Lol Matti whats the odds, a serial killer of all things. Great video again Matti, think I've watched close to all your videos at this stage, your an excellent educator, much appreciated.
Is it me or the 85mm looked more cinematic in all 3 comparisons? 🤔

Eh I think not really... We always think "more bokeh = more cinematic" but when you look at most movies and series usually the background is not as blurry as we want it to be. Take a look at the miniseries on youtube from a channel called "Paralight WorX", it looks really cinematic and they record everything using a gh5 and olympus 25mm f1.2. If the background was much blurry it probably wouldn't look so cinematic

yeh, just you
I can see how the 85mm could be really useful for a dream sequence. Could convey that they are running but not moving, like how we feel while running away from a Finnish serial killer....
Loved this content! Still experimenting and finding what looks I prefer. Super helpful. Thanks for this Matti
Thank you for sharing your valuable expertise on cinematography. Its a phenomenal breakdown of the advantages of which for what
I can say this is the best focal length guide in videography out there. You helped me a lot choosing my next lens.
Love the 80’s music!😜 this is a great video.
Thanks Matti for this. I swear its like you always read my mind on what i need. I just bought my first gimbal yesterday. So thank you very much
Wow. Loved this comparison. Such good work ! Thanks Matti
OMG I thought that serial killer thing was an April fools joke and then I looked it up!!!
Great Video Matti! The depth of field comparison is great. Such a huge difference!
This was a really great comparison. Thanks Matti!
Great comparison vid, Matti. You just gotta love the compression/cinematic epicness that the 85mm makes you feel!
Very nice narration, Matti, Thanks.
I really appreciate you showing how the lenses look when using them vs just showing us the lenses and talking about them
What a great video, very comprenhensive. Thank you very much, Matti!
Just what I was looking 4. Looking at both and you answered my question
This was so cool!! Thank you Matti! I just started using an actual camera (I chose the gh5) vs iPhone and moment lens and am devouring videos like this. So helpful! Good luck with your wiki page. Haha
Very informative worth watching thank you.
Very interesting video! Thanks for showing the side by side.
I was just thinking about this topic today! perfect video for me to watch!
Really really informative thanks Matt!
Really helpful, thanks Matti!
Very cool Matti! Loved seeing the comparisons
Dude. Great stuff. The 85 doesn’t have a lot of movement but man it looks so pretty. Thanks for all the videos. You’re inspiring.
Cool little break down, thanks
Love your videos Matti
Hey Matti - thanks for putting this together. Love the 85 mm results with the gimbal. Due to the compression - I notice that the world becomes a much larger element in the story (relative to the subject). Contrast with the 24 mm, where the subject towers over the background. Thanks!
wow men, you allways do the videos I need in the moment I need. Thank you very much!
Loved this video. One of the more helpful for me dude. Thanks matti.
Thank you Matti ❤️
Well you are killing it when it comes to youtube .
Great Video Matti! I got a 85mm on order for my sony a7iii and I'm excited in trying it, played with my 28mm and it was fun learning!
Thanks for this video, this will really help me.
This just helped me out so much…. Thank you 😊
Thank you bro I was looking for this kinds of review.
Cool video with great info. This is really helpful information. Thanks Matti
Perfect explanation. Thanks a lot. After watching a few video's finally subscribed.
Thank you for this video! Really helpful ✌️
Superb.. Excellent comparison. You nailed it brother.
seems like the camera tells a different story or sets a different tone the way it isolates the subject with the 85 vs the 24. interesting
very helpful video. thank you
Excellent video.. thanks.
Yes have been waiting for something like this for a long time, great information man, thanks so much, also thanks for making me spend more money now hahaha!!!!
Wow! I was just debating this weekend on picking up the 85mm. Thanks for the video Matti!
I have to say that since I started to use longer lenses I've been totally addicted to that look!
One of your better videos in terms of nugget of information that sticks
This was cool! Great upload
im so tuned in thanks for the info. that google search was scary
Thank you Matti
Thanks for the comparison! Could you also go over focusing while on a gimbal because... manual focus... and gimbal...
Very Helpful Matti!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very helpfull video mattih
4:25 this is super informational, very cool to see demonstrated
Thanks for the video,, helps a lot
thanks matti! I dreamed being a serial killer before but I learned something else better today with this, your new video.
That feeling when you're "killing it" so much on KZread that Google thinks you are a serial killer! 😄 Videographer-level: 10 of 10.
Recently started using gimbal. Lots to learn about it. Good video!
loving the insight
I found video the most useful video you have produced Matti
Wow! Awesome comparison, thank You :)
Matti i always use this 2 focal-length for make movies so i can show both angles in motion with same direction so viewers also can understand things which u teach in previous video if u go left so 2nd shot of motion is also wamted to be left so u can use this 2 lense on gimble for same movement same distance so u can show to world details and main subject woth background in same motion ...thanx man❤❤❤❤
My take is always mix them up but wide is almost always better for leading shots. However the 85mm follow shot can be used in very dramatic ways when the background element (the scene the subject is looking at) is important in some way or you want it to have an emotional connection with the subject. This is in part because the longer focal lengths bring the background and foreground elements closer together in the shot.
Duude that's exactly what I was thinkg of for the last 10 minutes....of course not knowing the difference (cause I only have one lens and I am still putting all my savings for that ronin-s lol)....then I open youtube, and this video pops up....so much great information here dude...love your work man...now I have to figure out how to get my hands on the ronin-s...and probably the new sony 135mm f1.8 🤯
Great video man! Really helpful
Great video! Thanks
Thanks Matti
Such an eye opener👌
Great video bro thanks a lot
great vlog as usual Matti ,
Thanks Matti!
Thanks you are very clear
Matti...one of your most useful videos buddy! This here is a mini cinematography course!
hey matti you're videos are amaZing man!, please make a video about focus the videos! what should use while shooting BROLLs?
Thanks nice information
This is wht i was searching. Thank you
Needed this as I just got my 24 to complement my 85 lol good to see which shots work best for each FL 🙏🏾
More content like this Matti! :-)
love your Videos
That intro killed me Matti, haha no pun intended.
Great Video man
Really useful video thanks! Was looking to get a bigger gimbal for the sigma 18-35 and M50 combo but thinking of getting a smaller prime like a 22mm efm and using that and the 50mm as primes on the gimbal.
Love this comparison. Always used a wide on my Ronin S because it’s so easy to work with. Def going to pick up a 24mm prime because I just got my EOS R and so pumped to use it!
I usually use wider lenses like 24mm or 16mm when my subject is not much close to my camera cause I don't like the wide lens distortion on a subject face and also it depends on how much movement I want, but usually, I prefer 70mm or 85mm for portraits and also when i want to make background or foreground really out of focus, thanks man for your great content
Nice episode! Maybe you can do one on directing (unexperienced) people you are filming. tips and tricks ?
Hi,thanks for the really interesting comparison. I like both lenses a lot although I would choose a 50 mm lens instead of a 85 mm.
The zoom lens gives the shot a more film look which I personally love
Nice topic and great tips 👍
Been waiting for one of these only just bought a came tv gimbal but un sure which lense to use
First of all Thank you for the awesome helpful information in all your videos I watch them regularly- and This 85mm comparison- you convinced me to buy this lens. It’s beautiful Thanks.
It's look amazing ! Thank for the review 😊 can you make a video about how to manage the focus on a gimbal ? Autofocus ,manual or using some other extra gear, what are your strategy ?😁
Very interesting!!
Thanks Matti, great video. I use a 35 mm prime and now want to get an 85!
Thanks for this one Matti :) ✊🙌 ... can you talk about shooting & settings for color grading w EOSR & ninjaV? Would be awesome!! 💛🖤💛🖤 Thank you.
Good info to me ,thx bro.
Love these lenses. I’ve been shooting a lot more with my 16-35mm at 24mm!
Man, you ROCK! I love your videos
