I'm not ashamed to admit I cried like a baby

Anohana is the best anime ever made. I've seen it dozens of times but still get moved by only a review like this. What especially touches me is Anaru's devoted love for Jintan. She finally embraces Jintan's feelings for Menma and still loves him, and in the movie she tells Tsuruko that she loves Jintan as he loves Menma as well and she believes she can confess her own feelings to him some day. There's also a ten-year-after story which was performed at the tenth anniversary in 2021 by the original cast and later became a CD drama. (Spoiler alert!!) . . . Ten years later, Anaru, now a dental hygienist, picks up Tsuruko with her car at Seibu Chichibu station and head the secret base. We learn that Tsuruko became a web designer, living around Tokyo and once she'd been with Yukiatsu but later split up, the latter moved back to Chichibu. Anaru is too embarrassed to tell Tsuruko about her own relationship with Jintan, though they're wearing identical eyeglasses by now. Sadly, the Super Peace Busters get together at their secret base for the last time since it's going to be torn down. On the spot, Jintan, Yukiatsu and Poppo are preparing for a barbecue while Jintan is looking after Poppo's two son's, Kanta and Sota. Jintan and Poppo have started a small company that works mainly as an import agency, while Yukiatsu is working for the City Hall and tells how he was among the staffs at the music fest which was the main event in the creators' last film, "Her Blue Sky". Poppo's married a foreigner girl called Stephanie he's met during his trips around the world, who has no line in the drama but according to the picture she's probably either an African or a Latino. Jintan drives Poppo's kids home where Kanta, the older, tells how he's annoyed to be called a "foreigner" just for being biracial. Jintan recalls how Menma was saying something similar when they were kids. When all arrive at the secret base again, Yukiatsu points out that Jintan and Anaru clearly look like an item despite that they don't seem to have much progress. Tsuruko tells that they've kissed when they were drunk(which only lovers do in Japan). After the barbecue they go inside the base and drink a potato "shochu"(clear liquor) which they got from a sandlot baseball player called "Mishima" (reference to the minor character from the baseball team in "The Anthem of the Heart"). Anaru goes wild and cries over the loss of Menma's memories as the secret base gets demolished and also blames Jintan that he neglects both the base and HER, but then suddenly falls asleep. Yukiatsu also claims under the influence of alcohol to prevent the demolition from behind the scenes as a City Hall staff, for Menma's sake, but the others dissuade him. Anaru seas a dream in which Menma appears reincarnated as the potato shochu she's just drunk and tells that she's not worried about the secret base since her memories are already existing in the others' hearts. Meanwhile, Jintan convinces the members about the same thing, saying that the secret base doesn't need to physically exist, it's at the place where everyone's hearts are together. As they agree on that Menma's wish has already been fulfilled, Tsuruko calls upon Jintan to fulfill Anaru's wish as well. Anaru wakes up at the very moment but pretends to be asleep for a while. Yukiatsu also remarks that he wouldn't mind reconcile with Tsuruko which she ignores but she's been concerning about Yukiatsu more than enough for the whole story. Jintan tells that when Anaru wakes up, he will ask her to marry him. Anaru gets astonished and reveals that she wasn't asleep, but of course, she's not against the idea. She also tells about the dream of Menma to which the others reply with what kinds of dreams of Menma's reincarnation they've seen. The story ends with another toast. Sorry for the long comment!

My favorite anime that ending had me sobbing like a baby

I watched anohana when the pandemic began. And after watching this recap it brought back some tears from back then

I’m surely crying becuz of this dude 😭

I watched the entire show in a rush and it still kicks like a mule esp in that final scene. That onion ninja 😢😢

This was sad but I love the story ❤️😍😔
