What Makes you Think This is Worth 2 Million? | Dragons' Den

Ойын-сауық

Founded by three Amsterdam-based friends, Join the Pipe aims to aid the widespread of the international single-use plastic crisis by stocking reusable plant-based water bottles and water filter pipes in popular destinations across Europe. Already a success in The Netherlands, Join the Pipe aims to make its mark in the UK. But is the product original enough to convince The Dragons?
An international sensation, Dragon's Den features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Den from our Dragons, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Not really. The answer is very easy as to what would stop someone from building a different fountain. That answer is lack of interest. None of these dragons are invested in water and reusuable bottle. You know what sells the bottles? The fact that the sales directly impact whether these fountains go into other countries in the world. They ahit on this guy, then they go back to doing nothing about water after having trashed him.

if you go to a park where there's tap water you can fill up your bottle for free. not all public spaces have fountains but if you really wanted to you could fill up your bottle at any public sink. Obviously "someone" has to pay for the water but in terms of public water the people with the bottles don't have to pay for it. So you're kinda right but i think her witty comment isn't that narrow minded, they don't don't give a ton of context because i think they assume its boring or they run out of time.

@@marybermudez5218 true but i think that depends "where" the water is coming from. If you're filling your bottle at work it can be paid by someone else rather then a fountain in a park that might be paid by tax money. But the water is free in a sense that no one can charge you extra for drinking a lot from one fountain, it only records how much water is used overall. the water bill would go up if more water is used then normal but I can't really say i'm an expert in HOW tax bills are cut up but they can't trace the amount of water that "you" used. So its not really "free" but i can see why someone would call it free water since you don't pay for it the moment you take it/it doesn't show up in a normal bill, and in some cases someone else is paying for the water. BUT it is something "Someone" has to pay for.

There are wildly successful water bottle companies springing up every few years. It’s a crowded space but it has the advantage of being a lifestyle product that generally gets replaced every year or so. Starting one of these companies is like buying a lottery ticket, low odds, but a small chance you get rich. It makes sense that the investors on the show wouldn’t be interested since they’re fairly risk averse, but bashing the entire industry is the wrong response.

Same bottles you can buy in Albert Heijn for round 2 euros. In Rotterdam they have the Erasmus Brug etc on them. Amsterdam they have famous buildings from Amsterdam. And they come in Back or White.

It wasn't really a company. This guy just got suckered into being a distributor for a product that he has nothing to do with producing, while also shouldering all the financial burdens. This was a guy that made a reasonable amount of money in sports who wanted to parlay that into a long term future. But since he had no clue what he was doing he got suckered into a hairbrained scheme rather than something actually viable. A lot of people get suckered in by projects like this. They have all the right buzz words and touchy feely good vibes about saving the planet and reducing waste and blah blah blah blah. But in the end they don't actually have a product or a business, only what amounts to a dishonest marketing campaign.

@@Rowgue51 Yeah how dumb is this guy to think this was a good idea, dude was talking about refillable water bottles as if they were a new concept and the resigned water spout is arguably a lot worse than traditional ones bc those you can drink from AND fill up your bottle. What a dumb company.

Will Reese it’s quite a simple product I agree, however you should see them in the Netherlands, especially in Amsterdam. On average I’d see at least 2 people walking around with these bottles and the pipes are quite frequently seen in the hotspots and universities. They did well in Holland and probably got a proof of concept from here to try and expand it over.

@@dafleth8888 it is a good idea. We have a similar system in Canada. I see these water bottle stations at schools, universities, hospitals, gyms, etc. If there wasn't a similar we'll established system in the UK at the time of this episodes filming (I don't know if there was), then this could totally have been a lucrative business.
