What's in an OP - Remembering Anohana

Фильм және анимация

[SPOILERS COMING] . Something I noticed after watching this video is that the shirts Poppo wears in the OPs seem to have forget-me-not flowers on them, with the only exception being the shirt he wears at the end of the second OP. Seems to be a great physical metaphor for him being unable to let go of the guilt he carries over what happened to Menma, and by the time we reach the end of the last OP, he was able to move on. Plus, not only is his shirt different, but the necklace he wore with the flowers from the spot where Menma died is gone in his last shot as well. Amazing to see all the little details that just go over your head when you rewatch these things. Awesome videos! Really gets me thinking about all the details animators put into their works.

The manner in which he carries out his in-close review of what would otherwise for the most part be watched mainly for its beauty, and not for the meanings behind it, is done excruciatingly well, I have to say. Props to that! He delivered every little keen detail that the animation has to offer with great precision and accuracy that it almost felt as though a literature professor was speaking, and I was sitting within the same class (or lecture as you may call it) with many other like-minded individuals, whom have all watched the same animation as me and are well informed in the Japanese culture. One of which I have to point out was the usage of the word “hikikomori,” referring to Jintan, which means “shut-in.” Keep up the good work! I just subscribed to your channel, and I’m expecting more thoroughly explained meanings from pictures from you. I mean that as in pertaining to the saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words.”

I basically only watched this analysis for the part where Tsuruko turns to look at the kids but Yukiatsu doesn't even seem to notice, only turning to see Menma; the part where the characters turn to look back at Jintan, who is against a whitescreen with Menma; and the part at the end where they indicate that Menma is still very much part of the dream past, unlike everyone else.

Thanks for this video. I know it’s a bit old and a comment like this probably won’t be seen, but it really changed me. I watched this video before I watched the anime, and after seeing the careful detail in the op’s I knew I had to see it. A little over a year and a half ago my best friend passed away. I’ve had a lot of issues with it, since he was the most important person in my life, and I really struggle with the big days(his birthday, the day he died, etc.). Immediately I felt a connection to Jintan that I haven’t felt with any other character ever. He seemed to be feeling the same things I was feeling. He loved Menma, I loved my best friend. He was a shut in who didn’t care about school or his future. I’m the same way- even if I still go to school and try to pass, I still don’t really care about how it turns out.. Watching Jintan slowly start to find closure with the rest of the super peace busters, I saw myself in all of them and their struggles with Menma’s death from so long ago. I cried almost the entire time I was watching the show and it’s helped me so much. It made me feel less stranded with my feelings of loneliness and guilt for something I couldn’t have changed, and I don’t think I would’ve found Anohana if I hadn’t seen this video first. So thank you again. You’ve helped a kid deal with some really heavy shit. (His name was Lukas by the way. He’ll be 17 April 26th of this year. I’m sure he would’ve liked your channel too, we have really similar tastes)

The thing that is strange is that Anohana seems a little cheesy. When you watch though it’s super sad

Wow! I've always loved the OP to AnoHana, and I'm big on analyzing animation (to the point where I want to make a career out of it), but I'm usually mostly paying attention to the actual content of the show. You make some great points!

Who on earth are you? How deep your consideration is! I haven't heard such a detailed explanation about the Anohana opening even in Japan. I'm really sorry that I did not understand much of what you are saying through lack of my English skills, but I understand how amazing you are.

I was just going down the list of episodes, having them play in the background while I study. Then this one comes up. I've only watched Anohana once, about three years ago. I had a hard time keeping myself from crying just from listening to and half watching the OP breakdown. Anohana was built to make me cry, and it works so well that just hearing someone talk about the OP made me tear up...

This is one of my favorite anime mostly because when i watched it not knowing the context of the story or anything about it at the time my grandma passed away and this show helped a lot for me. During that time a hold in my heart for these personal reasons and this op is something i listen to every once in a while.

For all the characters in OP 2 at 6:16, notice that none of them have the new look of the movie (Anaru without her twintails, Poppo without his necklace), so it is actually before the events of the anime.
