RYLAN CLARK: BLOWING UP MY PERFECT LIFE

Ойын-сауық

Rylan Clark joins Jamie for this week’s episode to discuss his obsession with fame, a breakdown that left him unable to make a cup of tea, and THAT scene on X Factor with Nicole Scherzinger.
Rylan hit our screens in 2012 on TV talent show, X Factor and quickly became one of the most talked about contestants. Fast forward 12 years and he’s gone from TV joke to national treasure. But all the success came at a cost, when Rylan suffered a breakdown in 2021 and had to step away from the limelight.
Opening up about why he triggered that change, and the difference between his onscreen presence, Rylan, and his true self, Ross, this conversation will both make you laugh and cry.

This is going to sound weird but I’m in a Facebook group because of the breed of dog I’ve got and people got chatting about “famous people they met” and one lady said she was Rylan’s next door neighbour (didn’t give any details re where she lived) she said he was the NICEST person she’d ever met, that he was genuinely lovely not that fake “I’m being nice cos I have to” nice. After seeing this interview I can well believe her!

Rylan is the best thing to come out of reality tv. A really insightful interview. Hes so authenticly open and vulnerable 100% of the time.

What an incredible interview. I've always been a Rylan fan, but he shines the most here. And love that Jamie guides the conversation so effortlessly and doesn't interrupt him and lets him speak, which is key to being a successful interviewer. Rylan is such a gloriously honest, quick witted and intelligent man and deserves the moon on a stick ✨🌟💫

I experienced the exact same thing as Rylan describes with the sudden stop and not being able to make a cup of tea. It’s called being semi-catatonic. Mine was the result of untreated severe depression that I had been attempting to ignore while overworking myself. I had to do a similar approach to building up my capacity for life again, at first I couldn’t speak or make myself a glass of water but over time I managed to make cups of tea again in the way Rylan describes. I’m very sorry to hear Rylan went through that and I’m glad to see he’s in a much better place now. Thanks for talking about your experiences, it makes myself and many others feel less alone.

Very self depreciating, smart, articulate and kind, you seem genuinley delighted to have your guests on and you’re my absolute favourite interviewer and. I hope you keep going from strength to strength… that interview was a blast! Love your channnel ❤

Sweetheart… I think it’s probably your body saying no. You can only keep calm and carry on for so long. If you’ve had a breakdown, lost speech and vision and it was instantaneous (from someone who has been there and still not managed to do anything pretty much eight YEARS later after doing a LOT and having been through a lot) I think your nervous system just shut down and forced you to reflect xx Great interview and Jamie - you got the skillset and genuine nature of a presenter and podcaster down my friend!! ❤❤

I was already fond of Rylan (and what I've seen of Ross), but was ambiguous on Jamie ("seemed like a nice bloke on strictly, I wonder if he's any good at interviewing?".). Well that's a yes, then. Two really lovely guys being warm, engaging, open, having a flowing and insighful discussion (and swearing like troopers). I seem to have subscribed....
