What Really Happens to Your Body if You Die in Space
If you die in space, there is no coming home. But does your body immediately freezes and erupts into a thousand tiny particles? What does science have to say about this topic? Today we're going to explore what would actually happen to your body if you died in space.

I have bioethical concerns with this... Until we can thaw the water, explore all the way down to the magma, and prove definitively that there are absolutely no life forms on Mars whatsoever, dormant or otherwise, even at a cellular level. Until we can prove this, beyond even a shadow of a doubt, we should not attempt to colonize Mars, terraform Mars, or alter anything in the planet's potentia Boone in any way, shape, or form. Doing so could potentially cause mass extinction at a global level, of the only alien life we could ever encounter, and actually study in their natural habitat.

"Our nation is indeed fortunate that we can still draw on an immense reservoir of courage, character, and fortitude, that we are still blessed with heroes like those of the Space Shuttle Challenger. Man will continue his conquest of space. To reach out for new goals and ever-greater achievements, that is the way we shall commemorate our seven Challenger heroes." - Ronald Reagan

in summary 10 seconds of exposure to the vacuum of space would force the water in their skin and blood to vaporize, while their body expanded outward like a balloon being filled with air. Their lungs would collapse, and after 30 seconds they would be paralyzed-if they weren't already dead by this point

you missed the bubble causing braindead in a minute
The exhalation advice also works if you need to surface quickly from deeper water. Even in a protective escape suit for underwater escapes, you at least need to breathe relatively normally. Shorter inhales and longer exhales.
I've always wondered this
Love all the videos
The realization that were not truly dead until our neurons and nerves are dead, and they can't die without oxygen to allow them to decay means the brain will probably never shut down. You can potentially flow through space for thousands of years, living but unable to move or do anything
Only 3 people have died IN space, the crew of Soyuz 11. The one man on Soyuz 1 and the crews of Shuttles Challenger and Columbia all died below the recognition border of space, the Karman Line

When i think about my spirit after death, i always imagine myself as a beam of light swooshing and swirling thru space, its planets, and its moon. That is my ideal afterlife, so if i die in space, just open the hatch and let my body float away freely.
The Navy has done burials at sea for hundreds of years and there is no reason to not do the same in space. After a respectful funeral service the body would be jettisoned out an airlock. In a way the body would be a human emissary if found by aliens in a million years.

An eternity in free fall towards nothing millions of miles from any other life, any meaning, time or direction. The concept of a dead body floating alone in the infinite void forever makes my skin crawl
In old movies the usual method was similar to burial at sea. You dumped the casket containing the corpse into outer space.
Wasn't this video already posted by Infographic show a year ago?
Thanks Ill remember this if I ever die up there
18 people have died in space (that we know of) the USSR lost more cosmonauts than they let in (obviously)
Perhaps we can preserve our bodies in space in hope of being revived one day.

Why do people dislike ? It makes no sense.. Infographics is the best teacher
I seen a shirt that asked this question and instantly made me wonder which led me here
Can you please do a video about astronaut training
Did you guys ever hear of promession? A Swedish scientist thought of a process of using Liquid Nitrogen to super freeze the body in a bag, then vibrate the whole thing until it shattered to dust. leaving the bag as a kind of burial sack. The dust can then be used as fertilizer, sent back to families or stored indefinitely since it wouldn't take up much room.
I watched a few Infographics videos and my recommendations are like... 👁 👄 👁

Amen
Space is terrifying!
The skeleton in the space suite reminds me more the Rev-9 from Terminator dark fate then a human skeleton
So not that bad. In fact that's one of the most peaceful death you can ever have
You messed this one up. While the freezing wouldn't be instantaneous like in movies, the drop in temperature isn't due to radiative cooling, but rapid evaporation of water. Basically, you become freeze-dried. Not sure about the time frame, but it wouldn't be very long.
Imagine wishing upon a shooting star and it ends up being the body of some unfortunate pal.
When will the bigfoot expedition video put up It was said to be uploaded by end of july
This reminds me of the movie Titan AE.
neil degrasse tyson “The Martian. The first sci-fi movie where nobody dies”.
Movies and tv shows were meant to entertain but still have very real hidden symbolic messages in them
Nice
This way of dying wasn't so farfetched, in 1971 three Soviet cosmonauts successfully boarded Salyut 1, but when it was time to leave, the crew were exposed to the vacuum of space when their Soyuz capsule depressurized 80 mph above the surface when a check valve opened prematurely due to unknown causes, and since at the time Soyuz cosmonauts were not required to use pressure suits during liftoff and reentry, all three would die within seconds. Only when the capsule was opened a few hours later did the rescue crew realized that the entire crew was killed. Those three men would be the only men to die above the karman line(100 km), and were posthumously awarded the hero of the Soviet union at their funerals
3:00 So if you’re suddenly exposed in outer space, your body won’t explode from the change in pressure. But if you’re a saturation diver…. [Edited to correct typo.]
I've never seen any show or film that suggests you'd explode due to change in pressure.... So not sure where you got that from?
I think they should do one of two options 1) Ask the family if they want to bury at home (earth) or 2) Put the body in some sort of coffin/suit and let the body voyage thru space for eternity, especially if they are astronauts because space exploration is what they love the most.
Really stretching it to that 10 min marker i see.
