What's In My Camera Bag?

Фильм және анимация

There’s a lot that can be learned about a photographer by what they keep in their bag - and even the bag itself. Consider this a brief glimpse into the bowels of one photographer’s camera bag and a bit of reasoning behind the choice to carry specific pieces.

    When you placed the shotgun mic on the ground and then transitioned to the snake video. So clever. If you put it there as an "easter egg' on purpose, I loved it.

    I just ordered my Canon 100 mm macro on Friday, from B&H. I feel like a fat man, just watching and waiting for my Krispy Kreme donut after they turned on the “hot donut” sign on. I’m salivating as I wait on the lens to be delivered.

    @Ron Alvey this is quite possibly the funniest comment posted here 😝 The Canon 100mm is a terrific lens, is super forgiving and does a wonderful job of making macro photography fun - I'm sure that you'll enjoy it as much as a Canadian loves tasting a Krispy Kreme donut after a lifetime of only Tim Hortons 👍👍👍

    I have the 16-35 f2.8 II and I’m really disappointed in it. My problem is I use both the 7DII and the 5DIII and I have the Sigma 18-35 ef-s which though a smaller range at the wide side it is a far superior lens. I don’t sell my kit as I drop it so much, but I think I’ll be giving the 16-35 to my brother, in repayment for him giving me my first SLR 45 years ago. I do use the 70-200 f4 IS, but the majority of my photography is birds and that it my "birds in flight" lens on my 7DII. I also have some serious upper body difficulties and the weight matters to me. I must admit I really like my Swarovski 8x32 EL binoculars, they are nice and light and give HD resolution, the same with my ATS 65mm scope with 25-50 eyepiece. Both are really easy to use with my disabilities and because the bins are 8x magnification even I can hold them steady even on a boat. I don’t need any off road stuff but I do need a phone in case I get stuck with my disabilities, especially as my wife is hemiparuplegic and can’t go all the places my mobility scooter can. Then I get off my scooter and get into stupid situations. As such I keep all my photography apps on an old iPhone, such as trigger trap, long exposure calculator, film reciprocity rule app (I do a lot of analogue landscape photography), LightMeterW etc and I'm murder for leaving apps running killing my battery. I use a Swiss Army Knife champ, and in the 35 years I’ve had it I’ve used just about every tools, with the exception of the fish scaling thing and disgorger. Because I don’t carry any weight myself I can take more than other people and I always have my chest waders with me. Then I can knee walk into water as I can’t bend well, or lie in the snow or on wet or boggy grass. Another great video, I like how everything has its purpose and not there just for show.

    I found your video on macro photography and thoroughly enjoyed it and your other videos. Thanks for your insightful and inspiring work. I have done a lot of sports photography but enjoy landscape even more. I would like to explore macro photography and anticipate buying a Canon 100mm IS L macro lens. Some of your wide angle lens photos on your sites appear to have been taken with wider than the 16 - 35mm lens you discuss. Do you have a 11-24 mm or other wide angle lens that you use/like? Keep up your postings.

    Thanks @Jerry Niehaus 👍 I started out in the world photography as a sport shooter as well, but slowly ended up living further and further from any significant sporting events. The Canon 100mm f/2.8 L IS is an incredible lens. It's super versatile, remarkably sharp, and personally - I think it's a bargain. As for wide angle lenses; I wish I had the 11-24mm f/4.0, but until I sell a kidney I'll stick with my 16-35mm f/2.8 L II 😆😆😆

  • @neilfisher

    @neilfisher

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi @mathieu aghababian, as @F Mur mentions there are numerous dedicated macro lenses capable of producing magnifications much higher than 1:1. The Canon MP-E 65mm is the Queen of macro lenses and can deliver outstanding quality when used properly. Venus Optics Laowa manufactures a number of macro lenses of varying magnifications - they're worth checking out. It's difficult to produce magnification ratios of 2:1 and 3:1 using extension tubes without sacrificing a great deal of light and likely using two or three actual extension tubes.

    nice video, but in your bag ther is some space for you? water, food, cloths? my big problem with my back pack (I get a lowe pro trek, little bit old) there isn't any kind of room for me.

  • @neilfisher

    @neilfisher

    5 жыл бұрын

    Great question @dapa stra and something I feel most photographers don't account for when picking a bag. 😃 The load out shown in this video is what I'd typically bring for a simple day hike. While living in Saskatchewan, the weather was very consistent and predictable - there was little need for large amounts of excess clothing. Water bottles could easily be strapped to the bag's exterior. In British Columbia now, the west coast weather is seemingly impossible to accurately forecast. As such, I will usually be more selective when loading a day pack - leaving significantly more space for clothing and non-camera related kit. This somethings means using a smaller ICU or just filling the larger ICU with food and clothing. If you're unfamiliar with the F-stop Tilopa (kzread.info/dash/bejne/f4makpuLl9TXgdI.html) it's capable of carrying a surprisingly large amount gear. Hope this helps. 👍👍👍
