Loved watching Richard Boone in this show and others. A great actor, patriot, and American.
I'm 75 years-old and I have fond memories of 'Paladin'. On my 11th birthday I received an 'Official' , Paladin cowboy hat, pistol, a gun belt and holster, along with a fake Paladin stick on Mustache. LOL!! I also remember Richard Boone starring as a doctor in the t.v. series, "Medic". It was one of my mom's favorite shows. Richard Boone and Steve McQueen ('Wanted Dead or Alive') had two very good westerns back then.

Not to mention his role in " Hombre", opposite Paul Newman, is a huge oversight
He reminds me of my late husband...strong, manly, deep commanding voice and gentle as a kitten in his heart! I still watch Have Gun Will Travel every morning...and I'm 80yr old! His stories always a a message...wish the young people of today could watch them! The would learn a lot about life!!

When I was 10 years old, Paladin ( Boone) was the guest star @ the Huntsville,TX Prison Rodeo. I met him and got an autographed "Have Gun, Will Travel" business card. I lost the card, but I never lost my love for my favorite western show.

He died from throat cancer. He lived in Saint Augustine, Florida . He taught at a College there, acting , and wrote a newspaper column. He also gave the part of HAWAII 50 , to newcomer Jack Lord, they had offered it to Boone. Boone was also a artist in paintings... He was also a true combat veteran, Pacific, Navy ,WW II. Gunner it was either dive bombers or torpedo planes, he was on several aircraft carriers that were attacked by Kamikaze Japanese suicide planes... By the way that is not his picture...
There were 3 Western style shows that kept me glued to the TV every week, Have Gun Will Travel. Richard Boone made that show his own. Then we have Bat Masterson. Another Great Classic. Last but not least, Yancy Derringer. Those were the days of GOOD TV,

My choices, exactly! Jim Bowie wasn't too bad, either. The Wyatt Earp series actually followed Wyatt's real life escapades, as much as possible.
He was a consummate actor. Not a pretty boy, but his attraction came from within, and complimented his rugged good looks. He really shined as Paladin, but he had many roles that set him apart in Hollywood. RIP sir...🌹

Always love Boone as the voice of Smaug. Have to have a DVD of " The Hobbit" so I can hear his voice. Just great.
One of my favorite actors loved his voice especially his laugh RIP !❤
Always thought HGWT was one of the best of the old westerns. Where else could you find a ruthless gunfighter(when necessary) able to quote Shakespeare or be a wine connoisseur. Very Cool dude :)

Loved the actor and his work from a very young age on . . . he sent a star-struck 6 year old boy an autographed photo in response to (my) fan letter . Mr. Boone is still. a class act !
I’m old enough to recall watching Boone’s early television series Medic as well as Have Gun Will Travel. I still occasionally watch him as Paladin on one of the oldies channels. Richard Boone was a great actor. His role as Paladin was a very different take on the western hero….an imperfect guy getting things done with at least a modicum of honor. Well done.
Remember watching this when I was a child.
It is a wonderful biography that captures facts. Truly appreciated!!

Mine as well. And a Yale man. Always liked Have Gun Will Travel. Figures Gene Roddenbery was a screenwriter for the show. That speaks volumes to me.
So he was the voice of Smaug. The power of that man’s voice was so deep and broad and rumbled so that you you felt him from your belly to your toes. I loved his show Have Gun Will Travel. He taught me what was important about a man. How you lived your life. Your code. Your honor. How you treated others with respect. He taught me so very much.
I watched the program in my youth. I loved the prolog. The bit at the beginning was thought provoking.
I’m 75 years old and I grew up with Paladin, Richard Boone was GREAT!!!🎉In Him, Arthur Schaupp 🎉
I remember watching the orignial series once Momma allowed a TV in the house. Paladin was awesome. in 02024, I'm watching the reruns and thinking that the series is still AWESOME. The TV show was more than miles ahead of the rest of the TV Westerns of the day. Paladin's looks made me think that there was hope for little ole me in terms of getting the attention of the ladies. Boone's portrayal of Paladin was mind boggling to say the least. His later roles were also pretty darned good. Heck Ramsey made my day.
He died in St Augustine Florida at Flagler hospital, he started a theater company called The Lime Light Theater, which is still in operation today..

Richard Boone was a fierce looking man, who actually had a heart of gold. He was known to want to help all his co-stars in one way or another. When actress, LISA GAYE [she guested in Have Gun Will Travel in episodes: Gun Shy and Helen of Abajinian] expressed a desire to study method acting, he offered to fund her the expenditure it would take to enroll and complete a course at Lee Strasberg's acting school in New York. Besides Westerns, he graced various roles in all genres as a character actor. I loved his menacing detective cop act in "Vicki" where he was so smitten by Jean Peters' character he literally worshipped her pictures by placing flowers and candles each day at his apartment after she was murdered. In this upload, I found sequences from Have Gun Will Travel in black & white and even color. Does this mean that the TV series has been colorized?

Always wondered what those kids were singing about in the movie "Stand by Me". Not until I was a ripe old age, did this show start airing re-runs on the 'antennae' channels, and so glad it did. Such a fun show to kick off Saturday mornings.
Richard Boone - as Mike Sweeney in The Shootist - was the second to the last bad guy that the Duke ever killed in a movie (the last bad guy that the Duke shot and killed was Pufford (Hugh O’Brien) in The Shootist. Richard Boone was an excellent actor.
Anyone else remember him as Pontius Pilate in, I believe, "King of Kings"?
I loved Paladin when I was a kid and named my dog after him. I still know the song by heart.
Wow, Paladine was ANOTHER HERO of mine. John P.
WHY ARE THERE SO MANY PICTURES OF OTHER ACTORS WHO HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH BOONE? Perhaps it would be good to mention he was decended from Daniel Boone. He had a tough time in the pacific during WWII. My favorite of his later films were THE KREMLIN LETTER, and WINTER KILLS.
@DannyWalker1963

I was wondering that as well. Especially the pic from the movie Urban Cowboy..
Hitman? No hitman! Paladin was more like a private detective. He wasn't hired to go kill men. He was always hired to solve problems. Gunplay, yes, but every western series of the day had lots of gunplay but in those days the men were honest, decent fellows who could handle gunplay if required but not necessary.
Back in the late 60s, early 70s I was a Customer Service Agent for Delta in Atlanta. Boone had a layover. People surrounded him in the main lobby, though many called him Pat. He was the nicest VIP I met. I got close and asked he would like for me to take him to the VIP room. He seemed surprised that he qualified. His question was, "Really?". Having attended college in LA, I had classes with several in the movie industry. As I said, he was the nicest. I went to graduate school in D.C. with a different type of VIP. Still, no contest.
Always really enjoyed that show, as a kid! Always wondered what happened to that actor!!!!!
Born in 55. I believe Paladin has been a major influence in the living of my life. And I believe if I was influenced that deeply, there is a generation of men who have sprinkled amongst them men who were taught morality for strong men, men who have the option of using traits that come naturally to us to dominate, but elect to use their gifts exemplifying humanity rather than for their own benefit. A good man is high praise.
His fast gun for hire.....oh boy! Such a classy Western Gentleman!
The Richard Boone Show was even better, though it only ran two seasons. I was 25 yrs old when Sorofina's Treasure aired, but I can still feel its impact.
When I was in elementary school, "Cowboys & Indians" was popular with us all. My father, a physics professor, started to play around with leatherwork. He made me a holster and gun belt for my cap pistol, and asked me what I would like on it. Of course, I had him put a chess knight on it.
Always liked any show he was in.
I grew up as a boy in Johnston and Scituate , Rhode Island. I remember the older gentleman who the television character was based upon. He dressed the part and rode horseback in local parades and events. The Knight chess piece was his logo. He actually sued and was compensated with a brand new Caddy that eventually got old and after he died his son continued to drive it around town. “Paladin” was the license plate. It was red.
Richard Boone was a good friend of my father's during WWII! He bravely flew in dive bombers as the "back seat" gunner. My father was one of the mechanics on the carrier. They drank together in Hawaii while on leave. I still have the ship journal for 1944.
"Halls of Montezuma was a mile-stone in his career.....directed by Lewis Milestone"
Still watch the reruns b 68 soon .dad watched n i remember thinkn how cool paladin was all dressed in black b.w.tv..my life was simple .now? Im old dad is passed...
I saw these back in the day but only recently realized how erudite this series was. As a kid I had no clue to the classic references but now I appreciate not just the writing but how aBoone delivered those lines.
Richard Boone had the most remarkable voice, of a deep quality that would impress any audience...
LOVING WESTERNS,since a kid, and STILL DO, 0:57 (always a Sat aftrnoon tv staple), "THE ALAMO ", was THE MOVIE,I'll (always), remember RICHARD BOONE for.(LOVED), that he followed the genre, (LIVED), by his Great Uncle DANIEL BOONE,(even if it was, as an actor), 😏👍🐎💰
Boone joined the United States Navy and served on three ships in the Pacific during World War II, seeing combat as an aviation ordnanceman, aircrewman, and tail gunner on Grumman TBF Avenger torpedo bombers, and ended his service with the rank of petty officer first class.
Always loved his sarcastic laugh.
I watch the show every morning on H&I on tv.
When I was ten yrs old, I got the guns the holster win the chess knight and the business cards for Christmas. I have pictures of me in the Black outfit. I still watch Paladin every morning today. I an 72 yrs old. Now I know where I got the funny walk I have. I walk like he did in his TV series.
Never answered the question "Whatever happened to Paladin?". It told what happened to the actor that played Paladin, but never said what happened to the character Paladin.
THE 1965 MEDIEVAL FILM...THE WARLORD...IS WORTH WATCHING JUST FOR RICHARD BOONE AS THE MINDER/PROTECTOR BORS....SO BRUTAL.....AND THE WAY HE LOOKS COMFORTING THE WOUNDED CHRYSAGON IS LIKE A MOTHER TO CHILD....

Truth be told... Paladin was highly influential to me as a young boy. I modeled myself after this gentleman tough guy who was always on the side of justice. When I broke my leg at thirteen, I made business cards that read, "Have crutch. Will travel." I'm 66 now and still today, if I see someone mistreating another, my justice meter slams into the red and I can't help but step in and break it up... using more psychology than muscle lately. Ha!

All your praise of the series and the actor is accurate. Richard Boone may have popularized that super cool-under-fire wild west hero. It was one of my favorite tv shows back in the day.

I watched this all the time, but except for the name and face I can’t remember a thing about it. I wasn’t born in its first run so I must have seen reruns. But I remember being a loyal fan.

I loved everything I ever saw with Richard Boone. Especially fond of his Palidin character. I am though somewhat disappointed in first your description of Paladin as a hitman, which he was not. And your use of so many totally Richard Boone unrelated photos in your presentation. It definitely took away from the presentation of a great actor's legacy.
I know exactly what happened to him.. He retired in Corvallis Oregon and frequently went to a bar called the Peacock, where he would sit in the back and enjoy his beer watching everything go by. Somewhat uneventful but he was content..
