if it’s possible I want to know if there is a sound change.

Definitely I would be a buyer now at this price point.

I get serious feedback on the bottom switch option

A guy in Finland modified an American Acoustasonic Telecaster to take a 18650 3.7v rechargeable battery that was removable from the back. If Fender wanted to make these truly professional, that would have been how they came from the factory. This way you can recharge the battery from a separate charger and have more than 1 battery with you at a gig. I gig the American and I'm going to make that mod. The internal rechargeable Fishman battery is a PIA, and I've heard the Mexican ones eat the 9v, like 1 per gig. That's expensive.

I got the American Jazzmaster, keep looking up information on how one would output the humbucker to a separate Jack, I hear it all goes through circuit board for modeling, has anyone figured out where the sounds come off the board, it's likely too risky and complicated, currently I'm sending one tone through an ABY to split between my two bedroom amps, would have been cool if there was a way to output the humbucker separately, send that to the pedals or the mustang, and whichever of the other four, or eight if you consider the tone knob, to the acoustic amp.

Maybe you can adjust the action by tilting the neck. I see a hole in the neck plate, al la micro tilt.

Great review indeed ' ...I didn't like the tones at all and the resonance was fighting as the gain was increased. The 'dirty electric' tone sounds like an overdrive pedal dialed back, with all that PCB inside it wouldn't surprise me if it was, so adding distortion just makes it muddy IMO. I don't think I'm going to exchange my electric and acoustic quite just yet...

That plug that's not used is for a USB- I am betting either for testing when they build it, of if there is a way to upgrade the firmware in the controller (if it has any). The top looks like the burst is a sticker- looks cheesy to me. Maybe the white or black would be better.

What is the difference in labor wage for the exact same type of work performed in the US and Mexico? Does it really justify the price difference? I'd like to see some figures. Are workers in LA making twice as much etc?

Going to guess the USB port lets them update sounds, update firmware, possibly do diagnostics on the board if it's in for service. Or let you play directly on the internet. Hmm... "Enter password" *play 10 second riff.*

Hey, Hey fellow Troglodytes. I just watched the video of the new Epiphone Billy Joe Armstrong LP Jr. At the 2 minute mark they show a wall of guitars, check out the Surf Green Explorer hanging on the wall, very cool.

In twenty years you'll probably need to replace most of the capacitors in the electronics board. But it would still work as an acoustic guitar regardless.

Just curious: If it's a lender specifically for a review WHY would you condition the neck? And then "experiment" on the finish on the headstock? That is really, really odd to me, considering you're modifying the guitar and giving it back . . . assuming it's going to go into the hands of other reviewers? Why not return it as you got it?

Boss Katana MkII 50 Combo, acoustic setting. $250 brand new. I ran Alvarez Baritone thru, sounded like a concert hall- huge, fat, chime for days. And it's a write off. Captain Lee wouldn't steer ya' wrong. Ü

Is the electric guitar sound eq'd as if it were going through an amplifier? I would hate to send that signal to an amp.
