📚 Description: What's going on - on Reverb? Lots of really nice guitars showing up - that's what! I've noticed a lot of clean collector's grade guitars and rare models have been surfacing for high prices and selling. Sign of a market bubble - or are prices reaching points where collectors are ready to move??

Only headstock I've ever broken was on an Epiphone SG when I was 15, purely because I stupidly left it leaning against a chair and it fell. Never done it since. I'd say most serious breaks to a guitar occur due to simple carelessness.

I remember when Reverb came about. It was great as the community was almost 95% musicians. Then stores and Amazon sellers came in and it turned into a nicer looking eBay. Refund scams, broken equipment, and Reverb constantly aiding with the scammer especially with PayPal’s return policy. Once I got my rig settled I never looked back.

Anybody know something good to use to clean tolex? I have an Eric Johnson Strat that came with the Fender pro case, or wherever the hell they call them: the G&G hardshell that come they've used forever that come with the higher end American production models. It's a blonde case that was near an oil lamp, so there's soot on one side. It's not terrible like it was in a fire, just dingy. I was just going to get leather and upholstery cleaner, but thought maybe there's something that works especially well that I don't know about.

the 65 sg and the explorer are cool. i like when you can really see its age. its fixed and still working. just like with old cars. i prefer them when they have patina rather than completely renovated. because at that point it might as well have been reproduced.

It's interesting that everyone hates overlapping frets just because gibson didn't do them. Gibson didn't do them because it allows them to be sloppy on fret ends and belt sand them, and then you lose the overlap on the fret edges over binding. And as time has gone on, Gibson has decided that it's too much work to clean up their work after they run a pattern bit up the fretboard to knock the binding down after it's butted against the edges.

During the first week of January, I plan on purchasing another acoustic guitar and it will be used for recording. I prefer to use mics rather than the pickups but I'm not stuck on that. I am open-minded about purchasing a 12 string too. I only have $750.00. If I gave you 750 to buy an acoustic for me - for recording - what would you buy? What about a 12 for 750? I respect your opinion and will likely follow through with your suggestion. Or maybe you have an acoustic to sell? Thanks

@@12345b67 we worked out a deal and I ended up paying 6k for that specific guitar. for it’s condition and originality it would probably have listed in the low 7’s. basically your range on that guitar should be between 5500 and 8000, of course, depending on it’s originality and condition. in most cases the higher you go in that range the longer it’ll take to sell. there are definitely fewer buyers out there looking to spend that kind of money on one guitar, lol.

Conclusion, there are a hell of a lot of people ruining great guitars and selling them like they are BETTER than the original. But it is damage, damage, worse damage and more damage. Nice!

The ES-335 is a good deal and Lee at Grining Elk is the MOST HONEST Guitar dealer I have ever dealt with. He knows his stuff and was around in the 1980s and has owned almost ever cool Gibson guitar you can think of. If you call him and talk with him you will most likely be able to work out a deal. He NEVER buys/sells sub-par product, all his guitars are in very good to mint condition and he prices all his guitars very fair.

I'm not a collector, so I will jump on guitars that are a little banged up as long as it's structurally sound (no pun), priced right and it's a model I want. I honestly don't get people who put guitars for sale with things like missing knobs, pickguard screws, etc. Things that you can buy at a guitar center for less than $10, that without you end up losing hundreds because potential buyers just see it and say "Next," so you sit on it forever.

Agreed. That said, if any parts (hardware, etc) have been replaced, sellers should at least be upfront and transparent about.

@@carlitobrigante330 if it's relevant. Newer production models any changes are usually upgrades so they'll throw that in there. A bigger issue I've found, more now than 5 years ago is people apparently being unaware that scuffs, scratches, frets in need of crowning (or even leveling for that matter) disqualifies it from being "mint" "like new," etc. Or that the fact that you just paid to have the frets leveled doesn't mean it's worth more money, it just means it plays how it should.

Well, good quality will cost more, but Gibson's are not in that category by far, and only were until the early 70's. They have lived off their same frivolously ever since, and well, snake oil sells. (

@@Bob-of-Zoid I find that once you hit the 1500 dollar range they dont really get any better mechanically. Anything after that your paying for 10 tops and headstock logos, and legacy. I have just think prices on guitars has gotten ridiculous and the quality is the same as it was. I think if people are willing to pay it and that's what they want, it's their money. No judgement here.
