What Really Happens to Your Body if You Die in Space

If you die in space, there is no coming home. But does your body immediately freezes and erupts into a thousand tiny particles? What does science have to say about this topic? Today we're going to explore what would actually happen to your body if you died in space.

I have bioethical concerns with this... Until we can thaw the water, explore all the way down to the magma, and prove definitively that there are absolutely no life forms on Mars whatsoever, dormant or otherwise, even at a cellular level. Until we can prove this, beyond even a shadow of a doubt, we should not attempt to colonize Mars, terraform Mars, or alter anything in the planet's potentia Boone in any way, shape, or form. Doing so could potentially cause mass extinction at a global level, of the only alien life we could ever encounter, and actually study in their natural habitat.

Did you guys ever hear of promession? A Swedish scientist thought of a process of using Liquid Nitrogen to super freeze the body in a bag, then vibrate the whole thing until it shattered to dust. leaving the bag as a kind of burial sack. The dust can then be used as fertilizer, sent back to families or stored indefinitely since it wouldn't take up much room.

You messed this one up. While the freezing wouldn't be instantaneous like in movies, the drop in temperature isn't due to radiative cooling, but rapid evaporation of water. Basically, you become freeze-dried. Not sure about the time frame, but it wouldn't be very long.

This way of dying wasn't so farfetched, in 1971 three Soviet cosmonauts successfully boarded Salyut 1, but when it was time to leave, the crew were exposed to the vacuum of space when their Soyuz capsule depressurized 80 mph above the surface when a check valve opened prematurely due to unknown causes, and since at the time Soyuz cosmonauts were not required to use pressure suits during liftoff and reentry, all three would die within seconds. Only when the capsule was opened a few hours later did the rescue crew realized that the entire crew was killed. Those three men would be the only men to die above the karman line(100 km), and were posthumously awarded the hero of the Soviet union at their funerals

3:00 So if you’re suddenly exposed in outer space, your body won’t explode from the change in pressure. But if you’re a saturation diver…. [Edited to correct typo.]

I've never seen any show or film that suggests you'd explode due to change in pressure.... So not sure where you got that from?

I think they should do one of two options 1) Ask the family if they want to bury at home (earth) or 2) Put the body in some sort of coffin/suit and let the body voyage thru space for eternity, especially if they are astronauts because space exploration is what they love the most.
