As an electrician’s apprentice i was fortunate enough to work with excellent mentors. My Journeymen teachers taught me that the more knowledge of skills that they could pass on to me would ultimately benefit them and our team in the end. As a result I adopted that edict when training others below me.

My second week in, and my journeyman is so rough on me. He’s threatening to throw me on trimming with the slow guys. Every time i try to take my time and do it right, and analyze things before im done he see’s that and always makes me move out the way or get off the ladder . I am trying very hard, but it is bringing me alot of emotional stress working with someone who doesn’t like training. I show up early, i can wire up boxes by my self, but struggle with pulling anything up high. Not sure which route to go or which way to strap. I ask questions and he’s often criticizing me within my answer. I’m scared that im not cut out for this. Other apprentices tell me im doing great, but i feel like such an inconvenience.

Being a good teacher is a skill on its own. Don't let someone's lack of patience discourage you. If you have any major questions ask your master. Bend your knees and power through the first year.

I’m curious what your hourly rate was as an apprentice early on and then what it scaled to. I make 100k a year and am thinking of switching careers. Really struggling to figure out if I can make the same kind of money after putting in several years as an electrician after the apprenticeship. Thoughts? Maybe a video on pay from when you started to what your pay is now and what you can potentially make as a long term electrician.
