what NOT to bring to japan ❌ moving to teach english, jet program
Hey guys! Today I'm going over what NOT to bring to Japan when you're moving over! This is specifically in regards to ALTs on the JET program, but really a lot of these are more general. These things skew towards women as well because...I'm a woman 😳
Seriously, I threw away most of the contents of my suitcases and am now living in a 50% UNIQLO wardrobe 💀 So many regrets. So many things I WISH!!! I had brought!!! Watch my next video to see those....so...so...many...

For the clothes it's completely random and up to your school. Some people go to work in a graphic t and jeans and some wear full out suits. You want a mixture of half business attire and work casual and then just lay back clothes to be safe. It also depends on the location.
Your energy is so chaotic in this video - I love it! The beginning made me laugh so much

this is so helpful. I'ma plus sized black woman and I'm definitely worried about things like this when I move out.
Oh my goodness this is so exciting! This is my first episode and you are so weird lol (to me I find it cool) plus I'm in Florida too!! Can't wait to watch more and who knows I might meet you!

Informative and entertaining, thank you for posting this. I enjoy your videos.
I agree about the sandals! And as a plus size ALT I should’ve brought a 3rd suitcase, Ive had to buy men’s clothing 😢

Not many fat people in Japan, innit
the m&m story. I lol'd!
Thank you so much for this video. I wanted to ask if you know of the company Joytalk as it has sent me an employee offer to start in April this year. And they noted that I will be allowed to travel to Japan as an essential worker for public schools, did you have to use that as well?
very helpful!!
I'm here as a student in Kyoto city, and I still haven't worn any of the sleeveless clothes I brought with me lol. I also brought a lot of short skirts, and here I pretty much always wear them with full tights. I'm coming from Jamaica where it was always blazing hot, so most of my clothes aren't "modest" by Japanese standards.

That's interesting. I wore sleeveless tops all the time (at work I wore a blazer) and showed everyone my arms 😂. Couldn't wear shorts for the first year though. I'm from Kenya and anything above your knees was reserved for prostitutes. Needless to say years later I start rocking short shorts. Summer was just unbearable 😭.

@AllisoninTokyo Oh my, that Disney sweater though! Did you get it in Tokyo Disneyland or Disney Sea? So precious!
What did you wear if not skirts/dresses or jeans? I don’t have any luck with trousers fitting me well in my home country let alone Japan lol.

80% of the time black jeggings from Uniqlo 😂 I too have garbage luck with pants, but these were the most comfortable that met the dress code. Of course anything business casual would work, and at elementary schools you can wear sweat pants haha
Oh lordy, I packed so many shoes, tights, and clothes when I came. Paid for the extra suitcases. Then basically never used them because Uni-Qlo and GU are amazing. Ended up throwing a fair amount away, and shipping the rest back home just in-case I need them at some point xD Imagine the money I wasted.
Hi! I´m worried about winter because I´m from Brazil and I never saw snow. And u talked about Uniqlo so: do you know uniqlo hight heat tecnology clothes? Do they work? :)

It does! I think the lightest (and cheapest) level 1 doesn't do too much (good for fall/spring), but level 2 and level 3 are powerful 😂

@@AllisoninTokyo Thanks!! I plan to buy it when I get there.
Ahh! I'm going to be in high school in a somewhat rural area and I love wearing jeans I am so sad now.
thank you for your tips
Can skirts be a bit shorter (but not crazy short) if you wear like opaque tights underneath?
@AllisoninTokyo

For daily life, sure! For school mayyybe not. I would say as long as it's at least around your knee area you'll be fine! Some will be stricter, and some won't care as much! The tights will definitely make it more acceptable though since most women here wear them still!

Nice !!! And ur so cute 😍❤️
Allison you’re so cute!!
Can I wear a dress/skirt above the knee if I wear tights underneath it?
@AllisoninTokyo

if it’s like barely above the knee then maybeeeee 😬 it’s a hard call, but i’d be prepared not to just in case!
Very accurate
Teacher!!!
wait why can't you wear jeans to school? 😭
if they climb up under you just kick them away.
Would black jeans be okay?
@AllisoninTokyo

If they look like denim then I'd say no, but if they look more like anonymous black pants then they're probably fine! I owned 2 pairs of these black Uniqlo jegging things and wore those basically every day 😅
覚えておかなければなりません😂
would JTEs reprimand if you wear dresses that are higher than your knees
@AllisoninTokyo

Hmmmmmm honestly probably 😅 If it's like somewhere in your general knee area then it's probably fine (depends on the school of course), but if it's more than a few centimeters above it then it's probably too short for schools here 😭
I'm a male hmm I guess I'll be OK
today I learned; we are the same height :o
*is pointing directly at the shoulder* NO 😤 it’s the fat arm area place
Uniqulo is for peasants!!!
