Psychopaths can mimic human emotion. They can become very good actors in order to fit in to their particular part of society. They come from all walks of life.

For all the confusion regarding Psychopathy and Sociopathy: In practice, few Forensic Psychologists use the term Sociopathy, especially in a court setting where we need to be able to assess a person's traits objectively and back up our conclusions with sound and well-established research. Unfortunately, the exact distinction between the two terms is not entirely consistent or well-defined in the research, you will actually find that even in research people may use the terms interchangeably. So even though there are arguments for Sociopathy as distinct based on etiology (the origin or development of a condition) or certain traits, the term Sociopathy remains more of a pop-culture phenomenon whereas Psychopathy traits have been researched to the point that we can objectively measure them using an instrument like the PCL-R. In Forensic practice, Psychopathy is well established as a distinct subset of APD that can help inform our clinical recommendations regarding a person's risk, intervention needs, and treatment prognosis. At the end of the day, both terms are NOT clinical and refer to people with a similar personality and behavioral presentation that would clinically be diagnosed as Antisocial Personality Disorder (APD).

I actually hate the fact that we can so causally discuss and watch the horrors these murderers have done and do. As a result, the forensic psychologist is elevated. Why? Because we have so so many murderers taking innocent victim’s lives and such actions are too common. That is a very sad fact.

Neither of them exist anymore in clinical psychology. They're both antisocial personality disorder, no psychologist recognizes either as a diagnosis and them meaning something different is just something unaware people spread on the internet.

I heard that the term 'sociopath' was something created for the courts. Apparently it was used to describe someone who had anti-social tendencies but hadn't killed anyone.
