yeah, rn im in high school, and it sounds super interesting. psychology is interesting in general, and the psychology behind a criminal, like a mass murderer, rapist or a burglar, or a serial killer sounds much more intriguing. They seem like they'd be more complicated to understand imo. Idk, i like the idea of that being my job.

@@yazzyxx a real legit psychology book I was recommended - and still am reading - is called 'Psychology Sixth Edition' by G. Neil Martin. Psychology is really interesting. It's very professional and strict. The subject of psychology is very much so driven by its own principles and understanding of human behaviour and learning theories, applying them to the classroom, seminars and lectures. Psychology is the science of studying human behaviour, emotions and thought processes. In particular I'm studying a combined bachelor's degree between psychology and criminology. If you want to apply criminological aspects to the field of psychology I'd suggest reading Tim Newburn's book called 'Criminology' and making synoptic links. The thing is with all these books though, is that with academic material like them it's more of a guide to help you understand something you might be getting taught. So you shouldn't read them like novels but take apart bits of information that you really find interesting about the subjects. Lastly go and watch Mindfield right now on KZread. It's a fucking fantastic psychology series hosted by Micheal Stevens from Vsauce.

This is just super! I am studying criminal psychology as a subject in my security management course at diploma level. However after seeing this video I have been inspired to pursue criminal psychology as a profession. Keep it up Lawrence Miller.

absolutely facsinating! Thank you for the upload!

Human mind is a tricky thing to try figure out. We have come a long way in the mental health field in helping people with certain mental health conditions however from what I have read on this matter there are parts of the human mind that remain a total mystery. There are theories why people commit certain violent crimes in society but nothing with concrete evidence to back it up. It's mostly educated guess work. We are indeed difficult creatures to lock down into a specific mold. Everyone is unique in some aspects although they may give the appearance of similarities to others in thier individual society/culture. Just my "theory" on criminal psychology. ;)

Let us consider the psychology of the individual who believes it is the right of the State apparatus to define what is normal and abnormal and what is criminal...and let us consider the oppression that can lead to generally and in specific cases.

Love listening to this. I would enjoy being taught by him!

What books would you recommend for someone who wants to take Criminal Psychology? :D

The thing is with criminal psychology it's an amalgamation of psychology and criminology. British criminologist David Downes calls criminology a rendezvous subject. The same can be said for criminal psychology.

I'd recommend just reading a lot of scientific literature. The Mask of Sanity is something worth reading too.

Though very interested in criminal psychology, there are not very many jobs within this criteria. Though with our world there should be. :( Though self studied and college studied I will have to look into other studies. I will not go into this work, though wanting to badly. Interesting, but I doubt that my students would understand this. He talks too fast and doesn't allow time for thought.

You can pause it though.

The easiest way to manipulate people is to get them to hate you then just tell the truth at all the times they think it should be a lie, then they'll fully believe the opposite is true and be horribly wrong and completely off track the whole time. That's how easy it is for me to lie and manipulate people. I can be truthful and get them to think the wrong thing, just by having them not trust me.
