Some of the Guitar Facebook groups (Jackson is one of the worst) are almost all flippers now. Anytime anyone lets anything go at a decent price it shows back up in a few days for double.

Always remember the word mint came from the term “Mint state”. A mint is a place that makes coins. For a coin to be mint, it has to be in mint state. In other words it has to look like it just came from the mint and is uncirculated. To call a guitar mint, one would assume that the guitar looks like it did when it left the factory, unplayed and “uncirculated”. So basically lawyer guitars. Chances are, if the guitar is for sale on eBay, it’s likely not in “mint state”. If a guitar has been on reverb a few times by different sellers, it’s likely not in mint state. Shipping alone can make sure it’s no longer mint, shipping several times by different sellers only ups that possibility. So like Trogly said, don’t use the term mint (certainly don’t trust that it is mint) as it will only cause you headaches. You never know who will hold you to that standard. To be fair to that first seller tho, they did include a question mark. 😁

Now because of stupid on the internet the word is minty. (as in it's minty) give me a break.

When i end up winning an auction from eBay with a great price, the seller will message me that the guitar is already sold. Already sold, and i have to do all the work to get out of the deal... after i have paid. It seems like a can't loose for the seller and a nightmare for the buyer. It has happened twice with me.

The Gibson S1 marauder reminds me of Brian May's red special, I mean 3 single coils ( I know he has burns tri Sonics but essentially they are single coils ) the pick guard being in relatively the same shape and the arrow head head stock! I think it's pretty similar but very cool personally

That bucket head apparently didn't sell so the guy decided to relist it at 9,500. Looks like it's already sold twice but got relisted both times.

I've seen that first S-1 with original case in person at an auction a few weeks ago. It sold for $1600 and within a few days, there it is up on eBay.

The 2015 Gibson is a traditional classic abr limited edition from sam ash, and AMS were also selling them they have a true abr bridge that goes directly into the body no anchors and as for the other specs they are all normal not the 2015 wide neck and brass nut these guitars do not have that they had regular specs like every other Les Paul I have this guitar it is awesome.

I _had_ a '85 designer series Explorer, very similar to the one you showed, but with different colored pinstriping (black, silver), same pattern though. It had chrome hardware, a Kahler flyer (iirc) trem & locking nut and EMG p'ups (81/85 set) installed. Unfortunately someone broke in my house while I was at work and stole it, back in the mid 2000's. 🤬 If I ever luck out & see it anywhere, I'll know it.. It had some unique marks/blemishes on it. My dad gave me that one as a kid, starting off, but I definitely want another one someday either way! Miss that guitar. 😔

Damn those Angus Young Thunderstruck SG’s you couldn’t get more than $2500-$2700 for them a few years ago. If it was the black one with the ebony fretboard which is the most rare of them, it could easily probably fetch 5k. Angus Young SG’s in general have become very rare the last couple of years.

I had one. I thought the fretboard and lightning inlays looked and felt cheap.

The fretboard issue on the Firebird is just shadows. The last photo you showed you can see it's clean. Also the top "low E" side wouldn't have worn like that.

100% Agreed. When looking at an instrument's condition it helps to have an understanding and experience to know where wear areas occur and how. If something looks way off or unusual closer inspection is required. Like you stated, photos and shadows can play tricks with the eyes.

I bought a Tele from that ONE LEFT shady seller, senior. The bridge pickup was dead, and when I removed the bridge there were 3 sets of holes and all were sloppy and huge, the bridge was never tight until I added toothpicks and wood glue. I got 25 dollars back and it took many messages back and forth as he was barely answering me. I put a Duncan in the bridge. I did like the light semi-hollow body and the neck wasn't bad. Parts were crap.

Honestly seeing the Sam Bass Studio made me think of Tom Morello falling in love with a Budweiser Les Paul and blowtorching the finish off of it hahahaaha

I'm not Firebird you can see chunks off the edge of the guitar all the way around the area where the switch is just look where the fabric meets the edge of the guitar and you can see white all the way along there remember chips guaranteed that guitars in rough shape

That Tele has a plywood top, you can get that wood grain at Lowes and Home Depot...

Man I have a 1990 Firebird V in very good condition. Looks new! Bought it off an old hippie guy who lived on a farm way off in the woods. He kept it in its case for years. Could never bring myself to sell it. I love it too much.

You're overdue for another Rickenbacker review. 😇 I have a few ready to go: 330 in Jetglo, 350V63 in Jetglo, and for the right offer I may be convinced to sell my 370 in blueburst. I also have the Epiphone John Lennon 1965 Casino - not "Inspired By", not Elitist. This was one of the limited run of 1,965 guitars in original vintage sunburst finish - which I have - and the Revolution with the stripped finish. Sweetwater still has the specs listed. For something completely different, how about a BC Rich Chuck Schuldiner sig Stealth? All were purchased new.

An interesting guitar to review is the new/current Gittler, made of military-grade titanium. Owned mine for 6+ years and it's not for sale. If I could own only one guitar, this would be the one.

I was think of buying a Cozart Esquire prototype a few years ago but bought a pine body instead fro a guy in Sothern Illinois.

4:35 wow, if that's your birthday buy it and refinish it leaving the back of the headstock and neck alone! Factory installed birthday date would be crazy to own!

The Marauder, the guitar Paul Stanley was angry at in the 70’s.

I have one of those cozart teles. It great just had to do a set up fret polish new strings plays and sounds good.

Might get a new guitar next year.

Real bumblebee caps aren't an upgrade, they're immediate replace when I come across them repairing and restoring older electronics. They're generally awful and by now are failing. Gibson's, however, are just standard modern caps inside a bumblebee style cap casing. There are pictures of people dismantling them. Gibson is charging about 100x more than they're actually worth for them.

@@BPToneReview They may measure in range and even measure decent ESR, but the parallel series resistance (DC leakage) often ends up to the point where it simply doesn't block DC anymore. If that measure in range, then fair enough, but caps have many different tests and the actual DC leakage is often one that is forgotten about after their capacitance value and ESR so I thought I'd measure it just in case :) The ones that are simply modern caps inside older style 'housing' will be completely fine and last decades. They're just hideously overpriced for what are parts costing pennies.

@trogley Have you thought about importing more of the Japanese lawsuit guitars like Tokai, Greco Edwards, ETC. ? I think it would add some much needed variety to your show.

it pisses me off to NO END when people list their epiphones as gibsons. or, "gibson epiphone," like epiphone is the model, but it's a gibson. (i'm speaking of the lot of "gibson" parts) they do the same thing with squier guitars

Just so you guys know. Reverb changed their definition of Mint. They rolled it back. Previously they stated that it had to be unplayed and include all original packaging. Now they say that a few seconds of play is acceptable. And no reference to original packaging. That's pretty significant. I've been dinged by the "Mint" claim. Thankfully Reverb came to my defense. But to the point in the message. Mint is a word that has to be used very carefully.

Those S1’s (and Marauders etc) were $450 pawn shop guitars back in the 90’s. People are a dreaming nowadays thinking they are worth over a grand.

If I ever Buy a Nascar guitar, I would do what Tom Morello did to his Budweiser Les Paul.

I enjoyed this video very much...spend a lot of time perusing eBay and other online sites out of sheer interest and curiosity. Some of your points, like asking for a photo with a keyword on it are bang-on, and can save someone from being scammed (or at least bring validity to the product in the listing). Good stuff!

How about an episode reviewing signature guitars and autograph guitars/pick guards? I see where the authentication company should be in the exclusive business of music or sports or politics….

After being a huge NASCAR fan for many years I wouldn't be interested in anything associated with NASCAR. and no relic's, ebay is a very good place to get scammed I'm getting to where I don't want to deal on ebay anymore.

I need your professional opinion Mr. Trogly. I found a Charvel Wildcard on ebay I very much want, they're asking $1500.00 USD. Now I looked at a couple previous adds of this same model guitar in the same great condition from around 2016-ish and they were from $699.00-$799. This guitar is a rare piece, but does 5-7 years justify selling for practically double? And I know the market is high right now. But do you think spending $1500 on a Charvel that was $799 7 years ago is a bad move?

That's because guitar guys, such as Trogly think that a NASCAR guitar is "a guitar". Actually a NASCAR guitar is primarily NASCAR memorabilia, and should be marketed primarily to NASCAR fans, under the NASCAR collectibles section, not to guitar players in the musical instruments section.

@@pulaski1 Putting any brand on an instrument, especially with these ugly designs, will never be justified in the guitar world. Sure, as you said, it's more of "insert brand" memorabilia and that's where the value is at. Still doesn't change the fact that objectively speaking, it's not hard to see how these things are hard to sell *in the guitar world* of course, in the niche market of the specific brand followers and collector of memorabilia, there's an appeal and even value, especially when big brands like Gibson are behind it. But my point was that he said it as if it was a surprise that the rest of the guitar world see these instruments as a waste of materials and effort
