What's inside the birdhouse?

I watched my birdhouse for an entire summer and never saw any birds go inside. I opened the birdhouse and startled a flying squirrel and that is what you see in the picture at the end. One year later I recorded this video and opened it more carefully and they stayed inside when I closed it.
