📚 Description: Today we are reviewing the Gibson Les Paul GT. I had a mini-heart attack when I saw this weird truss rod that used a hex key on this Gibson LP GT. Turns out... this is the exception model that you can trump people with when they say all Gibson's use a nut-style truss rod! Crazy!

I'm a car guy. 1) the GT series LP doesnt conjure GT aesthetic amongst car guys. Flames and chrome are more a Hot Rod aesthetic. Nice...but think 57 Chevy Hot August Nights at the drive in...Rockabilly. The GT SG series is more of a Grand Touring aesthetic. Racing stripes do come factory on real GT cars. Flames do not. 2) The Corvette series depicts a one year only '63 split window Stingray. That isn't the hood. That is the rear of the car where the rear stinger points backward to the rear bumper. It is a very distinct feature of a particular car made by Chevrolet that is quite rare. It is sought after by collectors. Does that make that guitar rare? I dunno. I'm a car guy. You are the guitar guy.

@@carmineredd1198 tomayto tomahto 🍅 There was a time when what we find rare and valuable in cars were just old jalopies. Am the Used Car Salesman would sell you a 5 year old Ford for $75. An extra 5 if you wanted fresh tires. A 1974 Les Paul was just another electric guitar that you might trade on the street for a pack of smokes and a Honda scooter. Now Austin trades them for thousands. Funny. Isnt it? Oh...Chevrolet spells it as one word. Ray was Stung on the flanks of the car. Two words. That's just the way it is.

I fit these Neutrik jacks on most of the guitars I build with a jack in this position. They should be fitted properly, not like this example , drilling an oversize hole , painting the body then throwing it in , it should be let in and bedded in wood filler ( if necessary ) before finishing . They also come in black and the plug can be removed with one hand thumbing the release button .

The Les Paul GT looks great but the SG GTs look badass. One thing I think would've been cool about the Les Paul is if they couldve done the binding in chrome . Next gibson needs to do GTO models . I noticed early on when you were playing that GT that it was mirroring a red tint on the inlays which made it look cool but otherwise looks cool reflecting light.

Nitro finish checks because it's such a hard finish. the expansion and contraction of the guitar causes it. The metal in the metallic finish probably conducts the heat and cold better. Right now it's actually an in thing. Ever heard of Murphy labs? Sure you have. Sometimes you pick the strangest nits. ;-)

My "new" burst has the same truss rod as your GT, which had me wondering for a while; however this guitar is definitely the real deal in every aspect. Lmao. I remember being like 12 at a guitar store and haaaaating these. Like. I loved how they looked. (There we’re more than flames I think.) But 100% the people didn’t adjust the action properly and it was like really high. Now, for an older guitarist, people judge guitars differently. But as a 13 year old, I’m pretty sure I only judged guitars based on string gauge and action lowness. If it had 9’s and a low action, I’d be like, “damn. This shreds.” Now that I’m thinking about older I’m like, “damn. This shreds. And had name brand pickups…fancy.” I do love lespauls tho. Like, as a kid, I’ve prolly drawn like 100’s of em. Has pics of em on my wall and stuff. So now I have like an epiphone studio and a shecter, both in a lespaul shape. Cuz I really just messed with the shape.

On this series there's coil splitting with individual tone and volume knobs and the Goddess series gets a single volume and tone knob. Kinda funny.

The flames should be going from the top of the body towards the tail piece. Classic hot rod flames go from the front of the car to the back. This one just looks like someone’s stood it upright in the campfire! (Or it’s being burnt at the stake!). ;)

I agree that you are right about flames on a car, but I’ve never seen a guitar with flames going any other direction than they do on this one. Fender has done several models with flames over the years.

It always makes me laugh when guitar companies try to Gender their products. Such a silly thing to do. I might understand like… travel sized kids guitars, maybe you’ve got a little girl who’s interested in guitar, but also really loves princesses or something. Or maybe you have a little boy who’s interested in princesses. So you get one of those, Walmart 3 quarter scale sparkly guitars. But honestly, Gibson never needed to do that. Plenty of male artists proudly play pink, or sparkly guitars. Plenty of female artists play tricked out, pin striped, flamed, etc guitars. It’s just not necessary. Especially on the “Goddess” series. Why do the electronics need to be simplified for female artists? I dunno. It’s just a goofy thing to do. Those Goddess guitars are really nice though! Take care!

On this ocassion Gibson have copied Dean regarding the flasmes. The Dean Evo Rockabilly has exactly the same style flames on the body. I'd prefer the Gibson though.

If you had the regular style nut on truss rod, the nut would just unscrew instead of pulling in the other direction
