I studied art, art history, and learned to draw from a very young age (ten). All self-taught. I simply fell in love with that world and would immerse myself in it whenever I could. That and anatomy. When the decision came to what I wanted to do in life, I choose to go into finance. Oddly. While I never let go of my creative side, I was taught that art would be very hard to pay the bills. I have no regrets. I have had a very successful career and amassed a wealth of business knowledge. Several years ago, I began to draw again. Deeply getting into it. I began to see the world again like I did when I was ten. Full of wonder. My focus turned to graphic design. As then, I immersed myself in all things design by studying the masters: Paul Rand, Chris Do, Paula Scher. I read everything I could. And then I found Satori Graphics, Yes, I am a designer, Aaron Drapelin. and more. So, at the age of 51, I started my own Brand Strategy + Design business. I still hold my day job until it becomes self-sustainable but eventually I will turn full time. I have already worked with clients and the word of mouth is beginning to grow. I am sought out by many who have heard of me. I certainly have more work to do but it's exciting. Also, thanks to my business career, I am a better designer for it. When I do Brand strategy, I am in tune with my clients' needs. So what kind of designer am I? One that will never stop learning.

I would like to see more of these sort of videos. Love it!
Being 33 and starting my freelancing journey about graphic design as I believe i have found that this my passion and do other things i love. I've been a CSR, virtual assistant and so on but nothing compares to doing what you love. I am pushing my portfolio. Always exposing myself with people like you to empower myself with knowledge and skills. It is a competitive industry but I keep on believing that I will make it. Thanks to content creators like you.
This video addressed so many things for me. It's like you became my therapist for a brief 17.24 minutes. I had a similar experience with your sister, only I ended up changing fields 3 times for a variety of reasons. It's hard to be honest with oneself when there are so many external forces trying to shape us into something else. Even though I'm an innately creative type, it took a lot of exploration, mistakes, and in the end, luck, for me to get into graphic design as a day job. I appreciate that you took the time to make this.

I'm happy that is resonated with you. I think many of us take a while to find the path that we are best suited for. Often life is about the journey rather than getting to the final destination.
It’s always good to strip things back to basics, look at facts and make adjustments. It also makes you realise simple things that can make a huge difference. I like creating skate/surf style art, but I don’t do enough of that. Maybe I should and maybe I should target that area when it comes to work. That’s what I discovered from watching this vid. Cheers Satori!

If that is your passion and a skillset then go for it. Make sure to study the market first and see where you can come in and make a profit. I used to skate from around 2001 until 2008. I would love to get back into it
You put all my thinking in video, though more thoughtful and informative. I'm starting my design business and trying to get it perfect, but you realize that time is ticking away while you poking around in your website design. So I take your advice to better see my process objectively and who I really am as a designer. Thanks :) I frequently follow your videos for inspiration 👌

As a photographer first and a graphic designer second myself there is nothing called "the perfect shot or design". we only gain experiences throughout the years and try to improve our work for the next project and learn from our past mistakes. it's just progress like you've said in the video. and at the end of the day, we shouldn't feel bad about our previous works cuz that only leads to a negative path. also when you are feeling a bit down just take a break and change your location preferably somewhere in nature with fresh air far from crowded places.

Emotional reaction or harshness can also be linked to perfectionist traits. While it is okay to have high standards, striving for perfection instead of completion can really demotivate you and worsen how you think.

I'm the kind that loves to spread awareness and construction. Therefore I enjoy doing awareness and isometric design. I realised that I am an empath and I know how to design something that would move people. When I play The Sims, I know I can build buildings with presets. With the isometric design knowledge I've learnt, I can be more flexible and build buildings of my own creativity, creating a new world with just isometric. It just feels happy to see a world I've just created. I know my weaknesses and I always try to find a way to improve them with tons of practice and guidance.
