WHAT MAKES FENWAY PARK SPECIAL? // THE OVER 100 YEAR HISTORY OF FENWAY PARK & RED SOX DOCUMENTARY

Спорт

In this All Sports History video we'll look back at how Fenway Park was built and how has become one of the most recognizable sports venues in the world.
Here's what this "Fenway Park History" video covers:
For over 100 years, Fenway Park has been one of baseball’s most iconic grounds. With its unique dimensions, and jewel box design built right into the city, it has become one of the landmark cathedrals for the sport. In today’s video we’ll take a look back at what makes this park so special and all of the history and features that have made it become so legendary. Everything from the unique Fenway Park Green Monster to Pesky’s Pole, and even outliving the attempt to tear down and replace the iconic stadium.
Fenway Park is a historic baseball stadium located in Boston, Massachusetts. It opened its doors on April 20, 1912, and is one of the oldest and most iconic ballparks in Major League Baseball. The park was built on a tight budget, with a capacity of only 35,000 seats, but it has since been expanded and undergone renovations several times. Fenway Park has been the home of the Boston Red Sox since it first opened, and it has witnessed some of the most memorable moments in baseball history, including Babe Ruth's early career, Ted Williams' 521 home runs (of which a special Fenway Park red seat was added to mark the spot of his longest), and Carlton Fisk's dramatic home run in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series. We'll also talk about the how a world series game was called off due lack of daylight in the early year's of the stadium, and the first ever Fenway Park night game in the park's history. The stadium has also hosted numerous other events, including football games, soccer matches, and the Fenway Park Winter classic. Today, the stadium is a beloved landmark of Boston and a must-see destination for sports fans around the world.
So what did you think of Fenway Park almost being torn down in the early 2000’s? And do you think there'll ever be a time when they replace Fenway? Let me know in the comments below!

Replacing Fenway Park would be like repainting the White House yellow. Ain't gonna happen. They might come to build a new stadium for the Red Sox, but they ain't demolishing the Fenway any time soon

@@tonyarceneaux286 In some cases yes, like the Hard Rock stadium in Miami. But I think in many cases, the stadiums are so old (like old Yankee stadium built in the 1920s) that it just makes more sense to knock it down and build a new one from scratch. Not that I agree with tearing down Yankee stadium but you get what I mean.

It’d be like the Cubs replacing Wrigley, the Dodgers replacing Dodger Stadium or the Pirates replacing PNC Park. It’d just be a bad idea. There might come a time when the Red Sox might need to replace it, but if they keep up maintenance and repairs, it should be there for a long time to come. You’d just hate to see it go the way of the Old Comiskey park, replaced with something with no special meaning at all. My uncle went to old Comiskey many times between 1970 and 1990, even though it was a 3 and a half hour drive away. He’s been to new Comiskey once, he hated it and decided to never go back.

Wrigley has already met a fate worse than demolition. They put signage up in places that ruined what made it special. Granted, that would be hard to do at Fenway.

Fenway is beautiful. Seeing that green grass and the Green Monster for the first time, as a kid, was mesmerizing! The history you feel then and now, every time you enter the stadium, is awe inspiring and fascinating! The problem is, for regular attendees, that comfort isn’t good. The seats are small and many views are obstructed. Myself, brothers, and friends are all big guys and are literally squished against each other with no wiggle room whatsoever and no place for drinks, food, or anything else. I’ve been to several other arenas and stadiums and really enjoy the comforts of modern venues so much more. When news first hit about a possible new stadium, I was excited! I wanted a new Fenway with the exact same field features and dimensions but all the wonderful comforts new venues bring to the experience. I still feel the same way to this day however I do understand it will probably never happen and I definitely understand why with all the allure, beauty, & history Fenway has and the visitors it still attracts.

I hate the Red Sox as I'm a Yankee fan, but I can't deny that I'd hate to see a brand new stadium built in its place. I was torn when the Yankees announced they were tearing down Yankee Stadium and building a new one. I literally grew up in old Yankee Stadium and it was beyond historical. But a new stadium WAS needed. So many great childhood memories there. And Fenway has that same hallowed ground status behind it.

The park as opened in 1912 doesn't really look anything like the park today. The outfield in particular was changed due to bleacher fires in 1926 and an overall blaze during renovations in 1934. The green monster as we know it today was not installed until those renovations were final on opening day 1934
