I love the answers Ben and Mark gave on the question "Social Media Profiles" some of us are introverted producers, we love music, we love producing music but we don't love being out there posting stuff on Instagram & more. It is amazing how Mark stays on his first thought which is that music comes first... most of us producers start making music because we love music and we wish to live making music, some others are focused and becoming rich and famous (which I don't say it is a bad thing) but, remember that music is an art, if you want to make a business out of it, it is ok, but some of us we just love it as an art.

Love Mark's comments, the music is what it should be all about.

Also familiarize your self with vision of the label, or brand before submitting. I used to work for an Art gallery in Santa Fe quite prestigious area of the city and I would get loads of submissions of artists who wanted to show their work in the gallery painters, ceramic artists, you name it, but the gallery was a video installation space that was very contemporary, on an international level but had no intention of even selling any of the art it was collaborative and the intent was to make a statement. So doing the footwork and diving a little deeper to make a connection with that brand or movement is really important, for me if I’m playing your music it’s because you inspire me and it fits the vibe at the moment or I’m trying to make a statement.

Just self release. Every label screws you in one form or another other.

The real question should be "what is the effing point in signing to a label these days?" Its a question that seems to have no legitimate answer in the 2020s.

the point of working with labels is they come with an audience you don't have, you then pull some of your audience to you by collaborating with the label. Label's have connections you won't have and other labels look at those labels to see who they are releasing and you can step the ladder of labels, then then you have a big enough audience you can launch your own audience. Labels have networks across Spotify, Soundcloud and a community of people who can listen to your music.

@@aikighost yep it depends on the label, i know with our 4 labels its about build up the artists over releases and work with artists over many releases to build a following

if you are too lazy to know the bussines side, they do everything for you.. from distribution to placement to publishing and if you're lucky enough, they bring few connections to make the tracks work. Obviusly charging a % for doing the job. But if you're smart enough and start reading how to music works, you can do it 100% yourself, or at least, you can have your own "imprimt" and 2 or 3 people directed by you and it's easy to know if they are doing the job if you know the job.

Labels are looking for people with large social media followings... numbers are everything these days. if you dont have the numbers or dont know anybody at the label personally, just forget it. it's luck at that point.

Yes, and if you have a large social media following you don't actually need the label, at all. At that point if you sign to a label you're living in the old paradigm that no longer makes any sense.

Toolroom is a very respected label for house and tech house, tribal house, Latin house, minimal house and similar house derivatives. It also includes great artists, but I think it is not right for an artist who produces original things to be a signed artist in Toolroom. Because toolroom releases and supports home genre songs consisting of sound packages sold through splice, this kills creativity. I am reviewing the 2019 toolroom catalog and it was great between 2019 and 2022, like the champions league, now I can't see a truly original recording, the artist pool does not excite me as much as it used to, it doesn't excite me as much as it used to. There are a lot of problems. I can say that they are really outdated when it comes to houses. Now the world and music are changing. I can't tolerate house music below 130 bpm. I think they should release house records and be a little more underground.
