As a small creator hocking my wares on MyMiniFactory, it nice to show just how much work goes into creating the minis we play with. I often get overloaded with being just a single person trying to do marketing, sculpting, supports, concept art, and all around coming up with the all the ideas myself. My choice of printer to use is what is affordable to maybe the average user, so seeing an older printer being used is also good. I chose what I did because of good experience, and the fact it was a decent price (Mars 3). Again, my decision on printer was what I had used before, price, and thinking about the average hobbyist and what they might have.

I sincerely hope this message reaches at least one STL creator turned physical product vendor. If you are not doing part separation like we have in Gundam, do not bother with plastic. Unless you're spending time and effort into making the building phase an enjoyable process that could create unique painting opportunities, I don't want it. I don't want to clunkily put together a giant lizard's head and hope there's no visible gap. Here's a better example - imagine of my chaos space marines had their gold trim as a separate part that I can paint all shiny and then snap it onto a matte armor. If you're not aiming for that, just give me the cheaper resin models I can buy hundreds of.

Great behind the scenes look, but one question went unanswered. I'd love for you to poll these titans of Worlds Beyond and find out what RESINS they use (or perhaps it's a secret blend of herbs and spices?). I saw flexibility in the video, so I'm assuming they go for sturdiness over the highly detailed-but-brittle resins like Elegoo Space Grey. But what does Archvillain use, for example? Their renders are SICK and it's difficult to get all that detail onto a bendy tough resin.

Great video! I'd say 8k is where we fully crossed the uncanny valley, where minis print exactly like the stl looks. While 6k can achieve awesome results, 8k seems to be the sweet spot for our visual acuity, where once you prime something, the layer lines are completely invisible, where 6k was a little more hit and miss on this. Now, it's about features, ease of use, and customer service.

I have an Anycubic photon mono 2k printer. I had a friend that does professional printing help me dial in my settings for the resin I use (Phrozen aqua green) so I end up with *really* nice and detailed prints. Of course you can still see layer lines if the print isn't angled properly, but other than getting a bigger machine I see no need to upgrade my machine. I've had it since 2021 and use it to print the minis I paint for competitions.

I was thinking that beyong 8K the difference would be so small it wasn't worth it but I suppose the difference between 2K and 6K are more visible. Of course for personal use 2K is largely enough, but I started selling printed minis recently and I'm considering buying a new printer for this (mostly because I need a big printing volume, but if I can get better quality as well).

Hi Ross, absolutely love your informative reviews, great work)) This is the first introduction to Sio Cast that I have seen from you,can you please do some more from that company as last I heard there was something like a 3% shrinkage to that resin material in comparison to the prototype model. I would like to know if that has been amended and if the shrinkage has an actual impact from the prototype model at actual size the miniature is to be sold at ( is it noticable ) or does the prototype model have to be printed of at a certain percentage bigger to compensate for the shrinkage in the Sio Cast resin? I love siocast as a concept so much. It should allow tons of small and medium sized companies to make a big upfront investment into their machines and then be able to produce minis in house. For some companies, COUGH COUGH CATALYST GAME LABS COUGH COUGH, it would be amazing to be able to get rapid iteration of variants and bits to customize minis without them having to pay out 20 grand to get a metal die made for an injection molding machine. It would also do some of them the huge favor of simplifying their logistics. You don't have to wait for a ship to arrive from China with your models if you make them domestically! Sure, there are still going to be price advantages to mass production and automation in injection molding but this technology is really in its infancy. This could reshape just tons of industries if it can get enough traction.

Functionally, I’m assuming that whole room of printers, naturally warms the room up A LOT. Notwithstanding the additional environmental controls. You definitely need a mask in there for the fumes unless they vent them from behind.

I'm a Titan Forge subscriber, and I bought their minis before I had a 3D printer. The SioCast resins are okay and sturdy, but nowhere near as detailed as the ones I print on an Anycubic 8k printer. So that's not the best advert to say that the 6K results are comparable.

Sorry for too many shortcuts my mind took adding poor English to the top of that masterpiece among the comments ;). At 9'11"-9'12" there are some very distinctive cookies visible 😉 I like them very much. Only more distinctive ones would be "Delicje" (Polish brand of jaffa cakes) or maybe "Jeżyki". I don't know much about the newest 3d printing devices, but I really like how you described the processes not only of printing but also the casting. I imagined their "forge" differently, but it looks efficient as hell ^_^

@@FauxHammer Tell them I wish there was a way I could compare what I already own to these bundles. I love the Giga-all in bundle. However, I think I'm going to be overlapping with some of my monthly sub from OPR. However, it is still probably a solid enough deal for all of the AV and TF minis. Also, once a year (at least I think so) OPR offers like 70% off for members, maybe I should wait. However, my Saturn 4 ultra will be here in June (upgraded from Saturn 2) so I'm going to need to put it through its paces. Lol, I went the STL/Printing route to save money over GamesWorkshop. Which of course I am, hell I dont think you can buy 2 combat patrol boxes for the price of giga. bah, anyway. Keep up the good work Foxhammer! ;p

    1) seen a lot of siocast broll in intro, after working with some of siocast minis from infinity.... i dislike it more than working with resin. Its like combining worst things from all words (resin, gw hips and infinity metal). Shaves like metal, doesnt play at all with plastic glue like metal and resin, details is similar or bit worse than resin, metal or gw hips. 2)CuStOdEs ArEnT sPaCe MaRiNeS 3) Why i dont use anycubic? Because i got elegoo first and now while ive been biten by this hobby bug again im taking care of what i print and from who, and atlass 3dss who support most of the models im getting use elegoo machines. Id argue that brand preference comes only to personal taste and what you got at first, otherwise they are EQUAL right now. At least till someone leaves chitu board system for something that would provide proper upgrade over current rectangular pixels. 4) GOOD JOB MMF FOR SCREWING UP THIS CAMPAIGN with timely "sheulded maintenence" (obligatory /s if someone doest read it as such, mmf is nice thing in hobby space but their quality and performance of frontend is..... SHIT. no other words can describe UX of using their "new improved" site) 5) Loved material, usualy i just listen it in the background on 2nd screen so if i hear something nice ill glance over. Keep your work coming (even if i cannot agree with some statements)!

Nobody in the hobby needs higher resolution printers. What we need is better post processing pipelines, better auto supports features, faster print times and less hazardous material manipulation/inhalation. But I suspect the truth is, it's much faster to cram a better LCD into a printer and call it a new improved model than actually putting a ton of time and money into R&D for more necessary stuff...

@@FauxHammer Yeah, I do get that. I'm not knocking other's hobbies. Whatever floats your boat, as they say. For me, 3D printing is all about designing and printing functional, useful parts that I can use in everyday life, particularly for my home automation stuff. I mainly watch your channel for the tech side of things, new printer reviews, etc. This episode doesn't advance my "hobby" but I understand that it is just the ticket for many others.
