As someone who’s from Ecuador, I might be biased, but caicedo isn’t a true cdm. He works best doing less defensive work but still will drop back to recover. For Ecuador he doesn’t play defensive mid and every game you see he is night and day better than the other midfielders he plays. Maybe with Lavia he will work best but he’s still class.

In many ways I think he is a very similar type of player to Kanté, who was at his best alongside a holding player with decent ability on the ball, like Matić at Chelsea or alongside Drinkwater at Leicester

On point about caicedo

One thing im loving about caicedo's game recently is he's making more smart challenges where he's not just getting a card in the first half which essentially reduced his effectiveness as he had to stay careful for the rest of the game. I'd love to see him start developing his long ball capabilities and start looking at the offensive end going forward as our wingers tend to always look for a pass in the middle of the box but usually nobody appears to be there. He certainly has shown he can strike a ball quite well if given the chance.

It’s funny, I felt like Caicedo hasn’t been great but I’ve realised, it’s not his fault. But I think like what I’ve originally stated, the midfield pairing was shambolic. Just like you said Caicedo has to do a lot of covering for Enzo and when it goes wrong, we blame Caicedo unfairly. We use build up play and our 6’s are more like 8’s, we’re not really cutting the lines. The problem we face is to suit Enzo profile we would have to play a 4-3-3 and use him as a lone 6 DLP. But then you remove the 10 position, and the amount of good attacking/creative players we have won’t get a chance. Then you throw in the problem, if Enzo gets injured who fits that role? Then the whole system is nullified. So it’s either you adjust the system to suit the player or adapt the player to the system.

His final third passing is quite underrated. I don't think he is not good in attack, he just needs to cover the back as the CB doesn't look solid. Wait for all the injured players back on the pitch, and then we will see the best of Caicedo and the best whole team squad.

Quick recovery for enzo he has been one of our shinning stars

I will lose it if we sign another CM. We have easily spent 300m+ on Caicedo, Enzo, Lavia, Ugochukwu, and we already have Gallagher. I'm not see how some Chelsea fans are honestly asking for 3-4 big signings... when we already have a surplus of young players that need to develop chemistry and settle into their roles.

Caicedo has been unfairly criticized all season long and while he's put a couple of stinkers like the backwards pass against Man United, he's been absolutely solid, putting his body on the line over and over and over again after long flights from South America, you could see he was barely walking, but he was running for the badge during the games. In an ideal world, we would have a DM and Caicedo would be free to play in the Kante role and press forward. To be honest, from the two 100+ Million transfers in midfield, I think Caicedo is the much better one. With Enzo, he's not been consistent enough going forward or giving defense unlocking passes, while being a bigger liability on defense, because he is slower than Caicedo and can't recover if he is caught out of posession. Next year, with Lavia hopefully coming back and Palmer in the 10, I honestly don't see Enzo starting if those three are fit.

Believe Caicedo is more skilled than Enzo in every category, including all types of passing and finishing. Even considering the hernia, it's possible another league with slower, less physical play would be better for Enzo, and that one of a half-dozen young midfielders we have (sadly undeveloped this year) would be a better overall team fit for Chelsea along with our most important player aside from Palmer -- Caicedo.

Gallagher & Sterling are our most prized assets in our squad. Their unmatched technical ability and English worthiness make them sure starters for all games under Poch so much so that whatever players like Caicedo / Enzo / Gusto or any other player do they are never appreciated as much as Gallagher who basically does aimless pressing almost all game

Kendry Paez is the one who will be Caicedo companion in next season...

Caicedo and Enzo is the solution with Palmer as the 10. Watch the Middlesbrough match. The only way this partnership works long-term is if we play with with a back 3. Playing with only 2 CB's and this pivot is a recipe for disaster defensively because Caicedo is the only one defensively competent in that pivot.

BUT I’ve played with a hernia and with those injections and they can take away some of the pain they can make it bearable to play, but it absolutely affects your quickness your mobility. You’re constantly worried about tearing it more. We have no idea how much ground Enzo can cover and how he can play without the hernia being an issue because he’s had the entire time at Chelsea, so you can’t rule him out of that position either

We definitely still need a new backup midfielder with experience. Only three players are not enough for the whole season. (Lavia seems injured quite badly and need time to fit into the system, Lesley is not ready imo) I think next season we should rotate with Gallagher, Caicedo, Enzo, Andrey Santos (yes he is the most matured new prospect in our squad) and a tall midfielder who can be the commander on the pitch. Yeah we need players like palhinha but he could be very expensive tho

Yup, because the squad is never complete(players always get injured), then some players are overused, until tired. Especially Enzo and Caicedo. When the team does not have enough players for rotation, the other players straight look like a guaranteed spot. Nobody challenges them and the team won't grow fast, also without many experienced players in the squad.

I don't think the midfield situation is a major dilemma but it is something that has to be worked out. So much talent available in the squad. Time is needed for these players to mesh and find that right balance and "perfect" pairing. Gallagher invaluable and works with anyone, I think. Lavia will be interesting to see in the squad. Enzo is special and has a lot to offer. Caicedo is solid all around when in form. Once this team is back in regular European comps we're gonna need them all. YESGUYS COYB

At the end of the Everton game the first thought that popped in my head was if Enzo has been holding this team back. I didn't want to be negative, but I'm glad I wasn't the only one that sort of thought this way. Honestly, I hope Poch keeps the lineup the way it is, and if Enzo is hurt then shut him down the rest of the way.

Are you a clown. The reason Caicedo played so good against everton was a proper 10 in palmer. Because palmer operates mostly in the middle of the pitch the two pivot mid fielders can sit deeper and closer together. When Gallagher is all over the pitch the 10 spot is mostly vacant that forces Enzo to push up and fill that spot leaving Caicedo on his own and out numbered. Gallagher in the 10 destabilize the whole team. He is not a 10

I said almost exactly the same thing about Caicedo and Enzo on YTF earlier in the week.

Caicedo played really well along side Conor, so if Enzo's not fit for the City match, it might be a blessing in disguise! In any case, Caicedo's only 22 and Enzo's 23, so they're still quite young...the Chelsea project is long-term and maybe that's why we didn't bid for 25-year-old Rice! As I've always said, we need a couple of seasons to settle! We can beat City if we show up, and that's with or without Enzo.

I think we’ve seen a lot of great play from Palmer at cam, nkunku plays there as well, pushing Palmer to rw. Where would enzo or Gallagher fit if lavia or a new player is the solution? Chelsea will need a 4-2-3-1 to fit all these players

He’s just lost a bit of form at times but he’s been one of our best players this season. I think we’re too defensive with Gallagher and he’s the one to make way. Play Palmer in the 10 role and use our wingers

There's a bunch of Chelsea Tubers who are constantly trying to 'define' Conor Gallagher. I'm starting to think they're all Conor Gallagher hate-baiters opportunistically using the fact that he divides opinion in order to get views. I would like to remind my fellow Chelsea fans that Conor has gone through a very rapid developmental journey this season. He worked his arse off close-season to make himself physically stronger. He was pretty dreadful preseason. Poch stuck with him and not only did he earn his place in the starting 11 but his stats showed that he was actually doing the work of the other two midfielders as well has his own. He then took on leadership responsibilities. His haters still weren't happy, they complained about him not getting enough goals (which of course he wasn't because he was busy covering everyone else's arse). Then he turned that around and started to get goals. So then his haters said he's not creative enough, then he started to get assists. Then his haters said he couldn't play in a double pivot. Now CG has proved them wrong about that as well.. My point is Conor is on a journey. We still don't yet know how good he is going to be, but his stats are already absolutely insane and he is still rising to every challenge. And guess what, he is fit and actually on the pitch. There's a lot to be said for that specially given our season-long injury crisis. Please ignore these Conor Gallagher 'hate-baiters'. When we have 3 midfielders who are good enough to keep him out of the team, we will be challenging for the title. Even then I think Conor could turn out to be the best left back in the squad. BTW: I once said that CG was the worst player I'd ever seen playing for the academy (how wrong was I?). Last season I said the same thing about Frankie Runham after watching him get creamed by Cambridge United. I've got big time déjà vu.

Brother, I usually always agree with you. The success has been when Enzo and Caicedo stay close to eachother. Neither of them are very quick ... think the 3 mids during the winning euros of Italy a couple seasons ago... 3 immobile mids staying close in Veratti, Jorgi and B... This is Everton we are talking about... Low block no creativity possibly the only team in Europe who doesnt build from the back Everton. Enzo is a low lying dicator of play similar to what Pirlo was, Gallagher does not check his shoulder so his running gets negated by this due to the slow in play it creates. Caicedo has the the final third weighted pass in, enzo has the deep lying never lose the ball build from the back ability and play palmer in ahead of them and have conor come off the bench as a super sub and energy. Lastly, Enzo would have about 20 assists if players could finish and we would be praising him as signing of the year. Do not let one Everton match let you remove Enzo by a Palmer performance...This is kind of unbelievable.

Is not a really good pairing. Enzo will be the best key on this. And also, we have enough options, as Santos, Casadei, Uguchukwu, and Lavia all are quite good young talents, two have been injured and two haven't been given time to go. But of course, Rice is a great player that is never in doubt. On the paper is really looks nice (Rice-Caicedo), but in fact, Rice doesn't suit the team profile. That's why the board isn't planning to get him and focus Caicedo instead.

Keep in mind that when Joe shields was being brought on, he demanded that we target to former city Academy players. Felt very strongly about it, but of the two he actually felt Romeo Lavia was the higher priority to call Palmer. That should say something if we can keep him healthy. Even in the 30 minutes he got to play. He looked great.

Caicedo and Enzo could have gone to any club and they chose to come toChelsea. The fact that we are having a conversation about Gallagher being in this midfield next season is ridiculous. Gallagher is a bench option at best. Enzo could be playing at Real Madrid right now and everyone would be saying how much we need a player like him. Once Lavia is fit and healthy, we can rotate along with Enzo and Caicedo. Hopefully Andrey Santos can even be in the squad next season as well for other midfield options. People keep talking about Gallagher being our best midfielder and he isn't. He is the same player he is when he was at Palace

Cole Palmer has been great for Chelsea and is clearly Chelsea POTY. He is probably PFA YPOTY. But we need to calm down with the Ballon d’Or contention talk. If Palmer/Mudryk play in the middle, Enzo/Lavia-Caicedo in double pivot, where Gallagher to play? on the bench? he is too good on the bench, and he is the only captain injury-free and always available for selection. @@chelseafctbil3239 And who says that it should be sold or always spent on the bench? That's why there is ROTATION between players (Enzo+caicedo+Palmer) or (Gallagher+caicedo+Palmer) and even more take advantage of it because Enzo is going to be out due to his injury

@@Nlm4794 Not saying your opinion is wrong. That's our view, yet the board think differently. Poch like Gallagher so much cause his contribution on the pitch is high, plus, he is a captain and the only captain. If think of full squad, we don't the good wingers on left and right. Move Palmer to the middle, Gallagher on the bench wasted and right/left wing become weak.

For me Gallagher was under estimated in his role both on and off the ball I think he should stay at the club and play this partnership against City to see if it works. Palmer at the CAM role, he was sublime. Even we had a clean sheet I think the defence needs tightening up against the big teams. Everton had chance I feel City would put away. But overall the defence looked good. Looking to next season some decisions will have to be made on players not pulling their weight who we can attract to the club, I like Paulina at Fulham as well but the priority has to be a decent striker. Some hard decisions need to be made about players getting injured all the time. I think Reece is a brilliant player when fit and if his surgery has been seen to work we have the right side sorted with Gusto and James maybe a youngster too who can learn off these two. But if the surgery hasn't worked and there are teams that want to buy him then it should be considered providing the money is spent in getting a good replacement.

Think it’s pochs fault for Enzo misuse. Enzo was great last year, ever since playing under poch he hasn’t looked the same.

Ive bene saying enzo should play in the 10 with either conor or lavia with cacideo. Palmer is def best in the 10 but hes still our best player even on the wing. Tbis way def gets the best use of of our best players

Here's a few more.....Just like Lavia, Caicedo arrived with an injury so he's been playing through that..Pep Guardiolas City absolutely WOULD NOT play at/towards Caicedo..go back and watch the footage. I believe if we dont already, CFC will have the most controlling PL midfield but I too would like to see a healthy Lavia - Caicedo partnership with a little bit of Nkunku or better yet a truly creative attacking midfielder in Kendry Paez......Can't wait...The futures so bright I gotta wear shades

If Enzo has had a hernia maybe that's why we've lacked a little bit due to him not being fully fit. Gallagher and Caicedo are both fit so that's why we had better control. The Everton game shows it. We had no issues for most of the game.

I don't think we need to invest in another midfielder...Lavia and Casadei are enough even if Conor is eventually sold, which I don't think's gonna happen. The question is, do we bring Maatsen back next season? He's been great for Dortmund! He'd definitely fetch a good price if we sold him, but I'd keep him out on loan at Dortmund for another season, let him develop there, and stick with Cilly and Cucurella for now. Maatsen's only 22, so he'll replace one of them eventually.

I think that Galager was also recovering wery bad when he plays forward, maybe even worse than Enzo. The problem is rest defence not the players.

Instead of using Gallagher as a 10 if we use 3 midfielders Gallagher caisedo Enzo then we use our wingers to drift in on 10 role. So we gat two CM and one DCM just like that

It doesn't have to always be a pivot........ It can be a midfield 3 of Enzo caicedo and lavia

Surely the vision has to be a 3 man midfield of Lavia, Enzo and Caicedo with the ability to also pair any two in a pivot depending on opposition. If you put Gallagher next to Enzo (i.e Liverpool first day of the season) you see the best of Enzo, because Con is doing all the leg work. I think this season we have had to depend on Caicedo and Enzo in CM all the time due to injuries but occasionally it hasn't worked, other times it has. It depends on the opposition and how they set up.
