    Basically you're working unlivable wage compensated by long hours/overtime first 3 years. IF you don't burn out and continue with the trade - you might see the light of the day. It's absolutely bananas to pay that low for such work to apprentices. Many companies run their apprentices into the ground, squeeze the most out of them, so be prepared and focus on your end goals! Best of luck and blessings to all of us.

    Please go do a trade, get 2 tickets, you are hearing this from someone who did has a degree and diploma... it serves me no purpose, just hangs on the wall and collects dust... I wasted time and money, I wish I can go back, I would have been in the construction industry hands down

    Opening my eyes a bit, if you work 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, no days missed, you only clock 2080 hours a year. At least you make it through the first term and you get that year increase but sheesh. If you want it, you gotta work for it.

    I had 6 months of automotive electrical school and that training and knowledge has made my life easier as an electrician! Knowing and understanding how electricity works makes my job easier. I’ve had good and bad experiences working with union electricians. It seems to me the union mentality is changing where I work. Most of the folks I have worked with wanted to work and be efficient. There was two or three guys that had the old mentality, sleeping in the corner, saying I already ran my quota today! Ran into that 15 years ago and soured me forever about union electricians. I know that probably isn’t the norm, but that was my experience. I make pretty good money, but benefits are nowhere near as good.

    i read your comment entirely. quick question for u brother. do you regret going to school? would you recommend the 1 year electrical techniques program? would appreciate your time

  • @sparkys406coins3

    @sparkys406coins3

    @Mohdzn not sure what the 1 year electrical techniques school is, but any schooling (on or off the job) would be beneficial. In Montana, the apprentice program folks are doing an accelerated program where the school is done in 2 years, not 4 as it's been for a Tradesman. There are still the 8,000 hours on the job required, but less school. I think unless people apply themselves and take it upon themselves to learn all they can about their trade, we are asking for a less desirable product with our younger tradesman. I don't know anything about what the unions do.

    I’m looking to get into the ibew in my area (ohio) with my application I have to have a credit in algebra. I didn’t take algebra in school so I could an online course that will give me that credit. The videos I’ve seen of others they don’t mention any of that for them to get in. Did you run into that when you were applying? I know all locals are different so that might be just for my area. Love your videos

    Thank you for your videos ... I am very motivated ... I am an elderly person, and I want to enter the theme of residential electrician ... I liked life. I come from a country in South America and there I study electricity learning, I did Some jobs at that time. But almost 35 years have passed ... Life I take another way, I'm not regretting it, it was wonderful, but I don't want to give myself to the delivery that I can't resume the electricity today. I do not know if there is any government program that sponsored me for a short study (because time no longer gives me to make a university career) .. with what idea could you help me ... thanks to read this. (I live in Orlando Florida)

    Good morning Jess, in Spain, are you studying Vocational Training or an occupation course on electricity? And you could register as an electrician. I had to take an exam and present myself to the general management of industry. In Spain if you are not self-employed there is an agreement and you have to work about 1,800 hours a year and you pay as an Officer 1 of electrician €1,300 x 14 with 2 extra payments and 22 days of vacation.

    Probably the smartest idea there are some programs that help you learn and find a job. But military is definitely the best way to go they actually take care of you while you’re getting educated and the job market opens way more when you’re a veteran
