The beauty of these films is that they are so easy and fun to watch. Are they gonna win any oscars? Of course not, but the purpose of movies is to allow us a chance to disconnect with the real world and enjoy a few hours of fantasy, and these films do that. They’ll never be the IJ series, but a good old fashioned, history based adventure film on a Sunday afternoon sounds like a blast to me.

Working in a college library, an Easter egg that I geeked-out over was the call number. It started with the letter Y. There no Y-numbers in the Library of Congress system; perfect for a classified designation. Kudos to the writer who knew to incorporate that detail for us book nerds. Beautiful, that the book has pages never intended to be seen in the movie. If the actors thumbed through it, or dropped a loose insert, there would be something there; no blank pages.
Adam saying he’s not interested in these films was like a dagger in my heart.

Anytime I see a porp like this in a film I always wonder if most of it is actually blank or not. It's cool to see all the detail and creativity that went into filling out the pages of this book even though they knew 99% of it would never be seen.
The book of secrets, the grail diary and the book from seven would be a great set.

I've seen a video on youtube somewhere where they interviewed the/a propmaker for the Book of Secrets. He had this amazing workshop with old materials and inks and it was just amazing to see how much he loved his work. When Adam says it smells like an old book I think it because some of the materials are antique. Gosh I just love prop books. I'm always excited to see Adam check out props cause he obviously loves them. Still unbelievably excited that he took a closer look the Moon Knight armor.
I love this. It made me go back and watch both movies. Hopefully we’ll find out what’s on page 47 one day.
Okay, no joke. National Treasure is one of my absolute favorite movies ever, Nick Cage is a treasure himself!
Tested the man who made this prop is Ross McDonald in Connecticut he specializes in paper props (books, government documents, newspapers etc) Adam should check him out his work is amazingly detailed.
What a gorgeous prop. I could spend hours flipping through something like that. Great video Adam!
There is a vibe between these two like they’ve shared a soft kiss
I loved these movies! The first movie had a good adventure.
National Treasure was one of my childhood memory, its drama, adventure and mystery is more interesting to me back then than any of Indiana Jones films.
I’m obsessed with this prop for me this is my number one movie prop of all time. I made my own copy of book many years ago. I did four months of research and then made fonts documents photos, handwritten letters different kind’s of paper photographs and put some crazy shit in history which will blow your mind like you just watched a psychological thriller. But never got a chance to print it. Because I didn’t find any professional people who are able to work on the project with the level of detail i am looking for. I need Team Savage for this kind of project.
Whew nice save. For a second there I thought you guys were gonna trash talk “National Treasure” which would be ludicrous since the movie is truly *a national treasure!*
Adam, this was great. I absolutely love the prop talk. Thank you!

Could even bring in the ben franklin specs from the first movie to explain the fact nothing was visible on it. And that was why the president asked Gates to look into the matter. Man I could watch you guys nerding over props all day.
I can appreciate the paper too. In the last couple of days, I was reading through scans of a journal from 1815 by Colin Robertson talking about his journey to the Red River Settlement under the employment of the Hudson's Bay Company. On the pages of the journal, you can clearly see the laid and chain lines, and parts of the watermark are spread across multiple pages (the sheets were cut to make the pages and bind the book). The writing technique is quite beautiful, the spelling of words is interesting (including the use of the long s in some words), and it's a really neat look at history. I learned to appreciate a lot of this stuff, in large part by learning from Adam talking about and appreciating old paper.
There have been makers who have done HUGE deep dives into this prop and replicated them. I have one and it's amazing.

I really wish I could afford this stuff, but everyone knows about these auctions now and it's just making it that much harder to participate in something this cool... :( I would give anything to have something from Indiana Jones. That book reminds me a lot of that movie.
Finally got around to seeing this one. Would of been so cool to see what was on page 47 to see if the prop had the details of what the 3rd film may be about. We still might get it sooner or later.

Absolutely nothing but the page number.
I'm not really a movie nerd by any stretch. I watch these to see happy Adam nerding out because his joy and enthusiasm is better than prozac.
That’s so awesome they actually filled it with secrets, and not just a bunch of newspaper clippings. 😆
Imagine someone finding this book 1000 to ears in the future
One of the interesting pages I have made out from this was about the water powered car aside from the alien crash that most of us can see in this video. Apparently someone had made an engine that would just make fossil fuel irrelevant, but the prototype was confiscated for private use and to protect the fuel industry. Funny to think in the context of the movie these things were true.
5:50 my book huffing habit is validated
Plot twist: It's a real book disguised as a movie prop
I, too, have a passion for paper ephemera. I can describe what I like about it, but I can't explain to you WHY I like it.
That prop is amazing.
National Treasure movies are National Treasures! I love em all. I imagine someone left clues to things somewhere I am sure of it.
Ross MacDonald is a true craftsman 👏👏👏
I have one of the scrolls from the Library of Alexandria from the treasure room in National Treasure 1. It is merely an aged cloth wrapped around a spindle to look like an ancient scroll but hey I can say I have a scroll from the Library of Alexandria and wait for the response. I believe most of the items in that treasure room beyond where the actors stood were 1/12th scale.
I have the paper ephemera thing. I've got many of the pages of Richard Croft's journal from the 2018 Tomb Raider, maps from Sicario and from Tomb Raider, but I also have antique rarities... Someone on Ebay put up a diagram for part of the 'PAVEWAY' project in the late 60's this was the first laser-guided bomb! I just had to have that....
One of my favorite props of all time.
National Treasure is one of my favorite movies!
Fun fact: Page 47 is actually blank in the acutal prop, as Ross MacDonald wanted it to be left to the viewer's imagination.
Would love to see Adam replicate this prop!

You would think that they would make 2 copies of this book specifically with the original one being in the white house and the copy of it going to the natural history museum
